100k for that and it hasn't been Charging tested in Europe. Embrassing.
Yeah I got agree, I love the creativity HiPhi bring but for the prices they are selling at they need to significantly raise their game
1:45 Torx screws are way better then Phillips screws because you can apply much more torque without damaging it
"than" not "then". Are you a german?
But it's supposed to be changed by user... And most people don't have these Torx drivers. Plus the battery doesn't recharge.. Not via the micro-USB or via scavenging while the car charges.
@@londonwestman1Torx are the main standard as Phillips once where. If you don't have torx it's time to update your tools.
Personally I have used torx as the preferred choice for the last 15 years
Philips worse then allen worse then torx. I suppose we should all switch to torx or torx with hexagonal head (in case of a lot of dirt, like on bottom of cars).
Classic. They spend tons of money on jingle and whistles (read "led bars) instead of focusing on making everything essential works
My thought exactly. It’s like a car made by Ali express
Torx is pretty common no?
Lol, yeah, I chuckled a bit to myself when he hyped up the moment showing the super special safety screws. What is it? Pentagonal? Some weird safety pin driver?
...oh, a Torx. Guess Björn isn't much of a mechanic, lol.
Yes it is ;-)
No. This battery isn't going to last more than a month or two, I guess. How many tools do you need to use that often on an ICE car.. Or a Tesla?
What a load of hassle that car is. Imagine this car owned by a newbie driver, horrendous. If Bjorn the expert can’t get it to work there is no hope for anyone else. Back to the drawing board I think. Thanks Bjorn, you have the patience of a saint. 👍👍👍😇
he already used for this when tesla is also immature back then
I don't think the HiPhi range of cars are ready for the Europe or the rest of the world. They need to ditch the stupid charging ports and go to CCS2.
The Dongle adapter contains a SoC computer to do the communications translation between the Chinese onboard charge and the CCS superchargers.
The same company that makes the converter do one that converts CHAdeMO to CCS2 (probably worth looking at in a separate video).
Chademo only 50 kw, so it not have sence in real world, i use USA tesla with chademo adapter. its too uncomfortable in the end
@hartoz GB/T is the main standard for China and is also accepted in Russia. However, it's really stupid to just dump a car with the Chinese standard on the European market and just think they'll adopt the GB/T standard. Maybe 3 standard fastcharge companies like Fastned will make the switch from Chademo to GB/T, but only when there's demand and an informed customer base.
The Chinese EV marked are far bigger than in Europe. The Chinese plug is the most normal plug for fast charging, so they might consider the CCS2 plug stupid?
@@travelguy78 CCS is the standard in Europe and that is what they should be fitting if they want to sell cars here.
@cbcdesign001 Agree. Doesn't change the factor that the Chinese plug is more common worldwide. 60 percent of the worldwide marked for EVs are in china. CCS are tiny in comparison
Tritium HQ in Brisbane Australia gets down to around +10C overnight in winter, so there's some truth to the "Australia doesn't get winter" line.
I love the daring car design. But the charging bug just render this car unsellable in Europe unless they invest properly in CCS2.
Bjorn this test has to be for the SUN😂
Oh the agony!
The screw-system you are complaining about is called Torx, and it is of course a standard format. It is actually the best when it comes to automation, they are best in transferring torque.
Good luck to HiPhi to selling cars without CCS port 😁
For the price of this car you can get the new Porshe mecan full electric but thanks to show us this beast that should of never gone further than a computer screen .
lol - The bus dancing scene is hilarious! Thanks for all your videos.
that is one hell of a charging adapter 😂
They really shouldn't have released something this unfinished.
This is how alpha version of car looks like 😂
I wish engineers involved would watch these videos 😂. Btw there was "continue charging" option on the screen when it claimed end of charging. Though 99.99% sure it would not have made any difference
Bjørn. Im 99% sure you have tried it but. When this bugged charging happens. Charge port light is green but inside the car its saying charging completed. What happens if you press Continue Carging on the screen?
will never get over the fact that they replaced perfectly adapted door handles with stupid buttons, even soft touch ones.
That I don´t mind. But I don´t want motorized doors. Just soft-close is perfect for me.
@@gantenbeinable that comes along with the buttons
Well, hopefully they will get the charging issues sorted before the first delivery. Not good though is it? I originally thought that perhaps you need to press the start button on the adaptor before you plug the charger in. Makes sense to me. How much was this vehicle again?
Great test
With the roof opening as well would that not just remove all the heat in the cabin in the cold weather?
Okay, so "life of Phi" is not so high then...but another good, informative video from Bjorn!
It’s an adapter to charge the car, and you need to charge it seperately ? Couldn’t it charge itself when charging the car ?
Someone asked how hard can it possibly be to make a car that's convenient and simple to charge, and HiPhi said, "Hold my beer."
Imagine if they'd just implemented a CCS2 charging port before releasing their cars in Europe. Instead they're putting their potential customers here off before they've even gotten started.
No navigation? Surprising!
100k horrible headache....
Hey, remember coldgating is needed in europe to satsfy the IEC 62196 standard of not having an inlet temp above 50°C of ambient temp/temp at start of charge.
Coldgating means charging slow because of low temperature in the battery. There is no requirement to charge slow.
Even if there is some technological or regulatory restriction on how hot the inlet temperature of the battery heater can be, the battery can always get warm enough if it is heated for sufficiently long time. So if the car's software is programmed to heat up the battery for a sufficiently long time before the planned charging session, there would be no coldgating even if there are limitations you have mentioned.
@@pbasista I don't think you understood? This is not about the battery but the charge port. It is not allowed for the temperature of the charge port to rise 50K above ambient. Unless the port and cord are liquid cooled, in cold temps the inlet gets hot quickly when charging and the current has to be reduced to not allow the inlet to get hotter than 50C above ambient.
@@Wigwamwish Oh, I see, ok. I misunderstood your point, yes, I am sorry for that.
If there is a limitation on the charge port temperature, then obviously there might be issues in winter. But at the same time, the cables get natural cooling in winter from the cold weather. So it is unclear to me whether this is an issue in practice and to what extent.
@@Wigwamwish50c above ambient is irrelevant to it being cold out. It won't heat up the plug faster because it's cold.
@@pbasista if you're charging at say 200kW or 300kW, things get hot pretty fast at the contacts. Maybe 5-6 mins is all it takes to reach the 50C delta
the usb plug it is for charging the adaptor. It is needed if it haven't been used for some time.
I thought it might charge from the charge port during charging. But your explanation makes sense.
No, it's not. It's for communication only.
The latest version of this adapter comes with a Type-C port which you can also use for charging
They have to change to ccs if they wanna sell cars in Norway.
For the lights do you have to hold it down for a second or 2 for it to turn interior light on and off?
Yes, this is a typical Chinese switch function on microwave ovens, desktop lights, etc.. The switch is waiting for the electricity from your finger to activate it and when the charge disappears it will change to the opposite state.
Hi Bjørn, great video, good balance between being entertaining and informative, as always, thank you!
Why the Chinese would expect us to buy such a fancy expensive car and then cope with such a shitty charging experience is beyond me. Just retrofit CCS2 already, for that hefty premium price that must be doable!
Concerning this ridiculous adapter, could you perhaps give us a look on that battery inside? You state it was an 18650 cell format, but that would imply it should be a lithium rechargable and not be user replacable (hence the USB-port and Torx screws). Would be very interesting to see what else it could be!
So the Tritium chargers were the only ones which work on the HiPhi.
Maybe they can tell us why.
14:55 you see a "Continue Charging" button. Why not try to push it :)
So the people who lent you the Press car - what have they to say on the subject?
Because as it stands, this car isn't ready for market unless there's some knack to using the adaptor. And if there is a way of making the adaptor work they need to show you. They need to come along with you to the chargers and show you how it's meant to work.. Or if it doesn't work for them either, it would be interesting to see what they'd say for themselves.
If they aren't prepared to come on camera, then I guess that should be a wrap on these models that have only the adaptor for DC charging.
Relying on adapters to work for you to be able to charge outside your home seems idiotic. Sure, I can see the CHAdeMO version of this adapter as possibly making those old Leafs easier to live with for a few more years, but to bring a new brand to the market and not support the market specific standard by fitting the cars with the proper charging port is just short-sighted
Nice car but the software and charging interface seem more like a prototype.
3:15 That's a whole procedure
In 4:11 it is clearly visible that the CCS is not plugged in fully. There is 2mm gap and the adapter “tooth” is not in the hole of the plug. With delta charger I believe it is the same issue. Even without adapters CCS tends to bug if there is no sufficient contact. Now the question is if Bjorn fucked up or the plugs cannot be fitted properly into this adapter but I doubt it is Bjorn’s fault.
Not possible to push it further in.
@@bjornnyland shieeet, poor plastic mold, I guess… thanks for the info!
The screw driver is using a star bit lol
No navigation ?? Really ?
Is this thing actually out for sale or is it just a pre release model? Seems unfinished.
Headlights have left thé chat
Strange that Norway allows sales of cars with charge ports not compatible with the country standard. Just implement EU policy about CCS2.
So in the end Björn, do you think bananabox test would make up for this very lousy charging experience, apart from the horrible lunapark lighting and sound.
Those cars seem to lag worse then windows 95 😵💫
how dare u compare w95 to this christmas ricebox
what a looser carmaker... it looks worst than vin fast.
It's called Torx. It is standard
The "Gay cable" got me good 🤣
I don't know how much it would cost to convert the car to ccs but it can't be more than 5% of the cars price, got to be well the investment for the European division of HiPhi to put into these cars
7:06 Maybe you should press and hold a bit longer. Than it may work better.
Nope
@@bjornnyland The software has to add some delay to the reaction time. Because of glitches should not do any action. If you press too short no action will be taken.
I bud var over 1 mill kroner det er minimum må funker enkelt lade bil.
So many potential Memes and jocks in this video.
Don know how they can expect people to spend this much money on a car and then have to mess with an adaptor.
And I thought charging a ID3 was a bit cumbersome. 😂
Hey Bjørn. Another great video again. I always seem to find these videos quite helpful since I'm considering to buy an a Electric car.
But I do have two questions of the car and tests that you do.
1. Is there is there no offical adapter for the other plug not the 'Type 2' plug but the other one. I seemed of forgot the name of it because I've never heard of it that plug type.
2. Also will there be a Geilo or Sunday drives for the HiPhi Z or X?
Thanks Bjørn.
1. It’s called GB/T. And what I can tell there is no “official”. This adapter is more like a temporary solution. Also the Typ 2 female connector is a bad decision.
This brand like others will disappear within a year. Good luck in finding spare parts for this junk.
❤❤❤
Torx is the name of that screw, you see them used in certain types of consumer electronics, computer components for example.
And in some countries we call it jewish star. :)
Also used a lot here to hang stuff up and when you make a wood terrasse the screws are torx aswell
And in cars in general. Torx is very common in European automotive components.
Torx screw.
i think they don't want to sell any car in europe 😂 such a stupid sistem to charge it. It needs to get easier for every car, not more difficult 😅
AliExpress tech for the win!
7:30 Press longer time.
Nice car !!!!,,but very expensive 50 k yes i pay more Noo!!!!
Can't wait to see people entering/leaving the back-seats during heavy rain. What a dumb idea to design the doors this way.
It is a pleasure that you invest so much time in this charging roulette and watching it. But the car is a pile of crap. It is the worst advertising of this brand. Nobody will remember when all this stuff is fixed, they only will see this first try videos.
Torx screws are a common and standard screw head. Nothing special about it.
No ccs, no sale IMO
i don't see how this would be any success in Europe
Interior 💡👈 ni good. 🖕 The middle for the switch win
Luckily TORX!! the chinese are learning from legacy automakers!
Instead of the dumb adapter thing they should just make the car with ccs port.. much easier and more convenient
What can possibly go wrong... 💩💩💩
Those “evil” screws are torx, the only sane screw head in my opinion.
Could be the adapter software bug
It takes decades to build up a reputation for a new car brand but just single major flaws to destroy the image. HiPhi is destroying its reputation in Europe right from the start with this kind of charging experience ... and especially for a premium brand reputation is even more important. As fancy as the car is otherwise, HiPhi is a no-go for now.
Somehow it reminds me of Landwind trying to enter Europe 20 years ago. It became a disaster due to horrible crash test results.
Any other EV would be a better buy, especially in this price range
The manufacturer of HiPhi is very close to bankruptcy, so there is no point in testing HiPhi cars.
Information about manufacturer starting to NOT pay its employees has been circling for some time already...
Game over. RIP Tesla 😂
Lightshows and gimmicks galore, but you can't charge it. Brilliant product strategy.
ABC: Always Buggy Chinese
Whoever decided to import these things are the problem
What happens with the buyback if they go bankrupt in 2 years? No navigation and css, sounds like you straight purchase it from ali express 😆
You told all of this already in the hiphi z video 🤔
Different model,same problem
The problem might lie in the adapter though.
@hummerltheOh yep, probably an easy fix.
Yeah, nope. No CCS charging port, not relevant for EU 🙅♀️
NO NAVIGATION ?!?!?! I can't stop laughing. Also an EV you can't charge on the road. So this is essentially worse than the 1st gen LEAF.
Ampera-e also doesn't have navigation.
who tought GBT would be a good Name for this? LGBT friendly or what? And then u put a freaking Battery in an Adapter that is going to be powered by the grid? WTF
That is Torx 1:45 which is pretty common in the car industry. U should know that by now bjorn.
If hiphi just saved a few dollars on all these silly lights. They could have invested into CCS2 connection for the EU market.
Who ever buys this car needs to be rich. This car will loose value fast.
I hope nobody buys that brand.
Lol why so much hate 😂😂😂😂
@@sujeeshthomas Because it is lazy to throw a 100k€ car on the market with a half assed charging solution and no navigation system. If you want to be premium like they claim, everything needs to be premium.
@@OberstStein agreed ur right... makes sense
Remember @@OberstStein that it also haven't thermometer - kind of important to know when it gets closer to freezing point of else black ice will be such a surprise. Joke of a car 😂😂
No one in their right mind should spend their hard earned money on this piece of crap. Just get a Tesla
That’s terrible, “all fur and no knickers”
Oh look, an EV that's not a Tesla having charging issues, what a surprise 💀
It's a no from me. Straightaway - far too much for the wife to master - especially that charging rubbish
2:50 he calls it a “gay cable” … 😬
Without CCS this car and brand is useless in Europe.
Seems like cool car and all, but actually useless when you cant navigate, you cant charge (39KWh on Ionity only). Those 5 people in norway buing this car LOL
*kW
@@bjornnyland kWh, my bad 😎
I think very few of these cars will be sold and the company will be gone in less than 5 years.
Let hiphi cook
Buy 2 New Model 3’s instead and thank me later,at this price this car is embarrassing.
Latest news, HiPhi lost the investment from Saudi, they’re fucked 😊
Shi**iest car I have ever seen. Shame on the company.
what a useless way of charging. manufacturer made it even worse than it already can be, great!
and what does the adapter even do other than blink? takes minutes for a handshake with... what... a server in china?
a car for adhd dopamine seekers
Adapter is huge and clumsy. Trying to imagine how a woman can handle this process. 👎
