Cinque Terre Day Trip

- We heard it could be done, but we weren't quite sure--Cinque Terre in a day? We did it, but would we do it again?
For sure. We'd just do things a little differently. Cinque Terre is absolutely beautiful and has been a bucket list destination for the longest time. We started early and went hard by doing the hike from Monterosso to Vernazza. The views (and accordion playing) were amazing, but it was so, so warm. Things we'd do differently? Bring more water, pack a swimsuit, consider an afternoon/evening trip, and stay a night or two in one of the beautiful villages. Still, we feel so, so lucky that we got to see the beautiful beaches of Monterosso, eat focaccia in Vernazza, admire the steps up to Corniglia, climb the rocks in Manarola, and watch locals jump into the water at Riomaggiore. What an awesome day.
One tip we learned: buy your Cinque Terre train or trekking card online and skip the lines at the train station! You can buy here: www.parconazionale5terre.it/Ec...

5 terre... walking in the la VIA DELL'AMORE eating focaccia... omg..love it!!!!
OMG !!! THOSE FOCACCIAS !!! UMMMM I can eat 'em like twenty pieces !!! LOLLOLLOL. 😋👍👍💜🥁🐉🎵🎤🎶💕💞
:) it was perfect, and very sweaty day
I remember driving through the Genoa area ( not far away from Cinque Terra) and it seemed like we were underground more than seeing the sky!
You go to Camogli for breakfast (take the very first train) from there you take a boat to San Fruttuoso for a cultural tour, a bath, a meal and aferwards you take the fabulus 4 hours hiking path (without turists) till Portofino then take the bus (othewise by foot) if tired to Santa Margherita and stay there for the night in a hotel or take the last train back to genova. Best itinerary you can pursue.
This definitely sounds better and makes much more sense - hiking in the late afternoon seems much more enjoyable
Loved seeing Lisa's joy at seeing the beautiful sights and Josh's Princess Bride reference. :)
YES!! I’m so happy that someone got it!
I'm from Genova, so I can tell you a little about the Cinque Terre. Until the end of the 90s, they were places totally out of mass tourism. Villages inhabited mostly by fishermen and farmers who lived a quiet life, producing wine, fishing, making oil to sell it to some visitors...maybe there would be some little restaurants. These were quite wild places and practically frequented only by Genoese and locals. I remember a friend of mine at the bar who spoke to my grandfather about Monterosso, we didn't even know where it was. Then they made it the park of the Cinque Terre and from that moment on, mass tourism ...You should see Nervi, Santa Margherita and Portofino too, beautiful places of Genova's riviera.
Man, quite a change just in the past 20-30 years! How do you feel about it now versus back then?
@@LisaAndJosh I've never really been used to going to those places. There are several beautiful places in Liguria both in the east and west riviera, such as: Spotorno, Noli, Albenga ... those are located beyond Savona.
perfettamente d'accordo
Im gonna have to take the train. Two hour hike with little to no shade. You guys are awesome. The food looks great!!!
I feel like Italian stay fit from all they walking and danish breakfast are equalized. Bon Appétit
for sure - so much walking everywhere. now that we're in thailand, we almost never walk anywhere
I'm Italian (Roma), and I love your video. You guys are so nice.
Beautiful! I went there back in 2008.
I just found your channel and watching all these videos.
Oh man. I wish I knew you guys were going. We were just there a week ago! We stayed in Vernazza. You literally went by our AirBnB door as you walked into the Vernazza square. The walk from Vernazza to Corniglia is by far the best. Unfortunately, you missed Corniglia altogether, which was by far our favorite town. The Foccia there was so much better too! I think I would tell anyone to stay in Vernazza or Corniglia. The crowds are amazingly bad too! It wasn’t so bad for us, but we also started walking at sun up every day.
Loved this, we did the train between each of the "Terres" which allowed us still to get LOTS of walking in, but appreciate all of the different characters of each village. I was considering going back and doing the hikes, but looking at this video, maybe not! Also, we came in for the day from Pisa so it was easy for us.
Focaccia after a challenging and beautiful hike is the dream! Loved seeing the trails and your travels through the city! It’s so helpful as we plan our next trip! Looking forward to catching up on all these videos from your time in Italy🇮🇹🤩
thanks for watching!! that focaccia was so, so good! have a fun, safe trip!
You guys deserve more subscribers! I enjoyed watching the trip
You're too kind :) thank you very much!
We did the same in a day, mid July! That hike to Vernazza was a killer!
For sure - way too much to start the day off with, in the heat! :)
So exciting to watch this guys! I am planning to there next month and I cannot wait! I live in Tuscany so I'm less than 3 hours away from 5 Terre! Wonderful area in Italy, you you managed to capture stunning views and moments! I like your personalities as well! Brilliant! Kisses from Florence! 😍👍😯
Awww, thank you so much! :) And only 3 hours away! That's amazing
You explained very well tourism and trasport communication, congrats from Genova born guy
And thank so much for sharing my lovely Liguria ❤️
Thank you very much for sharing it with us! :)
Thank you so much for the informative video and being natural, honest and real . I decided not to visit here, after watching all these hiking and walks...3 days visit to Florance area, this place didn't make it to my top list 😒. Thanks again!
I loved the Cinque Terre. Corniglia was wonderful….BTW 😁😁
yes! so beautiful there :)
You guys have us pumped for Italy!! We are heading there next week. We would love to meet y'all when we're there! ☺️
Yes! :) where you headed to?
OMG we were just there too lol how crazy that we have been going to the same places but off by a couple days of eachother lol. Heading back to the U.S. soon and we are trying to decide between a northern U.S. trip or coming straight back to Europe after our wedding in September. We missed Monterosso but spent some time in Vernazza. The ferry was great but so expensive (We stayed in La Spezia). One way from Vernazza to La Spezia on train was only 4 euros compared to one way on the ferry 23 euro or a day pass on the ferry is 35 euro I believe.... but of course you can't beat the view from the water. Anyways, cheers, hope your trip is going well
Love the Take Out Break Outs: good to know you do the same things we do! (“Am I backlit?” Lol). P.S. love the music- some of our faves to use as well :)
Ha yeah - seems like Epidemic sounds is almost running out of music, we hear the music we use all over CZcams by now. And thanks :) how are things going?
@@LisaAndJosh Right? We are always looking for new stuff and end up going back to the same songs. We are in Alaska and loving it! Actually headed to Europe (hopefully, pandemic and all) at the beginning of September. If we are ever near each other we should meet up!
@@travelwithateam2237 Yes! Just let us know when you're heading over and we'll figure that out
@@travelwithateam2237 love that idea!!
Wonderfull
Thank you! :)
Awesome edit 👌🏼
Thank you! :)
Yeah agreed - I just think Cinque Terra was not right for us, as we didn't have enough money to see it properly :(
As italian (from Florence) i was been for my first time in the Cinque Terre in 1978 with the School, i was 14 yo
how has it changed since then?
@@LisaAndJosh Those 5 placese are not changed so much in theirself
Bravi ragazzi! Siete i numeri uno! 👏 p.s.: it”s better to go to Cinque Terre by train or even better by boat to enjoy the view of the coastline. Portovenere worth a visit too. From Genova Porto Antico you can also reach easily Portofino and San Fruttuoso by boat. Ciao! 😊
Oh really? We have to go by boat next time. Is it a tour operator, or a ferry?
@@LisaAndJosh it's a tour operator. there are many of them at the Porto Antico :) if you visit www.golfoparadiso.it you can see all the prices and the little trips I also recommend you the whale watching one
By train is very good too ;)
You know I never went on foot to see what you saw, always done it on a motorcycle. You where wery brave do it it in that heat!
Ha, brave / dumb I would say :) How was it by motorcycle? Sounds amazing
@@LisaAndJosh oh it was great fun, of course in some places we had to park and walk, we did it sometimes in the car but it is hard to find free parking. I am really glad you liked it 😉
Hi, thanks for your helpful movie! I'm planning a 3-day trip to Florence and want to dedicate one day for either Cinque Terre or Venice. Which one would you recommend for a day trip from Florence?
Great video. We are hoping to head to Italy next year. I have Cinque Terre on our list to stay at least one night rather than day trip. The crowds in your video make me nervous though. Did you feel like it was tooooo touristy (we are traveling in April/May off season)? Also…are you aware this video and a couple others aren’t in your playlist. I had to search for them when I realized I was missing holes in your trip. Thanks!
That's great! We wished we had stayed a night there instead of rushing to make our way back to Genoa. We were there in July, so it was in the height of summer travel, so it was quite busy, so perhaps it'll be less busy the you get there. And thanks so much for letting us know--we had no idea! Will fix that right away :)
Dang!!! Well didn't you know you were going to a beach. Better research next time 😂
Cliffs of insanity!!!
this was really informative. I, too, have had this place on my dream list for many many years, and I did know there were gonna be hoards, and I do know you went during high season, but I'm still..wondering if the crowds everywhere didn't take a little away from the beauty and from the place living up to expectations?
plus I'm really curious if anyone have experience with visiting at other times of the year where there might be fewer people?
The crowds on the beach make it practically impossible to enjoy the beach, but the other places werent quite as packed, and we went at the height of tourist season! (vid is on our channel). When B went in the Italian winter, it was less busy, but also slightly-less-beautiful, hope this helps
@@tjandbtraveling it does! thank you so much for taking the time to reply me 😊👌
Always pack a swimsuit! This was Lisa's advice from a Hawaii video way back-- was it the Makapuu lighthouse video?
or jump in the water dressed .....lol with that sun in 10 min dry...lol
Yep that’s the one! Didn’t think it applied to Europe, but turns out it totally does.
What camera did you use for this video? :) ❤
What station did it take you to firstly? And then is it the cinqu terre train card you need to go to monterosso station?
Do you only need a train card to their and it includes the return?
What time did you start hiking? I've been there a couple times and hiked starting at 8am and saw very few people on the trails.
We started at around that time actually, maybe between 8 and 9. It got busy real fast
What a gorgeous view 💖you've got there from the killer steps !!! Lol. His 🎪comment made me laugh so hard !!! 🤣LOLLOL LOL 😆 It looks very hot there !! THAT 🫒 FOCACCIA LOOKED SO ~~ SO ~~ GOOD & YUMMY 😋 I LOVE LOVE FOCACCIA !!! 💘👍👍💜💜💜💜🥁🐉🎵🎤🎶💕💞
Haha yep - focaccia is amazing for sure. And pretty easy to make at home! :)
@@LisaAndJosh Oh really !!? Some friends & people I used to know were into bread making at home !! But, I've never been interested in making ,but eating 'em !! LOLLOLLOL Do you guys bake breads yourselves !!? I love pastas !! I am a carb addict !!? Lol. But ,again never been into making pastas on my own ,some I used to know did !! I just eat 'em !! LOLLOLLOL 😅 I'd love to try making some focaccias if that's really true ( easy !? ) !! But ,again I had tried baking cakes a long time ago ,they just went flat !!! LOLLOLLOL 😅After several tries ,I quitted it !! Lol. And stuck with cookies instead !! Though, that was a real long time ago !! Maybe I should give a real try again ,I am gonna bake some Welsh cake in the near future !!! But , I am scared of failing again & it's been a year since the decision I had made !! Lol. Thank you so much for this beautiful video & your reply !! 💖👍👍💜🥁🐉🎵🎤🎶💞
Hi guys, great content, thanks for sharing! Can you give me an opinion? I plan to spend 2 nights and 2 full days in Cinque Terra, staying in La Spezia. Do you think it's too long? Will I get bored? Thanks
we actually wish we had spent more time in Cinque Terre and regret not staying a night or two along the trip, so we could really explore the villages. so that sounds like a great trip!
❤🇮🇹⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🇮🇹❤
