The Audi A8L sits at the top of the Audi luxury lineup, offering long wheelbase executive levels of comfort, the latest technology and strong performance. As a luxury flagship, it is obviously going to be expensive, but this vehicle is equipped with the W12...meaning it was $180,000 brand new!!! After 6 years of depreciation, this A8L can be purchased for $50k, making it one of the most luxurious cars for that kind of money. Michi Scholl does the chancellors car really have the W12? I’d think it’s prob a smaller engine?
I'm from Germany and I picked up my a8w12 yesterday.
90.000 kilometers on it. From an enthusiast and he took really good care of it. It have every Interieur option and I payed 34.000 euros.

Hard to believe 2012 was 7 years ago. Feels like we were just there.
this is basically a freight train for the Autobahn big heavy fast Luxurious vehicle. A friend of mine had one of these I remember being in the back seat as we are approached a hundred miles an hour and up to around a hundred and sixty the car basically got quieter lower and more comfortable the faster we went I was very impressed with that car back in 2012 it was one of the most sought-after vehicles for a big 4 door in my opinion. Could be used as a business man's chauffeured vehicle as he commuted to work on the Autobahn I really love this vehicle. As a guy in this video said he's had no problems with it at all. Yeah I think you guys are making it sound like a lemon yeah you're going to pay for all the prices for maintenance but come on it's not that much of a lemon.
Let's be real here, the demographic that purchase these don't have money issues. So if something was to go wrong with it maintenance wise, they could afford it. Dishing out 9k is chump change to them 😆
im not too sure about that..
Just wait a few more years and all the fuckboys will buy these up and put it on air bags and donk wheels while the oil is still pissing out from valve cover gaskets. They will be trashed. The demographic that buys these types of cars will cycle them with 3 year leases and strictly take it to the dealer.
@@pepehands8224 Very true man 😉
The demographic you are thinking of does not buy 7 year old cars with high mileage.
@@SirSchmittyX The demographic I'm talking about either buys or leases brand new.
Great review Eddie. Amazing car
Thanks!

Haha very true
That was a D3 W12, NOT a D4
No, he drove an Audi S8 2018 model
I need $50.000 for the purchase and $130.000 for the maintenance.
Luckily this owner has not had to spend that much on maintenance!
@@EddieX thats a bad thing! lmao these cars are not meant to be high mileage cars. Are you trying for some audi sponsorship or something?
Have any of you commenting this shit owned an Audi before? Specially newer models that are S or high trims? Coming from someone who owned an b8 S4 the car was great and didn’t have any real issues. Yes maintenance is costly (once out of warranty) but the plus is that you don’t really encounter issues frequently on these cars as long as you keep up with the recommended maintenance. Plus, anyone that even considers this car in the used market would be someone capable of the upkeep. You are not going to get some dude shopping around for a Toyota, Honda, or Chevy in the 40-50k range cross shopping this car.

Amazing deal!! I bought a 2013 VW Phaeton (MSRP 98.680 Eur) 6 years later in perfect condition with 150K KM for 17K Eur! These cars are an amazing steal.
Until you run into engine problems.
Unfortunately not available in the US
I think there are even cheaper ones. Especially cause your model here in the video is the 2nd generation. Could get a 14/15/16‘ model w12 or 4,0/4,2 engine for under 60k here in germany. Its pretty insane but same goes with the bmw 7series. 1 year old didnt run 50k km but is worth a third of its original price

@HumbleMechanic said it the best. You are paying only $50k but you are maintaining a $180K car.
the video just had to be above 10 minutes didn't? For all the repetitive dialogue it wasn't really worth it stretching it that long tbh. Just keep it nice and short.

It wasn't a w12 .... it was an audi a8 L d3 not a D4 , D3 is better then D4
Just noticed, this particular vehicle has got diplomatic plates (of germany) on it. Eddie, it's highly likely you drove a german ambassador's car :D
Saw some w12 a8l in Germany
Really good condition for 34.000 euros. That's my absolutely favorite car.
I would never buy a 458 or a aventador.

That interior is beautiful
It was amazing!
Some 21" Audi wheels and it would be PERFECT!!. I would give my son an allowance to drive me everywhere. All the good luxuries are in the back.
I took a w12 for my prom it was awesome. Sadly I didn’t go past 40..
YOOOOOO YOUR IN KENTUCKY!!!!!!!
You should come over to Louisville, it’s got great cars, especially the eastern side of Louisville.
I was actually in Michigan haha. Haven't been to Kentucky in a while. might make a trip at some point!
Oh hahaha, I thought you were in KY because the Audi’s license plate said Kentucky!
How much would a 2014 with 115k miles on it be ?? Aprox
Nice and I love the fact that the owner likes to get cars that are rare or that you don’t see everyone buying 😬. I hate when I see everyone with the same thing 🤨.
Haha you definitely would get along with him. He keeps telling me the cars I want to buy are too common
EddieX 😬
Niiiiice! Nice bigger wheels and the suspension set a little lower and rear window tint and an agressive exhaust would transform the car to a beast! Now that it’s more affortable to younger people this car’s image will change from an old man’s car to a much cooler car. If it had air suspension set super low there wouldn’t be many cooler cars in the world. Maybe the current AMG S65L is cooler but still this is pretty close.
Ivanov, Marcell That’s the exact opposite of what i’m talking about. Every big sedan should have tinted windows straight from factory because it makes the shapes of the rear of the car come together. Also bigger wheels for the same reason. Small factory wheels makes cars look like nothing. And exhaust would have to fit the character of the car and bring out some sound of the W12. Who would put a cheap quad exhaust on this? And air ride is just cool because you can get rid of the wheelgap and choose any ride height you like.. I did mention younger people but didn’t mean teenagers. More like 30-45 when the original target audience was 40-85. Everyone who puts stickers on their cars should be punched in the face.
50k is a lot for this car! A few bumps and scrapes and you can find this car for about 30k here in Florida.
Of course you need to set aside another 50k for maintenance if you plan to even just use it for the next 5 years.
Do you still own it? Any problems you had? Thanks.
I just came across one on Cargurus, I wish I can afford to buy right now.
Absolutely gorgeous car! Only thing i dont like is the steering wheel lol slap on the r8 steering wheel and she's perfect lol
@Eddiex616 they are great deals for anyone willing to take a slight risk, I have had great luck with Audi, I had 2- A6's bought with 50K and 60K miles on them, bought both around $21000 and put over 100K miles on them and spent about 4k on one and nothing but oil and brakes on the other and now i bought a 2011 A8L 96K sticker with 43Kmiles for 31K, I have put additional 40K miles on it and spent 1k on maint. only. they are worth the risk dont listen to the haters. Thanks for the video

Great video. I just got a used 2012 A8L W12 and just love it. An a bit nervous about future maintenance, but at this level who cares.
What did you pay for it
How’s it holding up for you?
Its Aluminium man.😂😂😂
@@bobthebeast1965paid $24,500 back in late 2019. I just upgraded to the new A8 2020 3.0 diesel. The W12 was amazing, no issues at all.
@@Vank508never had even one issues even after 120k on the odometer.
What is the torque on that W12? Gorgeous car and the interior is stunning! On par with any Benz or BMW, even Bentley or Rolls. The price is a steal, the maintenance will kill you in the long term, but with the money you save it may be worth it. Since I'm an enthusiast, I would go for an S8 or RS7. Really cool find!
628Nm of torque. But in truth if you own it for 5+ years, you are likely to pay the price of the car just on maintenance. Not to mention the fuel economy. Maybe for a lot less you can find Merc W140 with V12 engine, if it ever came to the States. That is a beast, 400hp, 580Nm, 4 speed auto. That one is also very old, and running that thing will run you to the ground if not careful but still, a really cool car. But in general, German cars lose value the moment you take it out from the dealer. Its crazy. In my opinion, Japanese cars, especially quality Toyotas keep their value really good. i.e. Here in Europe a Land Cruiser Prado 3.0 diesel engine from 2004 is 25k with 160k km / 100k miles. That thing is really old, and brand new it was around 60k. So half the price in 15 years. And some of those Lexus LS models keep the price really good.
Torque = a lot. In all seriousness I think what the other commenter said was accurate. This was full out luxury, I agree and would probably end up in an S8 or RS7! Amazing car tho
@@stef123992 i totally agree with you those land cruisers are really expensive
Well saying its on par with Bentley is actually not a far stretch :D If you consider that its actually the same W12 that goes into half of bentleys. And they are all made on same platfrom and use similiar tech/parts. Of course bentley is much much bigger leauge than an A8 but you know what I mean.
A 6ft 3in oriental !
the W12 engine configurtion makes way less power figures with respect to its displacement ....Can anyone explain
Go ask Ferdinand Piech about his engineering ...
its a nice car only if you buy it new. Or else its a ticking time bomb if you buy it used. its only a matter of time before things will start to break
Nice video.
Did you glance at that Mercedes in the left hand lane @ 10:10? Lol.
haha I was def looking at something
Yea there's a Audi S8 for sale at Lexus dealership a 2015 for less than half the price, confused the hell out of me.
Just don't trust why or how it lost so much value.
Probably not a good sign the owner traded it in for a Lexus LOL
Vehicle virgins> EddieX
This is basically a Bentley with an Audi logo
Yeah no. I don't want to service a W12 engine.
Def. not cheap. It may be a $50k car now, but has the costs of ownership of a $180,000 car
@anonymous Lol Actually I can. Retired Army here. Done when I was 39 and it's three years later now. I am looking for a new car though. Thinking about a B7 RS4 because I missed out the first time.
@@pherron7471 I drove a methonal injected S4... Total sleeper, I would say go for the rs4!
you don't have to, very often. If properly taken care of, w12 engines are very long lasting.
@anonymous Why would you assume he couldn't afford one?
I would take 4.2 TDI for its fuel economy and power, with custom ECU this car can reach 300km/h while sipping 15l/100 km
It's a shame that its not available in the US. But I think a V6 TDI is available (in the A6 too)
Dad just bought the same one last week, thing's a fucking tank
182 W12s came here in 2012.
my brother has this car, and the ride quality isn't THAT great, u can hear some road noice and the rear reclining seats seat way to high to be comfortable no matter what level of reclining you make it. interior quality is nice and its fast and drives nice but its not amazing i feel like the Mercedes drives more smoothly
Thanks for input;
Is this particular owner selling THIS Audi? How do we get ahold of him/her?
It is my car. Reply and I will respond.
Hey guys I have a 2009 Audi A8L V8 one of the most ridiculously pieceof shit junk ever. When it runs it's amazing but the maintenance is unreal. You have to love the car to the point where it's like sentimental value to continue to maintain it. I'm at 105K miles.
I found one for under 30k I think I'll use the extra 20 for maintenance who am I kidding I'm going to do the maintenance myself
Under $30k sounds suspiciously cheap. Does it have 200k miles lol
This is a gorgeous car! Btw why would you even want a W12? I get a V6 might be a little underpowered but why not get a 400 something hp V8 instead? Or even an S8 version? It probably has cheaper maintenance, better fuel economy, and its faster.
@@EddieX in europe alot of a8s have more than 200k miles most of them have over 300k miles
Transporter, first thought
Straight pipe? I wonder how it would sound!
Maintenance really is not that much however repairs are another story.
Agreed. Theres a difference between being able to buy it, and being able to afford a car like this
German chancellor drive in this A8. :) Most of European governments, politician, prime minister etc drive in A8L. :)
Transporter 🥰
One thing to know: This specific W12 is the most complex and expensive engine to service today.
it's just an engine. if you struggle you simply pull it out , do the maintenance and put it back in
S8 is short wheel base only. And the W12 is long wheel base only. The A8 looks too small in short wheel base.
I just bought mine for $63000
25.000£ in uk

Like Audis. I own an Audi. I wouldn't touch a W12 with a 10 foot pole. Being able to purchase one does not equate to being able to afford to own one. I can't rationalize an engine out to change an O2 sensor.
Definitely insanely expensive. Which is likely why they depreciate so hard. Like a year ago I could have straight traded my S4 for a same year same miles A8 with the V6... And the A8 started at a msrp like $20k higher. Crazy.
