The 2011 Audi A8 is most often compared to the Mercedes-Benz S550 and the BMW 7 Series variants. They each offer their own take on the European sport sedan. Excellent review - great presentation style, great delivery and great information. This car is definitely a 'beast' to say the least - Audi has a way with mixing aesthetics and performance - in a manner that quite frankly, amazes me.
Excellent review Ross... always like your presentation style... also please make sure that you show us the rear cabin space and trunk space of the cars you review... some of us do look at those stuff...

Maybe Roadfly could try 2 reviewers compare the A8 and BMWs' 750i at the same time. I sat in the new A8, and it really is a beautiful place to be.
For the past few years I've been fixing up two classic cars, I'm going to sell them when I turn 16 and buy one of theses!
The funny thing is that it's not even that expensive comparing to its competitors.

Who questions if Audi has caught up to BMW and Merc? Audi has clearly surpassed them both coming into this decade. Best sedans on the road today. Can't wait to buy a used A8 W12 when they're older haha

That was an excellent review.
Ross, you forgot to mention how the seats scare the devil out of you by grabbing you when you start the car. The side bolsters and lumbar change positions when you start the car. Kind of weird the first time you experience it! :-)

@krsticmilos1 theyre called gloves. theyre used to keep your hands warm. but i believe the fingers on them were folded back so he could be comfortable turning the wheel

These are extremely nice ! My father had a 2008 Audi A8, but he wants to get the new 2011 Audi A8, but they are not in the inventory at our local Audi dealership yet.

@mozartman2000 - the spaceframe and the body panels are aluminum... the A8 was first in class to do it. Jaguar does a good job uses different methods yes... but they weren't the first. Their main weight advantage is because they don't have AWD in their vehicles.
2012 7 series can be ordered now starting March and I will be placing my order once pricing is released next month.
I thought it said Audi R8 instead of A8 in the title before clicking on the video. I still like it though
Awesome review. Informative with genuine positives and negatives/questions about it's value. While I can never afford one, if I had the money and wanted to get something that wasn't a Subaru, an Audi would be my 1st and 2nd choice!

You make a good point - being that the car is aluminum - the only downside to AWD is erased. Love everything about this car - except for the front face... it just doesn't look as good as the smaller Audi's - or as classy as the Jaguar XJ or Merc S-Class. That aside - performance and fuel efficiency will improve even more when the 4.0T with cylinder de-activation finally gets utilized.

i think family saloons like this are best made with diesel ... even though this is a V8, i think a diesel would do better as alternative fuel is now in demand.. why not? there is an Audi R8 with a V12 diesel and thats a supercar ... plus, Audi has produce some really outstanding clean diesel engines ... btw, this A8 is marvelous .. have a nice day people :)

I drove both audi and my friends bmw. Handling is totally a preference because we were driving lines on a windy road and the audi had the "feel of the road". The audi was a different character on many roads with the slightest differences (cracks etc). Now the bmw, when I drove, had sport tuned suspension which absorbed EVERYTHING.
Handling is up to the driver if he decides to yank the wheel out of the way before he smashes into a tree.
the lighting really does look like the suits in tron.. go figure....hey i just noticed; i have those same glove/mittens,ha. and also, 80 mph at 2000 rpm?! that's insane, my merc m class right now does 2500 rpm just to do 60

@Amidat Audi is only partially aluminum. Jaguar XJ / XK is all aluminum

The car is cool I own a 05' long wheel base and this new car is not as sporty feeling as mine. I think the 750i x-drive will be my next move.

While I'm a little impressed but the look at "feel" of the vehicle, I think Audi may get some points on the "cool factor" with the neat little gadgets but when it comes down to it, "cool factor" only sells cars in the compact class.
@venom5809 My dad is thinking about getting the new BMW 7 Series, Audi A8, or a Mercedes-S550 ... I really like the new 7 Series and I hope that is the one he gets ..
would be nice to see the trunk and back seat too in these reviews... oh well

The front end styling took a step back IMO.
@rickyrod3421 - wrong - ALG says that Acura - Lexus - and Audi have the best residuals. The truth is the reason BMW offers better leases than Audi is because the BMW gives subsidies to push volume.
I have to reply to that just because ive seen that, plaza motors st Louis, the guy showing the car had a pair of white, don't know what they were made of, but did have a pair on, I thought that was classy, and the car was an a8l w12 model, I think it was around 150,000 bucks, a beautiful car, have a good one
