  • This modern birdhouse project was a blast! I made this for my wife's birthday, and she absolutely loves it. I made this using walnut and ash hardwood, but it can also be built using half-inch plywood. I tried to be as thorough as possible in the video. If you have any questions about the build, I would be happy to answer them in the comments! Enjoy the video!

    What a fab video, the bird box looks great. I am definitely going to have a go at making one of these.
    The only thing I would add is the ability to remove the panel to the left of the bird hole to allow for cleaning.
    I bet this has weathered well to a wonderful colour now.
    👍👍👍

      Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, making the panel removable is a good alteration. I just end up using chop sticks at the end of the season. The color and patina on this one is indeed fantastic!

    Absolutely gorgeous! What a gift, my nephew is wanting to build his own birdhouse but with being too young to use a table saw etc. I’m premaking him his own that he can put together and hang. Found this video, thanks for sharing!!!

    Looks great. Thanks for sharing your process.
    A few suggestions from the Audubon society birdhouse book: skip the peg to limit predator access, and make sure the roof is removable for future cleaning. I think the inside might be okay but it wouldn't hurt to have some structure for baby birds to climb out. And you did a good job avoiding toxic paints and finishes (and no finish on the inside)!

      Thanks! I put the perch on for that “classic” look but I think it would look and function well with out it too.

    Ok, that work is awesome, but I did not see any door or access to clean the inside of the house, when the birds leave the nest, but I will make a door for it at the bottom or at the back which can be opened and closed to clean the interior, thanks for show us your great job ! 😉👍

    • @TimberBiscuitWoodworks
      @TimberBiscuitWoodworks  Před 2 lety

  • @norski2404
    @norski2404 Před 2 lety +1

    How do you open the bird house to clean it out? It should be cleaned out early every spring or fall.

    • @TimberBiscuitWoodworks
      @TimberBiscuitWoodworks  Před 2 lety +1

      I actually used chopsticks the first year to clean it out. But I might drill a larger hole in the bottom this year and then cut a plug for it. Honestly it just depends on how full it gets each season.

  • @billcoley8520
    @billcoley8520 Před 3 lety +1

    Do you let the weight of the wood be the clamps with tape holding everything still

    • @TimberBiscuitWoodworks
      @TimberBiscuitWoodworks  Před 3 lety

      The tape has a little stretch to it so it acts as a clamp for the areas where an actual clamp would be difficult to use.

    is there any other way to make a hole in a birdhouse because i dont have that drilly circle thing and i cant find it anywhere

    • @TimberBiscuitWoodworks
      @TimberBiscuitWoodworks  Před 3 lety

      Good question! So you could use a spade bit but just be careful with that as they sometimes like to walk out of the hole. I would use a punch or an awl to mark the center location before drilling. And make sure you clamp down your workpiece to a piece of scrap wood or plywood so you don't get tear-out when the bit breaks through the other side.

    • @TimberBiscuitWoodworks
      @TimberBiscuitWoodworks  Před rokem

      Thank you! I just use chop sticks to clean it out, but you could opt for a plug on the bottom. And a stain would work, just make sure it can hold up to the elements.

    Coincidental I ran into this video, I'm in the process of finishing my ash birdhouse with tung now.
