Here's a little montage which takes us from an empty nest box to first egg. The British Trust for Ornithology has a BlueTit Diary page which sets out their nesting and breeding habits - www.bto.org/understanding-bir... - and states that usually blue tits spend between one and two weeks building their nest. Some even build their nest in only a few days. Our female took between 6 and 7 weeks! Such a perfectionist. It might go some way to explain why this nest was so deep!
BTW As of the 7th June the parents have been spotted still feeding the fledged chicks in the garden.
The follow up - First Egg hatching to Fledging - is now available here - czcams.com/video/txCB6REY-1w/video.html

Thats one cute birb, cant wait to see it grow up on this channel 👌
sand the hole where the bird enters!
When our large, hairy dog sheds her winter coat, we put the fur in elbows of trees in our woods. We sometimes see a bird flying by with Winnie fur in its beak. It makes us feel good knowing her soft, warm fur is cradling new life.
That's so cool and considerate!
Wonderful
🥲 that's so sweet
I do the same with my cats fluff after a brushing, my daddy taught me to do that so that ‘the squirrels, mice and birds have warm nests for winter’ XD

I think it is a small security camera, there is no way someone stayed there for 45 days filming, I doubt the bird would feel safe with a person that close
She really did a house tour, tapping on the walls to see if it’s sturdy walls.🤣 I’m so happy she has a nice safe home to have her babies.
The small entry holes will keep out a lot of larger prey too. Good design!
@@jimhsfbay exactly!
Yeah but how is she going to get in when she is pregnant?
@@jimhsfbayI made a bird box last Autumn 🍂 and I put in a 20mm hole 🕳️ instead of the RSPB recommended 25mm. Now I have a pair of bluetits visiting everyday however they just sit at the entrance examining it for a few minutes then fly off. I’m thinking it’s too small and I’ve made a mistake. My thinking that it would increase security from predators…we will see…🤞🤓

they want what we all want
We clean our nest boxes out every spring and put in a big handful of cedar shavings as a base layer. It fills much of the void in the box, cutting down on the birds labor. Cedar is also a natural deterrent of lice, mites and insects such as ants which have been known to swarm nests and kill baby birds.
I’m not familiar with bird nest building. How big are the shavings you used? What kind of birds made nests in your boxes? I’m curious
C’est sympa pour les oiseaux ❤
Can this work on humans ??
My favorite thing is that she changes her mind about what she wants in the nest and takes it out on the first couple of times. It's seemed very human to me or I guess it's something that humans do that is indicative of animals in general.
Yeah I agree, animals often surprise me in their intelligence
It’s actually two birds though so it’s probably just that they didn’t complete agree on which vibe they wanted for the first layer.. ;) it’s still very relatable though.. “look at the amazing carpet I found at the thrift store” … we all know that don’t always go over well haha 😅
Humans are animals.

Animals are so amazing and so much more intelligent, industrious, etc, than many ignorant humans think they are! Watching this video reinforces that knowledge and this little Blue Tit is wonderful! She's so busy, precise and careful about what she does. She's obviously a great mum! Adorable. I miss seeing the Blue Birds in the garden of my former home, where there were lots of other birdies too (Robins, Thrushes, Blackbirds,, etc).

Love how she's looking around and realizing she just hit the jackpot
Its a He not a she males are responsible for making the nest
@@alexmichaelseepersaud6633 oh didn't know that cool
Yep, it doesn’t get any better than this without going into captivity.
Compared to a nest in a tree or in the “A” or “b” of a sign, this has many advantages
1. Protection from the elements. The mother and her children are almost completely protected from precipitation and wind, meaning that they shouldn’t problems fighting the cold. Furthermore, it also protects against storms and inclement weather from damaging or destroying the nest.
2. Protection from Predators. This is not full protection since a Cat or a Rodent could reach inside, but against larger like birds of prey, this works well. A Hawk or Eagle will be too big to fit through the hole and their legs are likely not long enough to grab the bird, eggs or chicks if they stay at the far corner. It is also very hard to identify as a target for a high flying bird scanning for prey, who may likely see this a just a wooden box unless they see the mother and/or chicks entering/exiting the house.
3. Structural integrity. A nest in a tree may be damaged or destroyed if the tree branches starts moving, and even if the nest is in intact, the eggs/chicks can fall out in extreme conditions. The house is secured to the trunk of a tree or to an artificial post that ensured that the house stays still, even in suboptimal weather. And because it is contained and rigid, the nest and it’s occupants should remain safe even if the mount moves.
yeah, kinda too nice to be true
@@alexmichaelseepersaud6633 It says in the description "Our female built the nest in 6-7 weeks", but it looks like both did it to me.

How do they know to do it? It’s just wonderful. This video gave me an insight into what’s been going on in my own garden. Thank you for sharing.
Absolutely fascinating, especially how they select materials, she starts off with straw like sturdy materials for the base then selects softer yet firm stuff for the 2nd layer, and then selects very soft insulative materials, like the cotton brambles.
@Inda Now right, every animal has its instincts that its ingrained with, but to watch them actually use those instincts in a natural uninterrupted platform...amazing.
@@robert9595 Reducing animal behaviour to instincts is actually a rather limited way of thinking about these conscious creatures. They do have their simple thoughts and luckily they're far less destructive than the self-crowned kings - humans. That being said they are amazing to watch, yes. So nice to be able to see this. Thank you!
I like how it tests the wood for sturdiness, brings in sample plant-flooring to see if it likes it, takes out the samples it doesn't like, settles on what it wants and the returns to renovate then move in.

@@nathanielpatterson6963 they put fur or fibrous material they can find on top to act like insulation to trap heat in the vegetation they gathered, essentially using their body heat to warm the entire floor and thus incubate the eggs effectively.
