    I'm Molly, a typical sushi, makeup, and fashion loving millennial girl who just so happens to be blind! I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa at just 4 years old and began public speaking at age 5. I started just doing motivational speaking, but now I make videos and even model! Even though I can’t see, I know that there are bright spots in everything we face. Let’s find them together. 💕

She also does it for carers so they know what to do. I even bring a bell into hospital with me so she can let us know when she needs to go toilet. I also have attachments on all my door handles so she can open and close any of them herself, especially helpful if she needs to go an item for me like my medbag.

    I started training as a flight attendant and I was very excited to learn the special attention passengers briefing!! • @sooooooooooooooo
      @sooooooooooooooo Před rokem +1

      Honestly during training they didn’t teach us at all at my airline, I won’t say what airline , and I feel like I did absolutely everything wrong that you’re not supposed to do. So what I wish someone would have told us at training …. ( I don’t know if your aisles are straight but our first class actually has a random … curve ? Before you get to the main cabin. ) So be sure to let that person know if anything is coming up even if it’s at shin or knee level. I think we get so used to the layout of our own aircraft sometimes you don’t realize small details like that. Then , I would say be sure to offer your elbow or ask if you can grab their elbow . Be sure to mention if any of the lavatories are closed on one end or another so they don’t waste their time and if you say it over the speakers they may not notice so be sure to mention that during the briefing. Finally 😅 and most embarrassingly , I would say once they’re seated , maybe even lean in during the conversation , especially if they have a soft voice. I had thought this person was finished speaking and that we had understood each other and apparently after I walked away they had more to say and they didn’t know I had left. I felt totally mortified ! But anyway no one warned me about that stuff and I was brand new when that happened so I felt really jittery about getting the passengers seated and the door closed on time. So just relax and apologize best as you can if you happen to make any mistakes like me !! 😅

    • @sooooooooooooooo
      @sooooooooooooooo Před rokem +1

      The only special assistance they trained me at my airline was basically four basic comments to remind them of and none really had to do with day to day activities it was all emergency procedures stuff. Did you know you can make your own home ADHD-accessable/friendly? I also have ADHD, as well as a bunch of other psychiatric disorders, and since I did some changes a lot of things are easier for me to do at home.
      - A big whiteboard where I plan the week, with magnets of things to do (laundry, pharmacy, shower, friends etc), and a small portable one where I plan my day. I can easily see if I have planned in too much and need to cut down, or if it's imbalance in the week.
      - Place out things where I need them, so I don't need to go get them and get distracted on my way and forget my mission. Therefore I have 3 stations of pen and paper just in my kitchen, and that helps me not forgetting what I'm about to write down. My food shopping is easier to plan when I can grab the pen right on the spot.
      - Having timers on multiple places. If you're gonna do something fun and risk hyperfocus or getting stuck for too long, put a timer! If I'm on the computer I use the computer timer, for showering I use a kitchen timer to remind me to go to the next step and not standing for 30 minutes doing creams or whatever.
      There is more to do, this is just what I remembered right now. You can check out the channel "How to ADHD" here on CZcams, that's where I got my inspiration from. She's really great!

    Molly, enjoy your space! It’s really beautiful and is clearly well thought out. Elton and the furry crew are clearly comfortable there too. Looking forward to seeing the rest. I remember how the apartment started, and how frustrating the renovation was - hopefully you’re totally past that all now lol. I love it too!

    When my husband and I buy our forever home, I'm going to use your condo as design inspiration-minus the high tech appliances, because I have zero patience for technical difficulties. I'm not blind, but eye problems do run on my mom's side of the family and my grandmother has now been blind for years as had been her mother, grandmother, and five of her other family members of the older generation (not her siblings though). I have no idea if my mom and I are going to be blind one day. My grandmother didn't start losing her vision until she was in her mid to late 60's, and I believe her other blind family members also only started losing it post-retirement. My mom is now 64 years old, so I guess we will soon see if she inherited her mother's poor eye health.
    By the way, Elton John is more adorable than I could have ever imagined! I've never been a fan of black dogs or hairy dogs, and he is changing my entire perception of what I like and dislike in dogs because his playfulness, empathetic nature, and just overall BIG personality makes it impossible to not think he's the best and cutest dog on the planet.

    I’m sighted and have hooks at my front door for my doggies lead and harnesses too. Living in an apartment building I have had to evacuate too many times and finding a harness on top of struggling to put it on in a rush is not fun. Also love all the smooth corners they are so aesthetically please in in style right now.

    I need rounded corners and no handles. I do not have any visual disabilities but I have been told that with ADHD my coordination is crap. I catch walls fast and door handles are my worst enemy. Especially the one that are bars. I typically have such bad bruises on my arms.

  • @bunhelsingslegacy3549
    @bunhelsingslegacy3549 Před rokem +1

    I very much like the rounded corners idea, I'm sighted but klutzy and always catching my hips on bannisters and doorknobs and any corner that sticks out... and I've slowly gotten rid of everything I catch my toes on. No sticky-outy table legs or chair legs.
    I've already started using hooks for the stuff I need when I leave the house because leaving it all in a heap, or trying to remember where the heck I put the thing I need, or walking out of the house without my purse-equivalent... ugh.
    I'm left-handed, which you wouldn't think makes that much difference but it sometimes really does, I've got my tea station set up for me and right-handers have trouble with it, the last one who tried to use my electric kettle where it is ended up splashing boiling water on herself. Little things, but they make a difference. I've also got a back injury that makes it difficult to move heavy objects (like food processor and air fryer) from one elevation to another so I solved it with a wheeled cart where the couple heavy things that don't fit on the countertop but need to be used there can just be transferred from hip-height to hip-height which is fine for me.
    We've also removed all the closet doors, the sliding ones are always in the way and I run into the folding type because they inevitably end up open.
    Also my house doesn't have as many outlets attached to wall switches as I'd like so I've installed a couple of adapters so I can have certain things on switches that weren't wired that way. And I've got a couple of battery-operated motion sensor lights for stairwells that were not properly lit when the place was built, one's at the unlit top of a stairwell aimed at the top few stairs, and the other's in my main entry and it shines at the light switch.

    The bench in the shower is the best thing. - I sometimes get vertigo when in the shower- something about the hot water. ( which is why I probably prefer a bath) more places should do benches in their showers. ( also good when you are sick with a cold and need to do a eucalyptus steam) I hear you about banging into things. And pot lights have been pretty normal here in Europe for quite a while actually( especially Switzerland)
