This is for sure one of the saddest songs in Spanish you could ever hear.
"I rather to be asleep than awake of how much it hurts than your not longer here"
the saddest for me is
Is said that she sang this song for her daughter that tragically passed in acapulco dont know the whole story but i think her lil girl drowned thats why the song says you are the place from where i have the saddest memories Acapulco.
@@brendagarciamedina1219
Nope. This is a cover.
It's a Juan Gabriel's song talking about the death of his mother.
@@cletusvandamme2331 Agree. This is a Cover.
Rocío Durcal: the best Spanish speaking female singer. Juan Gabriel: the best songwriter. Those two will always be legends. May them rest in peace.
Rocío is far from being the best Hispanic singer. That title belongs to Mónica Naranjo and no one else.
@@Jonvocals that's your opinion, I have mine. Mónica Naranjo is a great singer and performer but she doesn't have the legendary status of Rocío Durcal.
I like your point, gracias amiga me gusta tu profesionalismo.
Play this song to any Mexican to IMMEDIATELY see tears rocketing from their heads. My GOD this song kills me every time. Especially since my mom passed away in 2015. The writer of this song, wrote it for his mom who passed away.
I thought rocio wrote it for her son who passed in Alcapulco
@@kingdanny8047 She didn't write this song, was Juan Gabriel.
@@kingdanny8047 That's a myth; Juan Gabriel was in Acapulco when he got a phone call telling him that his mother passed away.
Real talk. 🥺 This is so commonly played in funerals and burials and so fitting of the pain you feel. Makes everyone CRY soo hard when playing and you’re slowly seeing the casket dropping. 😭😢
Oh man i started crying even before she started singing. I can never get through this song without crying.
agape16 I know 😔 it reminds me of my grandparents
God bless her
Right!!! I always cry. Buenísima canción.
Same here..
Me too, fam... Me too
Juan Gabriel wrote this for his mother Beth.
Jorge Barajas i thought that Juan Gabriel wrote it for Rocio. Cuz one of her kids drowned and it was in Acapulco
Never mind I just read an article and it was to en ex lover of him that passed
@@allanaguilar6541 correct!!
Juan Gabriel wrote it for Rocio's daughter that drowned in Acapulco. That's why it says "el más triste recuerdo de Acapulco"
@@ipepec3 The song was recorded in 1974 and he met Rocio years later, Rocio played the song one decade after.
This song lists every single thing you'll think about when your own mother inevitably leaves this Earth, if she hasn't already. RIP to all the wonderful mothers who are no longer with us.
Thanks for the lovely words! My mother passed away a couple of months ago and its hard.
Sammael Ramirez I know exactly what you’re talking about. My mom passed away three months ago. Hugs and blessings to you my friend.
it's weird seeing someone so hyped while listening to this song. i was about to cry and then beth paused and was like YEY SHE'S GREAT!
That's because she doesn't speak Spanish, to her it's a collection of sounds.
Weird? Not at all, she isn't a native Spanish speaker and she is analyzing her technique. Maybe it's just the fourth or fifth time that she listens to the song. If you want to hear it uninterrupted, maybe you can find another video, or look for it in Spotify.
@@rlmartinez26 You are right... And she was like analyzing the techniques and stuff.
I am a Spanish native speaker, but however I fall to pieces when I listen to "The end of the world" by Skeeter Davis, or "beneath still waters" by Emmylou Harris. XD
She made a song called “la gata bajo la lluvia” that blows me away every time
My favorite song of her.
Saludo Beth 😘😘😘😍😎
the mexican has the hability to "celebrate the death"
She's from Spain.
She's spaniard
The song is not
The Song is Mexican my friends... but she sings it amazingly
They played this song outside the staple center when Kobe Bryant passed
That because kobe loved Mexican culture and we loved him so much that he deserved this song
This one piece is played for every deceased loved one in Mexico. The name of the some is called "Eternal Love". It's like "I wish you were here alive" kind of song
The original author Juan Gabriel wrote it from the heartbreak the passing of his mother caused him when he was in the middle of a tour in Acapulco
wow really
I don’t know if you know the story behind this song. She is singing to her dead daughter who did in Acapulco. But the song was written by Juan Gabriel for his mother who died in 1974 while he was in Acapulco. So yeah she is feeling every word. Very powerful song
This song gets to the heart of every Mexican including me every time you hear it. Thanks for the reaction
Facts! Estoy llorando en este momento
Siempre lloro siempre
Saddest song ever! Makes everyone who’s lost a loved one cry! 😭😭😭😭
Ohhh yes!!! And every year on mothers day, you can hear it a lot here in Mexico, also on funerals or at the cemetery on day of the death.
Adriana Vera yessssss
Written by Juan Gabriel when his mother passed away.
Her son was drowned in a pool.
When she does the “runs” she’s singing about “her mothers burial” this is such a clássic song to sing in funerals. Make every single person cry
I tried to focus in your reaction but man i cant stop crying this song reminds me so much of mi abuelita
A classic for mariachis in serenatas and burials. No, really: burials.
They sang this song at my grandmother's funeral we bawled...still get teary-eyed
I sang this song for my grandmother’s funeral. It was one of the hardest performances I’ve ever had.
One of my mom’s favorite songs, she passed away this year and everytime I hear this I just want to cry
Been playing this song for funerals for about 8 years.
I am already crying.... damn it.
Miss my Granma.
My grandfather sang this to my grandmother during the final moments of her funeral. 🙏💔
There is a version were she cries on stage, it’s heartbreaking

Thank you so much for reacting to this fabulous singer!! Rocío Dúrcal was an Spanish born but with a Mexican heart, she was the only foreign singer who could gloriously perform Mexican songs “rancheras”. I hope that you can react to some more of Rocío. Greetings Beth!
tuttimatutti Chavela Vargas was another foreigner who sang Rancheras beautifully too. But I agree Rocio Dúrcal was a great one, also Juan Gabriel’s muse.
Gracias 😘
A fellow spainered and the most beautiful voice of Spain and Mexico. Thank you for reacting to this song that is dedicated to all who lost a mother.
Viva mi Madre Partia!!!! 🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸
I still miss Rocío Dúrcal, she was amazing. We adore her in Mexico. I cry when I remember the day she died! She was so beautiful & passionate.
Great analysis, you describe every single inflection of her powerful voice.
“Latin singers are the best at this.” Yes , yes we are. We wear our heart and soul on our sleeves.
Rocio Durcal wasn't latin, and the latins you're talking about aren't 'latins' either... 'latin' is a spurious term created by Napoleon the 3rd in order to claim his rights to Mexico's crown

Juan Gabriel wrote this song when his mother passed away, he was on a concert on Acapulco and he has to finish knowing that his mother was gone. So sad but proof of his professionalism.
I love the fact that you know what the song is about
This must be Rocio Durcal's week. She had impressive vocals. This song doesn't demand much of it. React to Costumbres, La Gata bajo la lluvia, La muerte del Palomo. Just like Linda Ronstadt, she sang every genre and excelled in them. Aldo, youth could react to her first songs in movies like Volver a verte, Mas bonita que ninguna, which was features in that Oscar movie winner, Roma.
Btw, she didn't learn to sing from neither Camilo or Juan Gabriel, but both were het "compadres".
I support Costumbres
The audio of the video is awful, sadly Beth didn't chose the best video :( . I'll suggest to better check "Como tu mujer".
@@acirehm.3296 And there's a video with the mariachi director that worked along Juan Gabriel and he said Rocio came to him and asked him, are you going to teach me how to sing rancheras ? And he said: No, you just sing the way you've always sung.
I can’t even listen to this song it brings me to tears every time.
I remember my mother played this song all day when she heard that rocio durcal passed away.
Rocio was amazing!!! She still lives in all us who loved her n and in her songs. ❤️
Thank you for reacting to this beautiful song 🇲🇽
She was so fabulous, dramatic, and charismatic in her performances. I cannot get through this song without crying.
Rocio Durcal was a DIVINE and Goddess-gifted Artista that I was blessed to meet and photograph at the beginning of my career when I was only 19! There will never be another R🌟CIO.. 🙏🏼💖
I love this song! Although it makes me cry every time I hear it. 😭
Her voice was so angelic and she was beautiful! The way she sings this song can make a grown man cry!!! That’s how captivating she was and still is!!
Tears come out, when I hear this song. So much emotion that it touches your soul.
The trick is NOT TO CRY when you are interpreting this amazing but sad song about mourning a loved one.
Lola Beltrán “Paloma Negra”
This song is very sad, makes me think of my mom!! 😭😭❤
Juan Gabriel composed it after his mother passed away.
I love how you actually research the songs you listen to and the artists who perform them, Beth! The background stories of those songs make them extremely special!
I love this song. It’s so heavy and carries so much emotion that we can all relate too.
she and Juan Gabriel made a lot of duos, but of the best is "El Destino" you should listen how they mix their voices
Denisse Olachea great song!!!
Yes! Rocio and Juan Gabriel were beautiful together
I enjoy all your reactions. Very insightful. You're the Best.
that song makes a lump in your throat and you try not cry...many of us have impossible loves
Juan Gabriel wrote this song for Rocio, when she lost her young song, when her son drowned in the beaches of Acapulco. That's why in the lyrics it says: "I have suffered so much from your absence, since that day I have not been happy. And even though my conscience is tranquil, I know I could have done more for you. Dark solace I am living. The same solace of your sepulchre. You are the love of which I have, the saddest memory from Acapulco"
Era tan maravillosa Rocio!! Nadie canta esta canción como ella. Ella no sólo canta increíblemente perfecto... Ella, interpreta el dolor de la canción. Profesionalidad en grado extremo desde su juventud. Gran ser humano. Toda dulzura. 💖
😣😭
I want to commend you Beth for commenting on this artist which us Hispanics consider to be one of our great ones. I personally get in a trance with I hear this women's voice. Her voice alone takes you through her life experiences. Let alone the power behind those lyrics. Which you are correct.. They were also written by the the late and one of the greats. Juan Gabriel.. These two artists are the epitome of what we consider the pride of our Spanish roots. Even though she wasn't Mexican her self but hailed from Spain. Us Mexicans loved her and her music so much that we considered her one of our very own. Thank you for being open minded and actually taking the time to listen to greatness and the some of the best that comes from us. Thank you ...
*Love your reviews. Its awesome that you are willing to explore the greatness of songs in other cultures. RESPECT*
To the ONE person who thumbs-downed this: what the hell! This is absolutely beautiful!!!
It must have been the gig that said Juan Gabriel sings this better. What a joke. She's the one that made it a hit in 1984.
Sir, with all due respect, I don't know what you heard: the recording from your perspective may have sounded fine but, as I commented to Beth, she sounded okay and I could sort of hear the instrumental part but the lady sounded as if she was singing through.water. As you should be able to read in the reply to my comment, I was not the only person to experience this problem.
I went back to read your comment and the replies, rewatched the video but I didn't seem to have this problem. I apologize but I don't know what went wrong.

"Amor eterno (eternal love)" is a must in every burial and day of the dead ones. Leyend says that Juan Gabriel wrote it to Rocío by a son of her who died. Juan Gabriel was allways reluctant to sing it.
All mariachis know it. Pretty much every singer in Mexico (at least) has it in their albums, every style, every genre, every genre band or group, they have it. Even a classic guitar version (Julio César Oliva) is over here.

I can’t listen to this song without sobbing a little bit. Any Mexican will agree... “how I wished that you were alive... that your eyes had never closed and stare at them... my eternal love... unforgettable. Sooner or later I’ll be with you to keep on loving each other”...
I love her. They way she performed, they way she sang. Beautiful voice like no other. ❤️

Watch Ana Gabriel, she has a unique voice. One of the greatest singers of her time.
Rocío Dúrcal, Costumbres...
Thank you for covering this wonderful song and appreciating it
i love how she always picks the iconic classic latino songs ALL TIME!!! seriously my abuela still listen to them and me lol
Her first work was as an apprentice at a beauty salon. Second, movie star in the 60s, a cinema legend. She worked with Juan Gabriel in the 70s and she became also a legend in Mexican/Latin American music. I don't think she ever worked with Camilo but they were close friends.
As a violin student it helps me so much watching your analisis and videos, I have found yours the best since you go into interpretation, dynamics, tone and technique. The violin and voice are more similar than people tend to think. Most other "vocal coaches" just limit themselves to "Wows" and don't say much, making me doubt they are really vocal coaches. Thanks a lot for all the efforts you put in your videos and greetings from Mexico.
Lovely.

Here I am eating my fettuccine alfredo in tears. This is my moms favorite song and even though she is alive, the thought that Juan Gabriel wrote this for his mom after she passed really hits hard. This song brings me back to childhood. this used to play really loudly around the house.
The version of the story I know is that Juan Gabriel wrote it for his mother who passed away, but then as he knew Rocio Durcal; he, as her mentor, give it to her that song, like saying "you have to sing this song".
Is a very emotional song for us as Mexicans for that context, is like we have a message in our DNA that says "you have to cry with this song" xD.
But for real, many choose this song, in particular, to be played in funerals, so is mostly dedicated for a loved one who passed away.
