Durcal. The queen of airy singing, which makes singing sound more intimate. it's a choice of interpretation in Spanish. Rocío has a very unique and dynamic style of singing. She goes from raspy airy, to intense and clear full voice in a second and back very often. And her flamenco runs are her signature, too. She never hurt her voice like many singers did.. She sang professionally from 1962 to 2004. Only cancer/death stopped her.

    Eternal Love(Juan Gabriel compositor)
You are the sadness in my eyes
that cry in silence for your love
I look at the mirror and I see my face, the time that I have suffered since your goodbye
I force my mind to forget you
since I’m always thinking of yesterday

Rocio came from Spain. She was a child/teen movie star and singer there
She was huge in Mexico. Thanks to Juan Gabriel she became very popular in Mexico. Sadly she died of cancer in her mid 60s. This song was when she first started. She has so many songs out there. Infiel is one of my favorites. Look for her and Juan Gabriel singing together....Fue un Placer is beautiful. Sombras is also beautiful.
Interesting, her ashes were placed half in Mexico and half in Madrid, Spain after she passed.

The breathiness in this particular song has to do with the mournful lyrics, thats why she appears to be sobbing in my opinion. Having said that the Spanish language has more vocals than say... english or german which sound more "mechanical". Bear in mind that in german they use the lungs a lot when speaking, the english use throat and mouth and spanish a bit of throat but more mouth. Thats why spanish have no trouble with accents when learning japanese but have a hard time pronouncing english correctly.

I think is stylistic choice since she does that a lot. Not sure if that’s a good technique but she had a very very long career and even before passing away from cancer at the age of 61, she still sang her songs in original key and sounded exactly like her studio recordings. I’ve never seen a single bad performance from this incredible legend. In fact, when she performed in a Capella or with just a piano background, she sounded even better. I’m only 24 so I was never able to see her perform, I fell in love with her voice and her as an artist and performer a few years ago.

Her low notes are as good as the high notes, she is very soft in approach and ended nicely she is good like her style throughly music is simple as we know less is better it compliments her voice.

En order to sing these ballads, you need pour out your soul into the song, I as a judge, would like the singer that whatever they are singing, they need to convince me of that song, it's not just about the vocal cords, but, their acting it as well, you know, body language, facial reaction, eyes movement and so forth.

@@voiceenthusiast In Spanish, its mostly about storytelling. You could be technically impressive but if you don't connect with the audience, you'll have no career.

Is a sad song, for a love one who departed from this world, that is why the name of the song is Eternal Love, or Amor Eterno. Also, you should listen the version with Juan Gabriel the writer of this song.
"You are the sadness in my eyes
That weep in silence for you love
I look at myself in the mirror and see my face
The time I've suffered because of your goodbye
I force my thought to forget you
Because I'm always thinking of yesterday
I'd rather be sleeping than awake
Because of how much it hurts that you are not here
How I wish, ay*, that you lived
That your little eyes never had closed
And to be looking at them
    Love eternal and unforgettable
Sooner or later I will be with you
    To continue loving each other
I have suffered so much due to your absence
Since that day up to today, I'm not happy
And even though tranquil is my conscience
I know that I could have done more for you
    Dark solitude I am living,
The same solitude of your grave
You are the love of which I have
    The saddest memory in Acapulco
How I wish, ay*, that you lived
That your little eyes never had closed
And to be looking at them
    Love eternal and unforgettable
Sooner or later I will be with you
    To continue loving each other”

It's interesting what you say... Well I study English and maybe, OK, just maybe it's because our language is full of bowels and your language is full of consonants... Let's say that we can concentrate on that full long sound... Sound is frequency.. Meanwhile a consonant is the obstruction of a bowel. Anyway Rocío always had this amazing whispering sound exploding in a very sustainable and controlled manner... Knowing how to mix the Mexican and the Spanish sound.
