- Resource gathering and building galore! In the midst of a flu that took me out of commission for a while, I managed to advance into the iron age and get a load of work done on the farmhouse. We also break ground and mark out the foundation for another build...

Planting cattails in that pond by the barn so that you can just harvest them en masse might be worthwhile, and leaving fallow farmland to grow horsetail surrounding it. Turn it into a little rope and medicine spot.

There's a couple ways you could help alleviate the fear in regards to locusts, either by setting creatures to peaceful so they just become silly little guys, or once you get really good armor the normal bronze locusts don't do any noticeable damage anymore! Then they're just weird mechanical spider puppies pulling at your pantlegs XD

Could you consider doing a building tutorial in this game? How do you approach designing a house, how do you know how to to construct all the intricate chiseled details like the stairs, mantel, and picnic table? I would have never thought about doing that. There are no good building tutorials for this game whatsoever and I think you could do a great job!
I think that would be pretty fun to put together! I've already started working on a 'how to replicate replay mod in vintage story' video, so a walk through of how I approach builds and chiseling feels like the right next step. :)

@@lmcg9904 Oh I could definitely do more detail around the windows, like maybe at the very least some wood lining on the sides.
Like with the floors, I'm waiting for fancier buildings or ones where I don't care about weather sealed rooms to have some real nice custom windows :)

Sol! If the chests underneath your counters are inconvenient, QP's Chisel Tools (Which I think you have due to the pantograph?) offers a decorative chest which can be made by putting a chest in crafting grid with a chisel, after placing it allows you to apply a chiselled "skin" to it meaning you can turn your counter into the chest itself, if you look up "decorative" in the handbook theres a lot of other options too, I have custom clay ovens, window shutters, anvils, forge, and chimney stacks in my world and its very good and satisfying to mess about with.
(disclaimer: if making a custom anvil the surface of the chiselled skin has to be the same height as the vanilla anvil because the metal still sits on the bounding box, not your custom model)
If they could be made into chiseled trunks, I would definitely do it!
Also, last I read, the decorative chests won't work as a solid block to place things on, so the countertops would be bare... though if that isn't the case anymore, it might be worth looking into!
@@Solstin Ah thats a shame, its one of the few decorative things I havent tried yet because I only have storage vessels and baskets at the moment, maybe QP will change it in the future

Wow, this series was the tipping point for me buying the game finally and yet I didn't even realize you were sick... Well, I'm glad you're better! I really enjoyed seeing you build the house. Hopefully I can figure out how to build like you do, but I definitely couldn't build a whole town like that; both because of a lack of patience and the crippling feeling of loneliness of building a town for people who don't exist (unless there's some sort of NPC mod). Though, I feel like the game may help with the issue of patience. I've already caught myself staring at the stars moving by at night when I had nothing better to do, holed up in an abandoned church with barely any supplies and little sound other than the distant howling of wolves...

Best advice with building large areas, and come to think of it, with Vintage Story in general, is to take it one step at a time and enjoy the slower pace! It's a pretty relaxing game (when drifters aren't knocking at the door haha)

Thank you! It was a surreal experience going through the footage to write up the montage voice-over and not remembering half of what I had done during the fever days until I watched myself doing it!

This game takes some well paicent. And you have been building this house for 7(?) episodes. İ would love to see you build more things in the future.
İdk if you take suggestions but for the hot spring, either make it a cozy area for decorative purposes or turn it into a smeltery type thing(?) if thats possible, i dont realy know if the tempurature from the pond would affect the smithing process but anyway.
I think we're on the same page, I'll be focusing on building up stables for various animals next episode, and as we draw closer to spring there's going to be even more builds getting marked out and put together!
The farmhouse will very likely be the main base until the castle gets underway, so I'll keep working on the remaining details and rooms in between other builds, but I doubt there will be entire episodes dedicated just to the farmhouse going forward.
For the hot spring, I've been planning out the mechanics for turning it into a drifter kill-zone for temporal storms. I do like the idea of a smeltery for the design, so I'll see how I can work that in! I do also like the idea of making it decorative in the middle of a park, but we'll see what works out best for trapping and taking out drifters :)
The chiseling looks superb! A tip I’ve seen is, if you create the beam things used usually for increasing stability when mining, they look so good as decor, like skirting boards or tiny trims around the pains on the windows and beams and beam supports but I’m sure you could come up with some great stuff!
Glad you’re feeling better! The slight gruff to your voice actually gives off a bit of badassery lol! But hope you hit 100% better soon!
I've played around with the beams but what stops me from actually using them is how difficult they can be if they need to be adjusted after the fact.
I'll play around some more in a test world once I get around to updating my game version, I think there's been some tweaks to make them easier to work with!

@@Markimusgaming that's how it should work, for sure. I've come across too many instances of there being no hitbox to break them even after removing every block they could possibly be connected to :(
@@Solstin ah! From the looks on the video I’ve seen em used on, the hitbox was like, a few pixels in from where you placed it before stretching it where ever you needed to place the other end
@@Markimusgaming That's what I've seen, which makes it strange why I've had so much trouble with them in my own testing. Tried both creative and survival and had the same result. It could just have been a bug, so I'll give 'em another shot after updating!

Glad youre feeling better! I just wanted to mention you can make torch holders out of brass plates (even if its a pain) so you dont have to hunt down for aged ones. Myabe keep the aged ones in like the basement and brass in the house?

Haha yeah, I've been putting off making brass torch holders for the sole reason that I like the color of aged ones just a the tiniest bit more. 😆
But especially with other buildings about to be planned out and built, having more permanent light sources might need to be a priority!

I briefly looked into pursuing architectural engineering once, but I don't have any formal training. For about a decade now I've been doing TV, home theatre, and smart home installation, so I've seen all manner of houses over the years and picked up a lot of construction knowledge from framing to masonry and more.
One day in the far-flung future I might do a modern day build with realistic wall interiors and everything lol

How is your Prospect Together showing the Chunk Readings on the map?! Mine has somehow just become colored dots where i propicked...
The colored dots are base game now as of 1.19, so the only reason I still have the chunk readings from the Prospect Together mod is probably because I keep forgetting to update past 1.19.3!
I'll have to do that soon for the new barrel textures after I go through and update my mods :)

I haven't done much streaming since the VRChat days and a bit of D&D.
I'd probably need a more stable schedule for recording in order to stream with any semblance of a schedule, but when my work schedule changes that may become more of a possibility!
