  • Two mountains made in two different ways on The Harland Light Railway (my OO9 Narrow Gauge). One contains a slate mine, the other has a castle and crashing waterfalls (or will have when I have finished it). For the mountain with the slate mine entrance I used Sculptamold and Gaugemaster scatter and leaves, for the other I used toilet paper and ModPodge Glue. The structure for both is loft insulation foam.

Thanks. Currently adding crashing waterfalls to the castle. There will be another video when I have finished it.

Thanks Carol. The toilet paper and glue idea has given me the thought that it might work for a couple of open fields on my 009 railway. I've been wondering whether to simply apply static grass to the bare painted baseboard but covering the baseboard in 'fiddled with' toilet paper and glue will give a more realistic rough-ground effect, with maybe even little hillocks made with thin cut shaped foam under the toilet paper, for the static grass to go onto. Cheers. Vince

This is definitely my favoured method and it is cheap and straightforward too. Use Modpodge though rather than pva as it dries hard and is easy to paint and create surfaces on.

This is the method I have used for years and have created some amazing effects. I like the finished sculptamold product but it is messy and heavy so I think I will go back to my favourite in future!! 🙂
