Don't worry, 90% of sailors don't dock well. It's hillarious. You hear them saying "I sail for 30 years" and next Saturday see them mowing down the electrical box on the pier.
@@SuperSetright Maybe not. I have no steering in reverse at speeds less than 4kts. Have to go in bow first every time. On departure I hope that I have lots of helping hands.
@@SuperSetright Rudedrs are designed for forward motion. The rudder has no influence in reverse on my boat, until you can get a flow of more than 4 kts across it.
Bravo! Pick your weather gentlemen. Know your boat. I’ve seen em do it like that one day without a hitch and then try it the next only to end up mixing the resin. Still, great job Captain!
@@dm5374 In that particular boat the prop walk is usually to starboard, not port, which makes the move even more impressive. (We have a sister boat in our charter fleet)
A man with the "feel". Not many of us are like him. When you know how to manouver fat wooden boat with old school sliding clutch, in tight spaces, then everything is simple. I knew what he'll do, the moment I saw him alone on that boat.
Very well done and fluently, though it's not difficult in a new boat with fin keel and bowthruster (yes, he didn't use one). We did that in our half-keel Andromeda from 64 with 20t and no bowthruster. Granted, not as fast and easy, but nevertheless we did regularly in Greece.
Only just seen this video. Wow, most people can't even drive a car this accurately in one go. Impressed, i would like to see him do it in inferior weather though!
Pure ballet. No matter how many times it has been performed there are always external forces that will bite you in the arse if you get cocky. Buy than man a beer.
Beautiful! Not knowing the marina, I would have reversed all the way from the very start of the maneuver but still fascinating to watch.
hes done that millions of times, he knew exactly where he was going and what to do. even so, a great bit of piloting.
Almost zero wind and no current helped too. Still, he should still be commended for getting it right. It’s always a pleasure to see good seamanship.

What when the Wind comes...
I have been sailing full time for five years now but have never once docked as elegantly as that!
Visualize what he did....and you will get as good.

Very well done, perfect manueuver to turn the boat prior to berthing! Great, congratulations!
well, that was like ! I love it...look at the wind directions and feel it...
A pleasure to watch.
Nicely done! You sir, are a captain, skilled at the helm! The original drifting....

Cool- nice docking

Nicely leveraged the fact which direction the prop turns when working forward vs reverse
Or, nice use of prop walk!
Yves your richt, but with no wind its not.

It's cool to see people who know what they are doing. I bet he even knows how to tie a proper cleat hitch

Like a glove. For anyone who hasn't captained a boat, yes, that take a ton of skill.
Просто шедевр.
Great job skipper....would be a tad different with some side wind.😎😎
But I guess he would handle it too.
Did you not hear the wind ripping in the microphone? Not sure where it was coming from but didn't sound very light
Wow! Tough job!
Wonderful and without crew !!
You made it look easy

You're welcome.
He used bowthruster... Take a look at waves at port bow side when boat is nearly aligned
@@IngAndreaLuciani You are correct, he used a short burst of bow thruster. Haven't noticed it before.
