A video of the Mohlabetsi male lion coalition taken by one of the Pondoro Game Lodge guides during a wildlife safari drive early morning on the 27th of March 2016. Young male lions usually get chased away from the pride by their fathers sometime between reaching 2 -4 years of age. This usually happens as soon as their fathers start seeing them as a threat to their dominance. Life for these outcasts are extremely tough and few survive to adulthood. They live on the fringes of their natal pride’s territory evading the territorial male lions while trying to find food and fed themselves. This is an arduous task as hunting with very little hunting experience is hard and they often are not be in the best physical condition. Their chances of survival improve exponentially if accompanied by brothers or other young males of similar age. Coalitions are now formed and forged that will last for the rest of their lives. It is also the only time that young males will allow strangers to join their group as there is a direct correlation between the size and strength of the coalition. These young males will be big and strong enough to start looking at acquiring a territory of their own at about 5 years of age, if fortunate enough to survive that long. The Mohlabetsi male, who is the oldest male in this video, seems to have thrown the rule book out of the window with first splitting from this coalition brother Kudyela when he took control of the Mohlabetsi pride’s territory, while Kudyela got a territory and pride of his own further to the west. The Mohlabetsi male then allowed an unrelated young male lion of roughly 2 years old to stay with the Mohlabetsi pride and he eventually formed a coalition with this youngster. He then went a step further and seem to have allowed his own sons to stay as well, prolonging his reign as the differences in age amongst this male lion coalition should provide protection from rival males even he gets older. The elaborate greeting ceremony shown on this video of the lions rubbing their heads helps to reinforce the bond between the males and shows the affinity and goodwill that the bigger male have for his younger partners.
Lions tend to stay clear of humans esp one's holding guns, they ain't daft they know what they are. We're the greatest predators of all, cunning and intelligent, lions know this hence them not getting aggressive around us unless their protecting something ie pride/food.
Male lions are way more resourceful to me. While trying to steak their own claim they’ll combine forces to form coalitions. They’ll also be pretty respectful when regarding females(in many cases). Evidence also shows they’re fairly good hunters when they need to be. A coalition of male lions is probably the most badass grouping of any animal!
Really? So if 6 bull elephant's came upon these Coalition of six male lions, they would be badass enough to take out the Elephants? If 6 angry rhinos rolled up on a Coalition of six male lions, do you think that coalition will hold its ground? There not even the most badass amongst there own land. They are opportunist that take advantage of the weak. I like them as well, but be realistic. Put 6 big male Lions in closed in setting with 6 bulls and you will find out quickly how Petrified those Big 6 make lions become. Looking for escape while those 6 bulls turn there pure anger and power on a cowering Lion. There's video of a big male lion and a bull in a enclosure.
Johnny Dwyer I don’t follow your point. It’s a fact that there are prides that hunt elephants. It Depends on the size of the pride and usually happens at night.
Johnny Dwyer it’s not 6 on 6 either this isn’t a sports contest of scoring what does holding ground accomplish. It’s a pride vs herds of thousands to millions of animals. It’s a buffet
The seniors , one in the front and the other the last and in between are the youngsters very well protected. Isn't that the sequence we follow while walking through forest.
That full mane male didn't look much bigger than those 2 year olds. I'm thinking this is a very young Coalition of six. Hope someone decides to follow these young males so we can get a great story years away as we did with the mahpogos
seems like, the adulr males where exiled from the pride through a pride take over. and running into their male cubs. whatever the case maybe they seem like they haven't eaten in days.
This coalition looks like two sets of cubs from two sisters, which make them cousins. The younger ones are siblings as well as the older ones are siblings. It's likely they were forced out during a take over. Mom would keep cubs around longer than two years to help to hunt if the pride is small. However, once a new male arrives, they will chase them out.
They come together to ensure their survival and protect their pride. Whenever Male lions have to form a coalition, there's a serious threat from other Male rivals. Usually the Male Lions spends a grave amount on time protecting his pride alone or with another Male lion, but to form a band means war.
You can tell who the leader is now. But he may have trouble remaining dominate. His brothers are probably a year younger than him and they are already as big as he is. They are going to be big boys and one of them may challenge him for head of the coalition once they are fully grown. Do you have any newer videos on these boys?
a combination of young ones n mature ones..this coalition may last forever coz as the mature ones get old the young ones will be at their prime if they stick together n maintain harmony..i see a loooong future
Instinctively, they respect man's advantage over them: weapons they can't fight! It doesn't have any sense to them risk injury or death; impalas, zebras, buffaloes are by far, less risky than "homans"
@@creatorlight4346 They can see in the dark but not in a vehicle? I just would be comfortable in vehicle with windows and a roof, not be exposed, just in case you are too close to their babies where even ducks are aggressive.
Don't these Lions sometimes look like they're just bored to death? Sometimes they look really really really tired and then other times they look all happy and ready to go
Older brother yes, father nope, the father was with their mothers banging them and having more kids and protecting the territory, or, was killed by another lion or coalition of lions, those guys were kicked out the pride and territory they were born in.

Those youngsters are quite lucky to be teamed up with the big boys.
No the big boys are lucky to be teamed up with the young boys.
Several limps. These male lions have such a tough life, but a fulfilling one. Extraordinary animals.
That is a magnificent sight. The old one looked like he was hobbling.

waow , very interesting , every nowand then you get an exceptional lion , this is one of them cases ,
Form what I am observing these lions and lionesses regularly throw out the text book expectations which why I continue following them.
No way would I be in an open vehicle with those animals that close, I'm sure it's an awesome thing but I wouldn't want to be that small statistic

Reminds me of Makhulu and The Mapogos. One older sibling mentoring the younger brothers.
The Mapogos were bad ass!
How many males are they
Ma. Fra Makhulu was the oldest out of the 6 males well 6 including makhulu he was the biggest out of all them had a dark mane and yeah basically alpha

My type of crew that I'll roll with 😆😎

How many HOW MANYYYYYYY OF THEMMM like 6 young lion and 2 old strong male????
What is with these coalition names? They don't always have to start with the letter M or be some sort of location like a town, rd, or river.
But they are so beautiful ❤️

I will never understand how these lions wouldn't jump on passengers while they are openly exposed like in a Safari.
The Stork 2 they don’t recognize people like that, the vehicle hides them, so they think the entire vehicle is a thing including people.

At first they look weak and emaciated but when if they they began fighting each muscle is becoming strong and activated
Man the goosebumps when the big male walks past the car is fucking amazing hes such a beast 2:59
