This female lionesses aren't to be messed with especially in large groups, they are hunters and they can take down a buffalo. The male lion knows the risk since he is alone.

When new males take a pride over they will inevitably kill the cubs, the lionesses will accept the new pride males and the cubs will be eliminated
People who say that lions eat their prey whole it's alive probably have seen something like this and got their panties in a twist. Lions just have to wait for a good moment to kill and in the meantime have to hold it down.
