This is probably the best video I’ve seen that displays how most of these buffaloes are truly taken down; not by dragging them to the ground and biting them until they bleed out but by choking them.
    -buffalo screams as lion attacks
    -lion bites neck
-screaming stops because it physically cannot due to windpipe being clamped off
-lion adjusts grip and for a split second you hear the buffalo gasp
-buffalo is trying to breathe and scream through all this but literally cannot
-buffalo soon collapses and eyes roll back as it passes out
-gasping reflex kicks in and you see the mouth gaping open and tongue curling
-the last of the body’s strength is spent reflexively kicking in a final attempt to escape
-lion keeps grip on throat to completely suffocate buffalo
The scream getting cut off and the buffalo straining to breathe but being unable to through all this is crazy. It’s probably not even too painful; less puncturing teeth and more sheer crushing force.

Ahhh but you see, us humans, we don't need to do it that way ( play the lion's game), we are not built for it. We do what we are built for and that's endurance running. We force them to play to our strengths by chasing them the whole day not giving them a chance to rest and replenish their energy ( The bigger they are, the more energy they use to run) until they collapse and it is an easy job for the catching hunting relay team members armed with sharp rock knives/spears to release the lifeblood from there. You see back then and even today in some parts of the world, humans were/are not couch potatoes, fit humans can run for hours on end (yes, at a slow pace, but easy does it), chasing animals towards an awaiting team to hand over to, to continue the chase!

Lionesses are opportunistic killers. They'll go for the smallest weakest target, but lions like to go for the big kill in an attempt to prove themselves. However, lions don't have the speed and stamina that lionesses do. So they need to get close enough to their prey so that can launch an ambush.
