    On the cars with fuel injection, there is also a bleeder screw on the thermostat housing that should also be loosened before filling, and of course tightened when coolant makes it up to that point.
    An airflift vacuum fill system works like a champ on these cars.

    Aussie company Davies Craig make awesome fans that are light and shift high volumes if air. There’s a video by Rev Tec (or Rev Tech?) that shows one being fitted to an X1/9, mounted to the radiator frame and not through the fins, that you might find informative.

    Good stuff! Doing a similar job on my 1982 X1/9 right now. Are you also replacing the thermostat and water pump "while you're in there"? My project started with installing Vic's exhaust header, rebuilding fuel injectors and replacing 40 yr old fuel lines. Then figured "while it's up in the air" might as well replace the coolant hoses, and radiator, and and and... great little car deserves it. Cheers!
