- Embark on a journey of automotive nostalgia as I reluctantly bid farewell to the thunderous symphony of my X 1/9's stainless exhaust. Witness the unraveling of a passionate modification as I make the somber decision to revert to the stock exhaust system. The once roaring soundtrack of my ride transforms into silence, echoing regret and a touch of sorrow. Join me in reflecting on the reasons behind this emotional shift and the bittersweet process of undoing a modification that once defined the soulful personality of my beloved X 1/9!

You are a nicer man than I. We would have been on the horn with Vick's ordering the largest and loudest exhaust they had. Some nerve to think they can control not only your house but also your car when not even in the neighborhood. 🤬
Ya well… I want to have peace with the neighbors. Sometimes you have to know when to play nice! Luckily, we can always go back when we upgrade the shop in the future!
@@GarageTimeTV Hope the shop happens quickly. HOAs are the worst thing for home owners' rights. Watch your neighbors and hold them to the letter. If they want to play then they must also play by the rules and they never do so.
An inclined plane with a helical thread-you to your neighbours! What a sanctimonious bunch of w⚓️s!!
It sounds great with the factory exhaust, good work.
I knew some people would like it!
Agreed. I always thought the stainless was too noisy. Ideally you want something halfway between but the stock is definitely better
The x1/9 is a small sporty car, the less loud exhaust matches the character better than the overly aggressive exhaust before
HOA: Homeowner Oppression Agency.
So sorry bro! Someday you'll be able to sneak it back in.
I'm sorry to all for messing up the "Christmas Story" joke. I was REALLY tired that day.
It's a shame the local Karen was such a spoilsport over something that obviously brought you joy. That said, I always left the stock exhaust on my X1/9s. The headers do make a beautiful noise, but the interior is so intimate with the engine that after an hour of droning at highways speeds, it becomes just noise.
That’s a good point. So far, I’ve been enjoying it! I still feel connected to the car so it’s not all bad
Glad i dont live next to you!!!!!
Why I’ll never live in a HOA
One day it’s going to change!
Hi, why not just remove the exhaust muffler and just install the original to the header?, Thanks for your channel.
Not a bad idea actually. I could have done that. I appreciate you watching!
I would have left in the header, and gotten rid of the fart box muffler. That would provide a little more performance and have it not sound like a ricer.
Hey man I’ve just recently found your channel because of these x19 videos… no one posts enough about them, anyway I’ve got a question, I’ve recently inherited a 89 x19 and I plan on lowering the car and putting some 15 inch wheels on, did you have to roll the guards at all? Also would love to see more videos of this thing being on the road driving!! Thanks
I did have to roll a little bit at the ends, but I have 205/50 tires. If you ran 195/45 you’d clear
@@GarageTimeTV sweet thank you for the help man
@@RubenWinchester of course!
If you want to lower the car, fitting 15" rims has the opposite effect, plus increases inertia and requires lower profile tyres that further degrade ride (on decent tarmac).
The OE tyres were 70's if you get 55's on, you've already lowered the car (on the sidewall) you can then lower the floor relative to the ground, on the struts.
Coilivers will allow you to tune the overall ride height to the wheel and tyre combination you're using, and allow you to set camber, in this case it's wiggle bolts (cambolts) that cannot hold position when the car is airborne when the suspension is on full drop.
So you need a little 50 lb/ inch flat section 'helper spring' on top of the mainspring to stop it dislocating.
I currently have this setup on mine (Gaz 2-way adjustable) and I plan to change them idc.
Once you have determined the approximate camber angle, the strut to hub carrier bolts should be like the original - 2x through bolts lock the strut tube to the carrier so it cannot move.
The fine tuning of the camber angle can then be made at the top of the strut, but requires camber plates to be fitted and struts with compatible top mounts, available from Di Fulvio Racing or Polini Racing (Italy).
@@markbowden7238 cool man thanks for the info, it’ll come helpful further down the road once I’m ready to do stuff to it, helpful info though have a good one mate
yeah, pretty big job... my stock system came out realtively easily, much more room without AC compressor and with intake manifold removed (to replace fuel injectors and all fuel hoses underneath). I went with the Vic's headers and stock muffler combo - early 1300 version is bolt on. Where in TX are you? Would be neat to get our X's together sometime. I'm in NW Houston area. cheers!
If you’re in the Houston area, join the gulf coast fiat group. I’m in that one
What header do you have that you can run an ac compressor with out interference? Vickauto?
Yes! The headers from Vicks cleared for the AC compressor.
This reminds me why I got rid of my X1/9. It was loud and hot and claustrophobic and gave me headaches. I could only drive it when it was cold and dry enough to remove the top and not get a sun stroke.
And the moral of the story is HOA's suck.
Hoa are a pain
