David Camm was a trooper with the Indiana State Police for 10 years. Six months after he left, he came home one night to a horrific scene. And so, began 13 long years for David Camm and a man named Charles Boney, who says he was framed by David Camm.

The 911 call is pretty evident to me he wasn’t guilty. He didn’t give an alibi, explain the story, or how he found his family. He just screamed for help. To me, that’s a genuine call. A genuinely upset and heartbroken father.
Exactly - he is not trying to explain anything, anywhere, any time - just screaming for help....listening to other 911 calls in other cases (where culprit calls) the difference is extreme.

A lot of true crime cases can be solved just be getting inside the killers head and looking at things from their prospective! You are my kind of thinker!!!

Cops likely knew he cheated on her, left his family and lived with someone else. They kinda had to look at him hard. If anything the forensics experts really messed up

@@alljello3880 'Messed up' is a pretty massive understatement. He lost his job, home, reputation, dignity, and 13 years of his life right after stumbling up on the murder scene of his family. If I were him I'd sue the hell out of the people who basically stole what was left of my life.

Just saw another video of mikes where another cop was immediately thought of as the suspect. Professed his innocence for years, got charged and spent a year in prison just to find out it was an old man that thought he got away with it and tried to abduct another kid. Cops are getting so bad not even other cops are safe
That's the saddest most accurate statement. All the court appointed lawyers I've seen are a joke. The one lawyer i ever needed and actually paid was an idiot too. You have to find good lawyers who aren't friends with everyone at court trying to find a happy medium to make everyone happy.. the facts of the case should always trump eyewitnesses. Jurys need to understand what without a reasonable doubt actually means....
Remember, this is how law enforcement treats one of their own. Imagine how little they care for the rest of us.
When I am not committing crimes, I've always been treated well. Hell, cops giving us ride homes when we are responsibly walking home after drinking, tracking down my stolen property, etc. but then again, that's small town shit.

they had the killer's sweater the entire time, and the killer's DNA was in the system! fucking unreal. my heart breaks for this guy.
Right? And they tried to say that they weren’t focusing on just him yet... Charles Bonay’s name never came up because they didn’t run the palm print or test the DNA from the sweatshirt... Seems like tunnel vision to me.
Not even that, they had this sweat shirt with a unknown persons dna and totally dismissed it!!! I bet you that day they made up their minds (the cops) that he did it. Unfortunately nobody is innocent until proven guilty because the POS DAs out there can say and make up anything they please. It’s wrong and the entire “justice” system from police to judge needs a makeover. Imagine how many innocent people are in prison or have been put to death.
@@Sharkfighter13 it's a fucked up world out there and if I would guess the percentage of people innocent of crimes that were just at the wrong place at the wrong time is about 70% of their convictions because I myself have almost gone down for something serious not murder but child abuse something I never did. My girlfriends kid who at the time was sleeping on the floor of the room we rented from one of her friends at the time had gotten what looked like a lighter burn under his chin and I can say it did look like a lighter burn to me an everyone that looked at it. Well once it was discovered I thought one of her friends that we were living with must have done it because i know i didnt and he slept on the floor next to one of those huge cast iron old school heaters i thought maybe he put his chin on it because it got really really hot but the mark was v shaped kinda like a bic lighter. But while I was at work the next day the cops show up because my old ladys mom said her kid said I took a lighter to him so the cops came to my work while I was working mind you and asked for a statement I told them all I knew and what I thought could have caused it they wrote it down and told me to find another place to stay untill the case is resolved so I got kicked out of my place and we had just had twins born at the time also so it was tough. Well my girl takes the kid to the doctor and they end up finding out it was impetigo on his chin a fungus from not washing him correctly not a burn so the doctor writes a letter confirming I didn't do anything. Well she takes said letter to the police and they dont wanna hear it lol they said I did it and they know I did it because I was acting nervous and sweating while they questioned me in the middle of fucking work lol. Well the first court date ends up coming and i have to appear even thou it's kinda been resolved so i show up and the judge asks me why I dont have a lawyer and dont want one and I said because I know the truth and I know I didn't do It. You know what the fucking judge said to me lol "in this courtroom the truth doesn't always set you free". I'll never forget it but the docs letter finally got to them and they dropped it lol so this is one story that will tell you the justice system in this country is fucked lol. I'm also a white male was around 22 23 at the time and the state was Vermont one of the whitest states you can live in. It's not a race issue in my opinion it's a to much power going to someone's head issue with no accountability. But it's scary that If she never went to the doctors i could just be getting out of jail right now lol. Crazy world we live in huh?
Josh Rayborn omg I’m so sorry that happened to you. Someone very close to me went through something very similar. His ex wanted full custody of the kid so she made the kid lie about being sexually abused. He was charged with a $100,000 bond! We got him out. And we fought like hell to save him! After 7 DAs, yes 7 ( because they all knew it was a bullshit case and a lie so they didn’t want to lose) all the charges were finally dropped! After everything it was almost $150,000! Fortunately he had family and his own money to fight! But what about all these men charged with the same shit but don’t have the $!? Our justice system is flawed and bogus! I feel for anyone charged with anything because the cops, DA, and judge can do and say whatever the please.

This case has always drove me insane. That poor man lost his wife and children, found them dead and then was in jail for 13 years for it when it was clear it wasn’t him. Heartbreaking for him
I always KNEW he was innocent. This was a terrible case of injustice.
I keep having to remind myself he spent 13 years, YEARS, in prison. It's so shocking and then he's having to sue for false arrest, there's not an amount large enough. The bloody prosecution and police DEPT should be investigated for downright negligence. For example, sending off the 'wrong' DNA sample. There should at Least be sackings. Poor man. GodBless him.

You’ve covered some pretty evil killers but this is the first time I’ve thought from the start…this guy is innocent. I can’t believe he was betrayed by so many people and went through all that, on top of the grief and having those last images of his family 😢

What you’re referring to isn’t relevant in a trial for a reason, it’s completely unreliable to try and use body language or behavior to prove guilt or innocence. No matter how he behaved, a person can twist it into looking guilty or find a way to explain how it’s a reflection of guilt.
You’re not a Psychologist, body language expert or any kind of forensics analyst.
I can't imagine a bigger nightmare than what David Camm went through.

As much as I want to blame them, I believe that they believed he actually did it. And while it's messed up that they were close, it's somewhat refreshing that they still pushed for what they believed was justice - despite their complete incompetence. The prosecution on the other hand... irredeemably disgusting.

The shitty police work is formidable, but I do respect them a TEENY bit on one hand for being willing to pursue the investigation against him without being clouded by that shitty *brothers in blue* bullshit. They're just bad cops who don't know how to do their jobs though apparently.

Not much of an alibi really, as he hired a guy to actually do the deed and kill his family, so made sure he wasn't there at the time but was with witnesses who could vouch for him. What better than taking part in a team sport? This is a textbook spousal murder - life insurance on the wife and infidelity, it has all the motives in place! That poor woman's mother knew her former son in law was capable of killing her daughter and grandkids, and she knows he got away with it. Horrendous!

Dear Gods, the grief in his voice on the 9-1-1 call hurts my heart so much.
Also, as an officer, he REALLY should have had a lawyer with him.
He thought these guys were his colleagues and friends.
He knew he didn't do it. He assumed they believed in him. He never saw it coming. This one is really sad.
He trusted those assholes. And being a cop, he knew that if he called a lawyer first thing they would assume he was guilty. So heartbreaking.
These stories of people being wrongfully accused are almost more horrifying than the ones about actual criminals.

That’s because most of us relate to the accused more than the others. To be found guilt of murder and go to prison we know it can’t happen unless we kill someone so it’s all good. But if someone can go to prison for 13yrs falsely accused it means it could happen tomorrow to everyone watching this

You guys are all forgetting one crucial fact about her that makes her innocent no matter what in America.. She's female... duh even IF they proved 100% beyond a reasonable doubt that she IS guilty, they'd lock her up for 10 to 12 minutes then let her out, give her a few million dollars and probably a talk show or podcast... think before you talk, you all sound silly, or as Americans put it "sexist" ...

This one hit hard!! I hardly have any words.. What a horrific experience that must've been.. 13 years in prison, loss of his entire family and his friends, and now has people that probably still think he's guilty (so his reputation is in the shitter too).. That first 911 call is heartbreaking. That is a helpless, broken man.
This was the first time I heard a 911 call and thought immediately that the caller had nothing to do with it

@@Nola504Nola No. They really don't. That call was legit. There's just no way that was *rehearsed. You can't rehearse replies to things you don't know will be said. You can't rehearse instant reactions to things that haven't been said. When the dispatcher said "everything will be all right", the hurt, fear and sense of betrayal in his instant reply was as genuine as anything that's ever been uttered. Let's not even mention that there is no evidence that he and the real killer had ever met. They even interviewed the men he played ball with and none of them had ever met Boney either. Boney claims he became friends with Camm playing basketball at the gym but the guys that he actually played with all the time had never seen or heard of Boney either. This case was criminally mishandled. I believe intentionally.

They're more focused on "what makes me look less guilty" (because that's the point of the phone call) rather than "what's the most realistic response to this situation" (because obviously the most realistic response to that situation would get them caught.)

Yeah he sounds like a guy who's just found his family dead in the call and when he's talking to the investigators like "no no no no no we are getting off track" he sounds like a guy who is trying to figure out what happened to his family.

This is one of those stories that breaks your hearts. He lost essentially two families. His wife and kids and his cop family.
I think I really can tell by listening that David Camm was legitimately shocked and horrified. You can hear it in the breaks in his voice up in the high tenor range. People who are faking it don't hit that kind of note, and his voice breaks because his throat is literally locking up with trauma. You know those dreams you have where you want to scream but you can't make any noise? Well that really happens. How terrifying is that?
If he is guilty, he deserves an academy award. I've never heard such a harrowing call than that he made to the Police.

Just goes to show how stupid and lazy some investigators are. They walk around with tunnel vision and fit the evidence to their theory rather than following the leads. Shameful and sad. Happens far too often.
Emotion trumps memory
If David committed the murders and he didn't want to go to prison for it, he would act very convincingly because his life depended on it. I'm sure he rehearsed many times before making that call. David still could be the murderer, make no mistake.

I usually don’t cry from 911 calls. That hit me hard. I can’t imagine that man’s pain. I pictured my husband and kids. Just wow. The feeling of betrayal in this case and my family gone. This is one strong. His friends who were his family. Good gods..

What a crazy story to think this guy lost everything and after being proven innocent, people still think he’s guilty including his wife’s family.
That's the problem with any news being able to be worldwide. First people remember a first impression or the first shocking things they read they don't remember any follow ups. Second if you tell someone something they'll always think atleast a little that it's true even when it's might not be
Wow, that was twisted tail. Kind of surprised his supposed friends didn't run that sweatshirt for DNA immediately. With friends like that, who needs enemies? I could tell by the 911 call he didn't do it.
Yeah that call felt absolutely genuine and its bs how everything went down. They got one incorrect report of what time the shots occurred from a witness and then they just railroad him. Instead of looking for actual evidence they are only looking for things that will convict him regardless if he did it or not. There is no excuse in the world as to why they didn't find Charles DNA on the victims, the vehicle, the victims clothing, and his own shirt during the initial investigation... Then lying and saying they tested the shirt and stated it came back with no match is absolutely corruption! They either didn't bother testing it because they knew David committed the crime or they did test it and it came back as somebody other than David so they destroyed the evidence. That's my guess at least.....

I knew from that he was innocent. I’ve listened to thousands of 911 calls on investigations. This was as authentic as they come.

The fact that his wife's mom doesn't even believe him breaks my heart. I can't imagine how that must feel to have your own in-law not believe you despite the overwhelming evidence proving you innocent.

Unfortunately, people don't always get the full picture in cases like these, can't really blame her with the prosecutor being a lying piece of shit, and using faulty evidence.

They did not want to admit that David was innocent so they believed Charles' false story about him being there when David killed his family. It is scary to think that any of us can wind up in prison for a crime we did not commit.
Rather than admit they were wrong; they wanted to cover up their mistake. So they put a man through 13 years of hell, believed a known serial sexual criminal over a former colleague, ignored obvious evidence that pointed to David being innocent, made up stories that made no sense, flat out didn’t do their jobs, and put him through three fuckin trials. Only to be found out in the end and disciplined anyway. Like?????
@@WaddupItsYaBoi It's awful but it's reality. The term innocent until guilty is exactly that; a term, not a reality of even an ideal they strive for. If you're a prosecutor your job to pin the crime on whoever you can; innocent or guilty. If you're a defense lawyer your job is to get someone off or a reduced sentence even if you know they're guilty. If you're a judge you might be biased, influenced, bribed etc.
It's in the interests of their careers and it's also what pays the bills and much more for them. In short the system isn't going to change anytime soon. At least as far as I can see. I wish things were different but it was the case even as far back as the Roman Empire/Republic.

This is more common than many people are willing to consider. In many of these types of cases, once the DA has fixated on the supposed perpetrator, anything else is considered a threat to their career, status, and so on.
I cannot imagine losing your family, kids and all, and being convicted of these crimes! WTF? This really made me feel frustrated! So so so sad all around!

Because that’s their job? To JR, it really depends from person to person, but there are still obvious tells like if you’re obviously acting (alligator tears, faking trauma etc) those things are extremely hard to fake (not even the best actors could pull off 100% believable scene of showing grief or extreme trauma). For me, personally, (not that you would be interested) cry when I used to be falsely accused of something I haven’t been falsely accused of anything lately (thank goodness) but I’d imagine I’d do the exact same thing if someone came to me and said I did something I did not do.

Being murdered is usually pretty quick. Being wrongly prosecuted is a slow and torturous process. Knowing there's almost nothing you can do when telling the truth doesn't stop them.

Seriously, this is nothing new, especially if people know about American history and how they treated African Americans and were so eager to put them in prison for the smallest offense and also out right false offenses. The youngest INNOCENT person, a boy, to be executed in America was an African American named George Junius Stinney Jr., and his conviction just got overturned in 2014... Disgusting but it was the norm. Lastly, the investigative procedures were different back then in general, and crimes were harder to solve, so a major part of evidence was he said she said. So yeah again nothing new but it's sad that it continues.
