Wait so all these years police were actually capable of arresting people who made death threats online
Yeah. Most of the time they only expend their efforts on *truly* important people, not the unimportant rabble.
Yeah but only when its one of their own people. Otherwise they don't give af. Why you think swatters never get arrested?
Yeah, but effectively really only when such threats are directed against police officers (a sheriff, in this case), or politicians or big donators to the police force. I _wish_ they would treat other incidents with the same severity instead of letting so many just go unanswered and leaving so many people unprotected or actively endangered, but that's why the "acab" phrase is popular.
Edit: I have a goldfish brain and forgot what title Chitwood had on the police force, despite hearing it in the video 10 minutes ago, whoops
Death threats anywhere have always been illegal. The difference is if it is clearly intended in a game or not.
This guy threatened a police officer, who does not currently exist in the minecraft game. Therefore, the tag on of "in minecraft" is not applicable, and it can be assumed it was a real-world threat or, at the very least, inciting hate in the real world. In fact, because it is inciting hate, it will probably be elevated to a class 3 crime with 7 months jail time like all the other misdemeanours such as the graffiti and littering.
@@RevelationOne Generally I'd agree but I'd honestly expect a swatter to be well prepared, while a 4chan Anon probably didn't even think he was commiting a crime so he wasn't.
Let me get this straight. So if it's directed at regular people, cops can never seem to find fucks to give about harassment online, but if it's their precious sheriff, they addressed the problem IMMEDIATELY. Yep. Sounds legit.
Wrong , I know someone who got arrested and booked for for threatening to fight another person
Stop taking meme legal advice from idiot streamers

Like the front doors locked from the outside and the door to the room the shooter was in was unlocked. They could have stopped him at any point. The fact it took over an hour shows the cops were nothing more than cowards.
No they still care about protecting people, not as much as their own but it's ridiculous to say that they don't care about the people at all lol
The problem isn't that you can be arrested for threats in this level, it's that they don't offer this equally across the board. Only matters when it's someone they care about.
Tim Pool was swatted NINE TIMES. Dude had lunatics walk on his property... NOT ONE ARREST. The FBI wouldn't even help him. Cops found this guy in Jersey no problem......That's Effed

Well said! I think you caught the scope of the bill particularly well
This is why hate crimes are bogus at the core, if someone does something illegal like threatening someone with violence you arrest them and they have appropriate charges brought against them. Hate crimes assume intent for the crime committed and are often used to apply extra punishment not equivalent to the crime committed. Harassment is harassment, the idea that certain types of verbal harassment should warrant felony charges that can permanently ruin someone's life isn't proportionate to the crime committed, which is arguably as big an injustice as the harassment itself, if not more so.
@@mastertroll6744 it is weird to separate crimes into categories that basically boil down to "you can beat up white people, but nobody else"
@@mastertroll6744 I do think it's good in some scenarios, like was this a fist fight cause he was annoyed at this guy, or was this a fistfight because he hates black people? But adding more time onto the sentence is weird. It should be categorical, but should change punishment.
Mike came in with the heat. 😂
well that prediction went well.
cant believe the cops did a "ladies and gentlemen, we got him" bit on a 4chan user
oh hi acerola
can't wait for your next video
I was harrased from my stream and any other stream I hung out in for weeks. They were sending death threats and everything. I called the police to see what my options were. I had none. Without them making very specific threats including the method and when it would occur I was told they would do nothing. This all spurred from my wife and I streaming a battle royale game. We were always super positive. I still have no idea who it was or why they decided to target us.
That sucks. I steer clear of any game that has battle royale marketing. The games just aren't fun for me. Try some indie co-op games like Phasmophobia, Valheim, V-Rising or Sons of the forest. The people are better and the games are better, in my opinion
Some bored 34 year old virgin living rent free at his mom's attic who thought it was funny no doubt.
@@OligoST Battle royales were only fun when they had an H a Z and two 1's in the name. Then just like any person or company full of avarice decided to hop on the gold train and start making their own. We went from everyone having the same loadouts and skill being displayed through gunplay, to beyond way too much shit that can be randomized on the ground on top of going from some casual fun to zoomer-competitive-sweat sit in a corner till the last circle or sit in a corner and wait till you hear a gunshot and 3rd party while saying, "A win's a win :)" with only 1 kill. Thank god I dodged a bullet dipping out of the BR scene in season 1 Fortnite when everyone started to realize they could build higher than just a basic wall+ramp for cover.
@@OligoST Thanks for the suggestions. When we get back to streaming we'll have to check these out. Since this happened we have just been focusing on YT content instead. It's going much better than streaming ever did for us.
I'd wager you just beat one of the dude, and he saw you had a wife making him jealous lol
Thanks for the warning
Legally enforced niceness
That's crazy that this is nothing compared to what I reported and the Etown Pa police officer and 911 operator refused, interesting how selective police always are to the people they "protect"
What did you report?
I had people throwing molotov cocktails into my building on two separate occasions, over 40 calls to police in the span of a few months for different activities by a drug dealer in our building, and they wrote TWO reports (no arrests).
Sheriff McFeeling's feelings get hurt by 4chan post and suddenly the full power of the law is thrown behind it. It's just embarrassing for that sheriff. Like I'd be so ashamed to have a childish outburst like that
Welcome to Capitalism where your money determines your worth as a human being. Not rich? Second-class citizen, right over there sir.
@@3Dyler connections are worth more than money in this case. Economics really don’t have anything to do with it, this is just misuse of elected authority.
police aren’t a homogeneous force. Overall this is a good thing but should be considered more widely across the field
So sheriffs are protected now and get their problems solved. Meanwhile any normal citizen with an actual stalker pursuing and threatening them will continue to be ignored.
And not only that, I can imagine the police abusing this by faking data to get people either arrested or killed...
It's something they have done in the past, they just need a good excuse and a broken law that makes it so you can't easily prove your innocence against a false claim
The powers of having power
Average justice system
What do you mean "now"?
DING DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER!
Finally, something to make people think twice before they spill shit online, I've not ever wished death upon someone for something so little.
When he said "4chan troll" that was motivated by hate 5 more years in jail.
I can get behind encouraging people to be nicer. I can't get behind police authorities abusing their power to force people to act nicer. The way the sheriff gloated about it and absolutely dragged this man, who wasn't the best of people however seemed more in need of help than being arrested and charged, through the mud. Telling about his character.
Right. Like the clip at 2:25 seriously gives me chills. Sounds like he would like to implement a thought police to get rid of everybody thinking different form the mainstream.
I love how even cops are getting involved in Twitter drama now 😂
Theyre trying to turn around their bad pr... but in classic twitter fashion theyre going to just overcorrect the problem. Gonna see a lot of white teens getting shot by cops in the street. Im joking
and not gonna lie Mike Chitwood threw heat ong
Lol Twitter people and 4chan users probably do need to go to a correctional facility in RP
You love? You excited for when the cops arrest you for something you said as a joke online and meme about it on Twitter?
@@yourmomsboyfriend3337 ahh yes the good old joking death threads
"Hate speech" as a crime isn't a thing in the US, free speech protects against that. Direct threats or a call to action however is illegal and that's why that guy got arrested. So the beginning bit with the whole "hateful intent = 3 years in prison" is just a bs threat as long as it doesn't fall in those two categories.
glad i live in nc and don't have to deal with shit like this
The worst part of this story is the poor soul has to be transported to Florida
America's armpit (aka NJ) is notably worse
As a new jersey resident, I can say that I would much rather be in Florida
Florida is an incredible state, I've vacationed there several times.
California, however, is a toxic cesspool.
@@solomongadeloff3872 As someone who lives in Florida, all the New Jersians are already here..
I don't understand why he was transferred to Florida if he committed the crime while in NJ? Doesn't the location of the crime matter?
I did realise "hurt a softcock police officer's feelings" was a criminal offence.
Oh that's the biggest one you gotta watch out for.
You see you have to be very careful when it comes to the language you use.
For example, I think we should murder this cop is illegal to state;
However what you can say is: I hope the cops life gets snuffed out
The difference is statement one calls for action while statement 2 only shows your disgust for the cop.
This is why paying attention English class is important!
They take threats on the life of government officials very seriously, even if it is obviously not a real threat or a joke. This reminds me of the guy who said if he got 100 retweets he would kill the president

imagine if we spent half the time working on the mental health of our veterans and citizens in our country as we did protecting our rulers feelings there would almost never be another mass shooting in a school or someone driving a van through a Christmas parade full of elderly and children
There is no such thing as a hate crime. Tf.
What.. are you joking?
This is really scary... That they take these actions only because it affected a police officer but not common people...
Could this be a attempt to scare people trying to stop making threats?
no cause that would be tyrannical right?
Exactly, this happens to so many people constantly but it's such a bigger deal if it's an officer 🙄
Tbf it is kinda very important that he's a police officer not because of his job but because he's going to be enforcing these new laws that people want to kill him over. It makes the threat actually a serious real danger and a problem, since it is much more likely than your average 4chan post to turn into a reality
its an attempt at controlling people. the idea of jailing people for WORDS is ridiculous and hard to do because you're gunna have to arrest A LOT of people ALL THE TIME. nothing like people being in jail for saying words while legit criminals are on the loose still like murders and raepists. its just like communist russia when stalin was in charge. you say one wrong thing and he send you to the gulag or worse, his fuggin cannibal island. a woman was able to escape it once and when she got free and found a place to stay, her leg had bites taken out of it. from the prison island from people trying to eat her alive. and no im not joking, this can easily happen to america but people dont believe it and yet its slowly happening in front of our eyes.
It's not that ridiculous if you imagine the guy being there saying it to his face. The scary part of it is the illusion of anonymity that people have on the internet. It's not real, and yeah, they can find you. So don't say something on line that you wouldn't say IRL, because in 2023, there's no difference anymore.
the fact that they wouldn't give a shit about a regular person, but when its their butthurt sheriff who can't take jokes and literally is the definition of a loser, they immediately catch him. Sounds like a great force that should be protecting us smh
The gov is full of double standard cowards. This big bad sheriff was _that_ scared of a greasy 4chan user's threat that he had to have them arrested across state lines to feel safe. Since when the hell has someone been extradited to a different state at the will of some random fuckin sheriff? This country is virtually a police state.
I mean saying the sherif needs to be shot in the head isn't exactly a "joke"
How the hell is “can someone shoot him in the back of the head” a joke? I mean I understand where people are coming from with this but come on

Hopefully with this new law coming they'll be able to do it with regular people and not just when it's against police.
It's freaking scary out there. There's people out there who read this stuff take it too seriously and actually go do it. People rally and get stirred up and dangerous over it. It shouldn't be written in the first place as it's an awful feeling to experience reading, if you wouldn't say it in front of somebody in real life then don't do it.
Hopefully this can stop the swatt calls being happening on streamers (although something should have stopped it anyways over a false call)
This guy was not only in a different county but a different state so the case will probably be thrown out.
So when a police officer get's a threat they act immediately but when other people get threats they just say "Well we can't do anything about it" or it takes them 500 years to do something
TRUE!!!!
yep
yeeeep. I had a friend who's ex was threatening to kill her and harassing her until she ended up moving several counties over, because the police said he hadn't done anything yet :)))) surely voice notes and texts with threats of violence would constitute "something" but they didn't care
what? you do realize its because, its an actual crime? threatening a police officer? i saw another comment like this, how do you guys not understand? im genuinely confused because i thought we were all taught this in school, at least i was.
Unfortunately, that has always been the case.
Feels like abuse of power to have all those guys focus on helping the powerful police guy when they generally don’t apply near the same effort to protecting regular people (similar to what someone else said)
I agree, the amount of police resources used to get a random guy who said something mean online, seems like a waste of the people's money. Just the number of officers they sent over was insane, when those officers could have been doing actual work, to help actual people. Like you said, abuse of power
New satirical threats will have to be more detailed than my lawyers countering everything the genie says againsts my three wishes
All guys group chats: drenched in sweat, taking a sip of coffee
The thing with hate crime is that the goalposts on what constitutes as hate can be shifted at any time. Something to be very careful about.
Yeah it's such crap.
In my experience, without fail, every single person to say something to this effect is a worthless piece of shit
And yet if someone is stalking you, the police won’t do shit until your stalker actually tries to kill you and that’s a MAYBE.
the arrest is a violation of the 1st amendment, killing your stalker with a firearm if threatened is a constitutional right under the 2nd. i would argue this is also an example of violation of the 4th, if indeed a violation of the 1st. unrightful seizure. no probable cause except the cops fragile ego.
@@Hi98765 not everyone would want to kill a person when it could easily be prevented if only the peace keepers kept the peace.
@Awesome the peace keepers are violating the rights. There's no bill of rights for online speech so why not use the constitution for American citizens until then
