I subscribed as soon as you said you were just listening to the beauty of the language and music instead of getting hung up on translations or wasting your life wondering why it doesn’t have more English. I added that last part, but I know you were thinking it.💪🏻🤘🏻

Other BAND-MAID songs, especially "Freedom" are recommended. All mysteries have been solved and you will find that it is probably the best hard rock band.
They have all kinds of rock songs.
Metal, punk, pop and other elements are played by their rock.

The girls of Band Maid are hardly upset or angry, I can assure you.
This is the happiest group of extremely talented goofballs on the planet. :)

  • @jannashesgbcnemophilafan4317

These women in japan, Band Maid, Lovebites, Nemophila all started listening to classic rock, metal, hard rock while learning their instruments. So they play rock music. Lead guitarist, songwritet here Kanami, said Carlos Santana, Larry Carlton, Van Halen are inspirations.

Japanese Bands (especially the female ones) are the current and future top notch within Hard Rock and Metal. You can call Japan also the land of the rising riff!
Beside Lovebites and Band-Maid you will find Nemophila, Brats, Maximum the Hormone, Hagane, Bridear, Mary's Blood and many many many more. Therefore enjoy your Alice trip into Japanese rock. You wont regret it.

For harder material, try out Dissension by Nemophila. And definitely do more Band-Maid. The MV of Warning is great. Welcome to Band-Maid!!! 7 albums(8 if you count their alter-egos Band-Maiko)100+songs, 35 "official" mv's (and counting), and not a bad song in the bunch, seriously, all within 6-1/2 years!!! Their songs are a roller-coaster ride though different genres and emotions. Since you started with "Different", an exercise of controlled chaos, lol, I'm gonna switch gears and recommend something with a more classic blues feel, "Manners" or "Bubble", so you can see the versatility of these ladies. But if not, any of their live performances will not disappoint!👍👍🤘🤘🤘

Band Maid is NOT angry. They are very nice and cheerful people and a bunch of funny goofballs.
By the way, this song is the opening theme of an anime called "LOG Horizon - Destruction of the round table" airing right now in Japan.

That made me laugh so hard! Great reaction... "I wanna get off this chair and punch the wall". That was hilarious! Thumbs up for that.... I my book they are the pinnacle of rockmusic right now.
They are together since a long time, have an great chemistry, are friends with each other, writing their own songs and LIVE they are even better, they are a FORCE live. And the songwriting is out of this world the lead guitar (Kanami) is mainly writing the songs and there are so much influences: Rock, Metal, Pop, Punk, Blues, Jazz, Funk and sometimes they melt 3-4 genres into one song and it still sounds incredible! Lyrics are also very well thought out and written by Miku (founder, back vocals and rhythm guitar). They are the best band i discovered ever, for a long time i said the last 10-15 years, but i realized they are having this throne now, it´s a long time ago i was into an band like that, but they deserve it. Also really great ladies with heart and soul, nothing is fake.
    Greetings from Germany

Best rock band on the planet! You can't go wrong with anything from their official channel although "Different" is one of their more metal tracks and done for an anime opening. Like your attitude towards the translations because not everything is going to translate perfectly. I care for them more on subsequent listens to see how much English was actually in the song then I realized and admire the amazing messages and words that Miku manages to write.

I knew you were gonna like them, but you aint seen nuthin yet :P so much talent, so many musical styles and ideas flow through Band-Maid that it's easy to forget that 1) they are all Japanese
    2) they are all women
    3) they wear maid costumes
    4) they sing mostly in Japanese with English sprinkled throughout(mostly in chorus)
    5) they are the most adorable girls when not blowing your mind with awesome rock riff's, bass runs and double bass kicks.
First MV is "Thrill" the song that many of us first heard years ago and instantly fell in love with them.
"Alone" MV from 2016 is the first song written by Kanami and Band-Maid accepted by the record label and after that 99% of song were written by Kanami and Band-Maid.

@@HighlyCombustibleReacts It's a commissioned *_Anime_* theme song, hence the speed, chaos and intensity. It's probably one of their their fastest tracks. They also have heavier slower songs. _Band Maid_ is an eclectic mix of metal/rock/blues/punk/pop/funk etc, but always with that hard rock base, which makes them so interesting.

It takes a few listens to appreciate the depth and ability of these ladies and they really excel in live performances. Play (live) and Domination (Live) are good starting points. Enjoy the journey my friend!

THE best live Rock band on Earth. Try a live performance to really see their musical ability and the sheer joy they impart to the audience. Best Rock band I've seen since Led Zeppelin (though that was in 1979!) and Zep's guitarist, Jimmy Page, thinks so too as he went backstage to get a selfie with the drummer a few years ago and told them all how excellent they were. Just for a moment, forget they're all female and forget they're dressed as maids. Two members (MISA - Bass, Akane - Drums) are classically trained pianists and musicians who studied at the Tokyo Academy of Music while Kanami, the lead guitarist, has also been playing piano since the age of 3 or 4 but is concert standard (almost unbelievably, given her skills, she only switched to guitar about 10 years ago!) They all have superb musical ability as well as passion, a lack of ego and the drive to play real, in your face, Rock which is why they are THE best live Rock band on Earth right now. OK, now that's explained, you can go back and marvel at how cute those outfits look and how incredibly beautiful all the band members are. The only band I've seen that is playing live like bands I went to see in the 70's, such as Led Zeppelin or Sabbath or Zappa. Music they write themselves, real guitars, drums and bass played loudly and with passion as well as powerful Rock vocals. They are all really close friends and know how to have fun together on stage, confident as they are in each others’ abilities and skills. They've revived the classic Rock sound and given the genre a much needed kick in the ass, as Babymetal have done for Metal (GOTTA CHECK OUT BABYMETAL IF YOU WANNA SEE ENERGETIC JAPANESE METAL) . Future reactions I'd recommend, as they really shine brightest live, would be from the DVD they released in April. Totally right about the language, absolutely no need to understand the lyrics with this band, You get all the emotions from the brilliance of their songwriting and delivery. A band that has made me cry more than once. Saiki is one of my all time favourite rock vocalists despite barely understanding a word. They tend to look serious in MV's but live they are the happiest band in the world.

Welcome to the land of the maids! The one thing this band doesn't really do much if at all is "anger" - and in fact that's why so many of us have gladly fallen down the rabbit hole. They tend to plaster a big grin on your face whether you want it or not. Don't get me wrong, they can go as fast and as hard as anybody (as you saw), but this song was actually picked up as an anime intro and is not IMO "representative" (no one song is representative of this band because they can and do flush the idea of "genre" right down the drain. You need to listen to at least 4 or 5 until you even begin to have an idea of what they are capable of. They do metal-ish hard and fast songs, classic power ballads, classic hard rock, modern hard rock, beautiful ballads, crazy wild fast stuff like this, and sometimes several of these in the same song. They are ASTOUNDING and extremely addicting (which you can do doubt tell from all of the comments). They are also best LIVE, and they write their material with live shows in mind. If I were to plot your journey, I'd tell you to go forward in this order, but honestly there is no right or wrong order because everything they do is awesome.
Next: Real Existence Live version from 2018 (all of these are on their YT channel)
    2nd: Domination Live, Feb 2020
3rd: Rinne or Warning MV's (because you seem to like fast and hard)
4th: Daydreaming (a classic rock power ballad, because by now your heart will be starting to pound from the speed, and it has a crazy good guitar solo)
5th: Manners - my favorite song off of their new album - medium tempo hard rock with a massively hard groove
5th and onward - anything - and I mean anything off of their channel
When you've fallen completely for these ladies (could happen very soon I'm warning you) - you can then visit "About Us" - a full on beautiful ballad that describes the anguish of both them and their fans at being separated during covid - and don't forget to turn on subtitles - for this one you should - although I TOTALLY agree with your statement about not trying to read the lyrics, as I prefer to think of the vocals as just another instrument until I learn the song and there is always a lot of interesting stuff going on.
Okay, I'll shut up now - welcome to the best and MOST FUN band in the world.

A boring explanation for why there are so many good musicians in Japan is the fact is the second largest music market in the world in terms of retail value. It is about half the size of the US, and twice the size of the third largest which is either Germany or the UK.

  • @RetiredInThailand
    @RetiredInThailand Před 3 lety +21

You don't need English translations, BUT, Miku, the one who writes most of the lyrics, is considered a genius poet in Japan, not only for her Japanese lyrics, but for the way she weaves in English lyrics into her songs to provide the missing 'consonant syllable endings' (something the Japanese language is missing .. almost every syllable in Japanese ends with a vowel sound) while keeping the feel/poetry intact.
But, even if you ignore the translation you will find that Band-Maid puts a strong priority on great melodies and layered arrangements .. you're not going to hear a verse or chorus repeated in the same way in any of their songs ... there is always something changing while still keeping the feel of the same, but with some new twist to keep you interested.
I don't know of any Bass or Drummer that play more tastefully than the girls in this band, and the lead guitarist beyond never playing a note that isn't stunning is a musical arrangement genius!
100 plus songs in their catalog and while great and energetic this is actually one of the more 'restricted' songs since they wrote it for an Anime, so they concentrated more on the 'anime pacing' and singing ... watch some of their official live videos and be prepared to be truly impressed!

Kanami Tono - Lead guitar Composer and main arranger Born Sept 28, 1991 29 years old
Miku Kobato - Rhythm guitar, backing vocal Born Oct 21, 1991 29 years old
Akane Hirose - Drums Born Dec 14, 1990 30 years old
Miku envisoned the idea of a maid-band that plays hard rock and metal. She recruited Kanami, who recruited Akane, who recruited MISA. Then they collectively recruited Saiki. Miku didn't know how to play guitar, so Kanami has been teaching her. She's become good so fast that Maidiacs are daring to dream of a dual solo.

You had no idea Japan was rocking out like this? Common reaction! But:
Japan has had an active all-girl metal scene since at least 1981. This is a starter list of all-female or (in four cases, mixed, female-led) metal, punk, hard-rock and post-rock bands. It's mostly alphabetical, except for the first three, which are at the top of the list for historical reasons. They set the table for the explosion of Japanese female hard-rock, punk and metal bands.
Show-Ya (1981 The original female J-metal band, founded before Metallica-this is from their 30th (!) anniversary concert-and they are still touring): czcams.com/video/oJ_5Gv3vFjQ/video.html

Tricot (2010 Post-progressive math-rock, very technical, crazy time signatures and polyrhythms) czcams.com/video/P_B_GalsJrE/video.html
Trident (formerly Kakumei. Evolved from pop-punk to thrashier hard rock; several lineup changes but the bassist and lead singer have been constants) czcams.com/video/9k9txMouU34/video.html
Unlucky Morpheus (2008 Female lead (Fuki) and violin (Jill). This band is a deep well unto itself, they cross many subgenres of metal; Fuki and Jill also do other projects and Fuki is lead for at least two other bands including Doll$Boxx, above): czcams.com/video/V8i_QhOgsKw/video.html

MISA (bass) and Akane (drums) attended the Tokyo School of Music that is for training musicians for the music industry. There 100's of all female bands in Japan right now and 100's of clubs for them to play in. Some clubs are fully equipped so that bands only need to bring their instrument to perform.
No matter how good you think you play a musical instrument, there is a Japanese lady who plays it better. (paraphrased/stolen)
