I'm 55, have seen many great acts over the years. Van Halen, AC/DC, Genesis, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, The Who, The Rolling Stones. These ladies are right up there with any of them. With great songs, phenomenal musicianship. Charismaticly performed live ! It's been 30-40 yrs. Since a band of this quality, appeared anywhere in the world !

The girls of band maid are the real deal! They are serious talented musicians who really love doing what they do! The maid outfits might be putting off at first when people see them for the first time, but once they start playing, people will realize this band is no gimmick! They can shred!
Akane Hirose is my favorite Japanese drummer, and currently my favorite drummer over-all. But if you start looking into the J-Rock stuff you find that every Female drummer out of Japan beats the living daylights out of 90% of male western drummers. They are absolute beasts on the double pedals. They mostly have these tiny 4 or 5 piece kits, and they absolutely play the living hell out of them. Akane in particular plays the entire kit all the time (many are just doing the machine gun dbl base thing with more normal fills in between). I only ran into this band (and J-Rock) a month ago. And before this I had never felt the need to play double pedals. Akane is the best thing to happen to my drumming since hearing Rush in the 80s when I was growing up. Probably best thing to happen to my health as well, SO much work to get into shape. I'm mostly past the sore legs/calves. The kids are watching me flail around and not give up, so they seem less timid about practicing piano and my daughter is even asking for an Electric guitar now. If only the wife was into good music ...

They are Crazy talented. And their songs are hook after hook after hook. The maid imagery is tough for some folks outside Japan too grip but Imo its no different that North American girl bands who wear leather,dress emo,etc.. In Japan Imagery and Cosplay elements are very much a part of their acts. I know 5 words in Japanese yet I seemed understand every bit of each of their songs. Great reaction! In the beginning I had my doubts about Bandmaid, but they fine-tuned themselves and found their own sound. I'm very happy to see they wear beautiful clothes, with professional light and sound to back their performance. They really earned it!

Band Maid have that instant 'love it' appeal to all their songs in my opinion. As a big fan of the band it is difficult to be critical. The only thing that is not so good about them is their rather formulaic music videos. Not all of them are the same but this video reflects several of their official music videos. The music though, is brilliant. The word you are looking for to describe Akane's drumming is SWAGGER. Its one of the best ways to describe a good drummer's playing. The best known drummer for swagger was Jon Bonham from Led Zepplin and I'd put Akane up there in terms of swagger.
