    As a former theme park employee, I can appreciate that they encourage using the tester seats outside the rides. I’ve had many uncomfortable experiences with people that ignore the test seats and then cannot fit on the ride and insist that they “fit last time” or I should “push the restraints harder”, because it’s too embarrassing to recognize they are too large/small for the ride.

      It's not as easy as one thinks to loose weight... we have sugar companies and health companies who artificially manipulate foods to be addictive. Obviously our grandparents did not even have this problem of willpower.... foods were not addictive back then. And natural foods are usually flavourless or have one flavour or two at best.
      And when lawyers and NGOs address these issues from legislative perspectives... these companies drown them under a mountain of lawsuits. In the USA especially...

My dad is trying to lose weight for my sister's wedding in the fall and wants me to join in. But his idea of weight lost is only taking apple cider vinegar pills. To be fair to my dad he recently had some heart stents installed and he is active in his garden, but every time I see him he's laying down watching TV. I think they got it into their minds they are too old to work out and too set in their ways to change their diets despite all their talk of changing it.

Maybe they are "health in any size" proponents, and I'm wrong? But this isn't clearly conveyed. There are fat people. There are many reasons they become fat ranging from unrelated health issues, abuse, the food culture in the US in general, the car culture, the office culture and yes, "personal accountability." I agree with your stance that these people are incredibly unhealthy and should be trying to take steps to improve their health. However, your "just lose weight!" comments are not helpful. I'm a 46 year old guy and I've been fat my whole life. I'm currently 6'5" and 290. I've tried many times to lose weight and I've even been as "low" as 265 but cannot maintain it. I go to the gym a couple times a week, I live in a walkable part of town and try to walk anywhere I can. I've been prescribed multiple weight loss medications by my doctor but my insurance won't cover ANY of them and I can't afford the extortionate $600-$1000 a month to pay for those medications. I don't eat fast food and try to only cook my own dinner most nights and try my best to eat healthy. The weight is just infuriatingly stubborn and refuses to leave and stay gone. Some of us are legitimately trying our best. Now I'm not saying these creators are trying at all, but it's not as simple as "just lose weight fatty!"

      @zach23ize Před měsícem +8

      Monitor what you eat in a week, but don't obsess and track calories. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, track it. The next week, cut out 10-20% from each meal while being active. If you drop too many calories too fast, or exercise too much your body freaks out. YOU know when you'll eat, your body doesn't. If there is a sharp change in diet, or a missed meal, you body will store almost all of that next meal as fat. It puts it away for safe keeping because it has no idea when its next meal is.
      If you maintain the consistent 3 meal schedule, those become your maintenance calories. When you gradually take away calories from each meal your body goes "hey, we need a little more to keep us going" and it'll take from your fat storage. If you take away too much your body will just bypass the fat storage and begin eating your muscles, as that's a much faster source of energy.
      To be vehemently clear, this is what worked for me when I was faced with the same dilemma. I'm by no means a dietician, so don't take my word as gospel. Taking pills or following trendy diets are a waste of your time. No food magically cuts weight, a deficit of it does. You cannot and will not EVER outrun a shit/inconsistent diet. If you're not at least coconscious with what goes in your body, your body will never change. You mentioned eating healthy, but I fear that's such a blanket statement. You could substitute 2k cals worth of shit food for healthy food and it'll still be 2k cals worth of food. You're still not in a caloric deficit.
      Also, your body literally doesn't need sugar to survive (processed sugar) unless it's naturally occurring in what you consume (fruit). Soda, Coffee, and Alcohol are a real killer too. You're older so your metabolism has slowed down. Even the pace at which you eat can help you eat less as well (if you eat slower your body has time to process what it just consumed and tell you "no more"), which in turn would help you cut out calories like I mentioned in paragraph one. I believe you're trying your best, and I hope you can at least take something away from this. You've got this!

    Idk, I think I’m on the hoppers side here.
    The video where they addressed the negative comments didn’t strike me as them saying fat is healthy or beautiful or anything like that. It seems to me that they’re simply saying fat people exist, and while they exist they should be able to engage in hobbies they love. Their hobby happens to be Disney parks and they’re sharing information that people in similar situations might find useful.
    I think your point about obese people having no shame is completely wrong. Most morbidly obese people have immense shame and have been shamed for a large portion of their lives. Some people choose to live how they want in spite of the shame, some people let shame spiral into self-hatred, and some people actually don’t feel shame at all (but I think this is rare). You can encourage people to live healthier lives without shaming them. When people are addicted to drugs or alcohol, we don’t say “you can’t enjoy your hobbies, connect with others, or have fun until you’re completely sober” because we know that’s counter productive. But somehow we think that shaming and isolating fat people will help them lose weight.
    Shame may motivate some people to lose weight, but many people will fail and the shame will get even worse with nowhere to direct it except at themselves. Having failed, the shame makes them feel like like a failure, like losing weight is impossible for them, and probably drives them to turn to food for comfort, the exact OPPOSITE of what people were allegedly trying to accomplish by shaming them. A much better approach, in my opinion is to encourage people to lose weight out of a sense of self-love and self-compassion, rather than self-hate.

Loving yourself should include working to better yourself, and health is a part of that. At my heaviest I was around 250 lbs, and was MISERABLE at that size! Losing weight was something I never thought I would accomplish, but managing to bring my weight down to 175 lbs was one of the best things I've ever done for myself.

    • @supraguy4694
      @supraguy4694 Před měsícem +1

      @@cubefreak123 fear of change and putting the effort in is the usual suspect. It's very easy to become complacent and the bigger you get, the harder it is to muster the willpower to change.
      I told myself "I'll never let myself get to 200 lbs" but eventually I just kept moving that goal post. I'd be at a drive thru almost every day telling myself "I've gotta stop" but it wasn't enough to just say it.
      The thing about weight loss, and Phil points it out, is that small/gradual changes are really all it takes. I still ate the food I craved, just less of it, and slowly worked in better choices.
      That's actually the BEST way to do it. So many people fail because they try to pull a sudden 180 on their diet which is usually way too much of a change for their mind and body to handle at once. It's easier to cut back on certain foods than to outright quit eating them right away.
      Also a lot of people start exercising while making NO changes to their diet and wonder why they aren't losing weight. Exercise is good, but most weight loss will come from dietary changes. For me, I lost the weight almost entirely just through calorie deficit alone.

It's not something to celebrate, and one should take measures in their own hands to improving their health. This includes both mental and physical health. Not only does it prolong your life, it also helps you avoid financial dependency upon hospital visits. Going to the gym, going for a hike, a walk, a jog, etc is you taking measures to improve almost every basic health issue you may have in the future. Common sense.

Most big people tend to think "I'm proud of this body so there is no need for change." Which ultimately develops into arrogant close minded individuals like the ones in the video.
      It's a snake eating itself at the end of it all, they think it's ok to be big with no change, so they grow an ego, the ego starts to bother people... especially when broadcasting it to the world, they get ridiculed, they get mad and continue to be ok with no change. You know what your body does when it doesn't have regular food source every day???? IT BURNS YOUR FAT AWAY TO KEEP YOU ALIVE.
      You don't need 3 meals a day if all you do is sit home and do nothing. If you already eating 3 times a day not every meal has to be super XXL size with extra sugar drinks and other redundant shit.

      Except the issue here is morbidly obese people who think it’s everyone else who has the problem for not accommodating them at their size, not that they have a problem.
      Therapy won’t do anything for a person in denial about having a problem in the first place.

    • @hyadalko46
      @hyadalko46 Před měsícem +6

      If you can afford to go to disney world and eat there, you're not poor.
      If you live in America, and not a 3rd world country, you have access to the internet and information about foods/diets/exercise.
      If you're not a kid, you know full well how different foods impact your body.
      You can't just expect an adult to pretend that eating doughnuts and chips will make their body feel the same as a chicken salad.
      The cheap food thing is an excuse, since most of the obese people consume a good quantity of shitty foods, which would equal a lighter but healthier meal.
      People often complain about fruits and meat prices, but if they'd cut out all the shitty processed/sugary foods, and trade them for real ones, they'd be far healthier and eat less by default.
