Day in Our Life: Martina's Busted Wrist

- I really wanted to call this video “Did Martina Break Her Hand?” because, for most of the video, we weren’t sure, and we couldn’t find out, so we’re doing our best to get by with this uncertainty. And with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Martina’s always in pain, so how do we know if she actually broke her hand or not? This is a real conversation we have. To be honest, the doctor Martina saw was really rushed, and we still don’t know what to do about her hand.
So we’re showing you a bit more of our vulnerable side this week, but that’s in hopes of sharing something we learned about ourselves in this video, because if we’re just learning it now, maybe you might be learning it, too. Don’t close yourself off from others. Reach out to friends and family. You’ll not want to, but you’ll be surprised how much better you can feel.
Our friend, Annika, also has a great CZcams channel. Check it out!

Gosh I love the fact that Simon really tries his best to make her makeup look at beautiful as possible and that he that he really cares about doing it and the sound effects make it even more perfect XD
I was tearing up so much in this video, such beautiful love
Watching Simon dote on you is the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life 😭
I dote on her a lot she's so great :D
I literally started crying. He's so sweet to her.
I'm so in love with that part
As someone who's in a relationship with a chronically ill person, who will most likely only get worse as the years pass by, I almost cried watching Simon working so hard for Martina. You DO get that desire to be the very best support you can possibly be, but it's also SO SO SO important to not forget yourself in the progress...my partner would NEVER forgive me if I drove myself over any edge - whether it be physically or mentally - for his sake. It's a balance and I admire Simon and Martina SO MUCH for their beautiful way to co-exist while struggling with a stupid disease every day!
10/10 relationship goals!!!
simon is so inlove with martina.. my heart..
@@gazorpazorp9798 No, that is not true. Their breakup does not mean Simon didn't love Martina at that point. Maybe their breakup doesn't even have anything to do with falling out of love.
Simon, I really admire you for your commitment to help Martina but please remember that you don't have to do everything on your own.
I work in the medical field and often see family members of patients get really worn out to the point where they damage their own health while trying to do everything for their loved ones. Just remember that in most places there are care giving services that can help you out when you are sick or injured and you guys need help. Knowing which services are available in your area can take that pressure off you.
All the best to you both! I really love your videos!❤️
That is such an important message. The pressure of being the only caregiver to a loved person can be soul crushing. You cannot and should not feel like you have to carry that burden on your own. There is help out there. Nobody is alone in this.
Even when someone thinks they can do it all for their loved one, it’s still hard and we can’t always know how exhausting it is until it all piles up. Sometimes we need to be reminded that our loved one also needs rest days when they don’t have to do ANYTHING for anyone but themrselves. I have EDS and ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, and Central Diabetes Insipidus.... etc etc.... my husband gets a break each month for a long weekend when I go and stay with a friend or a family member who can help me out with my daily activities. It really is IMPORTANT.
@@shannont5049 yes I have. I generally have the feeling that they know what they are doing and didn't mean to say that they are doing something unhealthy. But Simon clearly expressed worries about when he gets injured or sick and mentioned it put a lot of pressure on him. So I was merely pointing out that informing yourself about which services can help you out in tricky moments can take pressure off you because you know which resources are available in your area.
How is that negative?

I’ve been here since the Korean days. And it makes me sad to see so many trials and tribulations happening in your guy’s lives. However I see so much love and hope... I am hardcore rooting and praying for you both.
omg me too ! Since that Avengers Cupcake video🤷🤫🥰
Me also, these guys are my favorite people. I'm so happy they found each other and shared their journey with us.
I love these "day in our life" videos. I feel closer to y'all and it always makes my day when I see you guys. You guys bring so much joy to the community 💕
Hear hear. I love that they show their vulnerability. It lets us feel connected to them on a human level.
I agree. They always show the real side of life.
Aesthetics don't equal strength.
Getting big cut muscles may make you look strong but it's actually just the visual ; gaining real strength doesn't really look like anything. I mean ; look at the Mountain from GOT. He is pretty damn strong, and meaty, and isn't particularly lean or sculpted.
Also some of the strongest people out there are free climbers and most of em look like they don´t have muscles at all.
Because a strong muscle is a long and flexible muscle but lots of body builders work out for the looks and people with bulky thick muscles often have short muscles and that's rather bad. That's at least what I read, pretty interesting :)
I am loving all this positive conversation :)
Jae B I know people who work out like mad but don‘t stretch and literally squish all the liquids out of their intervertebral discs, thus ruining their back. The muscle grows thicker, looks „better“, but it needs to be stretched out to stay healthy. Doing some sun salutations or something after training is crucial to stay healthy over the years. So that yoga dude that all the shredded dudes make fun of has deep muscle control and strenght that ultimately keeps him going til he old and grey.
That's because he does strongman. Alot of strongman and women who compete dont look like they workout very much. Aswell as powerlifters
Of course Simon knows how to braid. He’s a Dothraki man warrior! 😉 I can’t wait for you to feel better Martina. You all are the best
a Dothraki warrior that lost all its hair ;_;
Simon you are doing it right. Having too much muscle can reduce flexibility and add stress to your cardiovascular system. Like a dancer once said that you shouldn't lift weights, you should lift a woman. It is much more difficult to lift a human body properly than an iron weight. You need flexibility as well as strength to properly carry a person.
Another fantastic episode. These videos are almost documentary quality but much more entertaining.
And if you Google the body type of the people who compete in strongman competitions, a lot of them look more like Simon than what you'd probably think of when you hear "shredded". Not having an ounce of body fat is aesthetically pleasing to some people but it really has nothing to do with health or strength.
Well lifting a woman gives functional strength - it builds up stabilizer muscles and proper form also has the muscles working in concert.
But look at wide receivers, corner backs, and basketball players - very strong, have flexibility. You can have strength and flexibility, you have to work on both. That's why some football players also do yoga. A good use of rest days is flexibility and cardio.
@@grayonthewater He has some 'day in the life' videos where he shows his routine!
better example would be Rugby players.
"i dont want to get injured"
This sounds (at least to me) from a place full of worries. Not for himself, but for his love. Please be well, dont overwork yourself Simon ! And Martina looking exquisitely gorgeous in this episode. SLAY. ✨
They're such good people, I hope really hope they take care and don't overwork
Simon said that Martina is a blessing and I agree 100%. You have been a blessing to so many of us. Making us laugh, smile, cry, and so much more. Simon wouldn't be the same man without you and we wouldn't be who we are without everything that you have shared with us. The good times and the tough times. Hope your hand is feeling better
You know what I appreciate so much about both of you? Both of you look for the positive, but you don't sugar coat the journey it takes to get there. You recognize that while you worked hard to have a positive week, it was still a crummy week to get through. I sincerely appreciate your relatability, you never try to paint this picture of a perfect and easy emotional journey through your struggles. You always acknowledge that there will be times where it's easy to snap back and find your joy, but other times it will be a nonstop battle to get there. Thank you for your sincerity, and for giving us such a candid view into the highs as well as the lows in your life.
Beautifully said!
❤️
M: "You did such a great job!"
S: "It was easy cuz you're so pretty"

Welcome to another episode of "Dothraki Man-Warrior Makeup and Beauty Shoppe" 🤣
Simon, basically you rock. Please clone yourself, or give "How To Guy" lessons, or something!
The really ripped ones usually dump so much of their time and personality into it that "ripped" is kind of woman-code for "self absorbed and not much fun to talk to." It's kind of like an evolutionary warning, like the bright colors on poisonous toads.🧠💤
Martina, thank you once again for sharing and being an inspiration. No exaggeration. In the little "what-would-so-and-so say" chorus that lives in my head and keeps me from driving ER nurses into early retirement, your voice is loud and clear.
Feel better and have all the happy!
Good for you and being vulnerable Simon. Men definitely also struggle with body image issues. Keep doing what makes you feel good and healthy, ultimately that's what matters most. Also, it is naturally harder for larger/taller men to gain body muscle. It took my 6'4" cousin almost 6 years to get his body to the place he wanted it to.
Martina, as someone who works in healthcare your section on describing pain is so great! Often people can't verbalise to us how they're feeling and videos like yours will really help a lot of people
Carla O'Connell agreed. When I first started having health issues I didn’t know how to describe my pain and it was a struggle to figure things out. Now I know what to say and help my doctor the best I can. It’s so difficult to figure things out when you look fine and I have a guilt issue of not wanting to burden my doctor and laugh and smile through the pain to be polite.... even when In the Er about to go in for surgery or put on dilaudid. I’ve learned to be open and vulnerable so they can properly evaluate me
@@rustictexas2576 Absolutely, I struggle a lot with pain and even though I'm in the profession I still struggle to fess up to bad pain. But! Your team is there to help you, and pain management is important to us, try to push through that guilt and keep us in the loop ❤️
@@studionightshade 😂 I feel this. My background level has sort of skewed my pain scale. That's why I prefer the faces rather than the 1-10 scale, its a little better for taking account of your baseline level.
sacredmeow yes! I have such a high pain tolerance now it’s hard to know when it’s bad. Fell and hurt my shoulder the finally went to the dr a few weeks later and found out I had dislocated it and a few ribs 🤦♀️
Carla O'Connell thank you! That’s why I come here and watch their videos and read the comments because no one in my family can really understand. My husband somehow has figured out to know when I’m hiding the pain from him, it used to be frustrating because I was exposed but now I appreciate it! It’s helping me open up and help!
Martina - I have hEDS as well. Thank you for spreading awareness and the reality of chronic illness! Especially the pain. You always do a great job of explaining it. I wasn't diagnosed until 17, but struggled and looked for answers my whole life. I'm 28 now. Apparently (and unfortunately) I have a "nasty case" of it, whatever that means... I think they may also be referring to the fact that I have almost all of the major related comorbidities (POTS, MCAD, Gastroparesis, etc.). So I wonder, do you have any comorbidities? If you're comfortable talking about that, of course. Regardless, thank you. You are making a difference.
P.S.- Can we talk about how amazing Simon is? If only there were more like him! What a kind way to think and support. And I'm sure it makes you feel more hopeful and secure about the future. You are a lucky girl! And thank you Simon for being a great example of a kind, supportive partner just by being you.
Simon, hug that girl so much for us, gently of course.
NOTIFICATION SQUAD! What are you watching on Netflix lately? We're into Working Moms for some reason. It's set in Toronto and we're really into it :D
Sabrina !😂🙌🏻
I've been rewatching Merlin
I'm re watching Lucifer over and over
totally started watching the anime Saiki and I'm loving how ridiculous it is eheh
Just finished Bonding
*hugs to Simon*
You are strong.
You are awesome.
Taking care of yourself is an important way to take care of Martina.
Martina is SUCH a blessing. Your content online has helped me deal with depression and find what makes me smile in life. I trust God to help me through those moments spiritually, but sometimes I need practical solutions and things I can do to help build that ladder. I am thankful for your kindness and wisdom.
Usually when I watch CZcams I’m thrown videos about drama or quick 4 minute videos but sometimes you come across an amazing channel. One that entertains, teaches, and makes you feel good all in one. So happy you guys make videos. Truly beautiful people
Your love and dedication to each other is so inspiring and beautiful!
Watching Simon put on your makeup and do your hair was one of the most lovely things I have ever seen.
May is also Multiple Chemical Sensitivity month, we call ourselves canaries after the canary in the coal mine. I follow other vloggers that have EDS and chemical sensitivities so I am thrilled that May is awareness month for both conditions because they are often seen at the same time.
Just found out about u guys since the moving to Tokyo video (i know im late) .. a few binge watching later i found out about your EDS ..
I was a medical student back then but never heard/learnt about it. Even until now that i am a Medical doctor.. no lecturer/senior doctor have ever mentioned it.. nor that i found a patient with EDS .
.
Thanks to your awareness message on this video , i spent my evening reading a medical publication about EDS the hypermobility type 😁.. i guess utube teach you more than people imagine! Haha
Thank you for teaching me to sympathize with chronic pain..
I believe you are a blessing for many people's life, at least for me.
Keep being strong simon martina! We love you.
I LOVE THIS. PAIN QUALITY YESSS. Every time I ask someone to describe the pain, they look at me like wut?
P.s. I'm a physiotherapist and May is physiotherapy month in Canada!
Yay for EDS AWARENESS MONTH !
THANK YOU for explaining about pain description. As a nurse, it's so hard when nearly every patient says "it's 10/10 and aching" regardless. I try teach patients about numbers and types, but they don't always want to hear it. Being accurate in your description helps SO MUCH. ☺️
I think a lot of people feel like if they aren't dying, they won't be taken seriously, so they say a 10 to get help.
Not a nurse, but I wish people would understand that the level is there for a reason, it's not meant to say "oh, you're just a six, walk it off" it's meant to help understand what could be happening. There are some cases where a dull 2-4 ache in a specific place can be a sign of something much more serious and sudden intense pain should never be ignored.
Don't under or oversell what you are feeling. Your pain matters regardless of intensity and level. Giving an honest description helps everyone understand what could be the problem.
Sincerely a person who's never had a 10 pain, but has definitely felt 8. I understand a 10 means I think I am literally dying and a 4 is nothing to sneeze at.
First, props to you for being a nurse and second, I think it’s going to take me awhile like Martina to figure out pain description words 😆
When I first went to the ER last year due to an internal bleed, all I could think was why the **** do I have to keep repeating myself! I was super polite though, never rose my voice or swore at anyone but internally I was haha. I guess unless you are experienced you won’t really know, some people do have higher pain tolerance or is just stubborn. I refused to take the pain meds unless it got to the point it hurt to even breathe haha but I will definitely try to be more descriptive next time but I get Martina when you go to a place that has no idea what your condition is they get confused or blame common things.
No lie that little camera looks amazing. I can't believe it is so tiny too!!!! Perfect to keep doing the things you love and build that ladder!!!
Claire Vladyka I wish I knew what kind of camera that is!
Sometimes I forget that Martina was a teacher, but this video really reminded me. She seems like an awesome teacher!!
Simon! You're very inspirational even for women like me. We all need to remember that exercising is not just about losing weight and looking good physically, it's about being healthy so that you can do more and have more time with the people that you love. Thank you for making me remember!
I love how you guys are so random and chaotic in these kind of videos lately! It's so refreshing! 😆🙌💜💕
me too!!! it makes me so happy ❤️
I hope to one day find my own "Simon"
Seeing Simon worry about not being strong enough just pulled at all of my heart-strings, the love you two show each other is just breath taking.
Everything that Simon said about being shredded: YES. I, too, see fitness models say, "Anyone can do this," but we have to remember the sacrifices they make to look that way. It's a LOT of time and mental energy. I once was on a very regimented workout/diet plan, but my life revolved around that stuff. I was constantly planning my life around food and workouts. If you want to be shredded, that is the sacrifice you make. But for me? It wasn't worth it. People must choose for themselves what is most important for them.
I never really leave comments on any videos but I just want to say that Simon you are an amazing husband and human being. The love that you have for Martina really shows through how you take care of her and help her with her needs. Martina you’re so brave for sharing your illness and spreading awareness about EDS. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness.
26 minutes of Simon, Martina, and Meemersworth goodness????? I've been blessed this testing season 😀
Guess what guys! I think I found my “Simon” 😄!!! It’s still early but he’s really nurturing and already is someone who knows that a relationship is work but it’s also fun to work on things together! He also has a beard and shaved head 😂 Just a coincidence I swear!
I hope that makes me his “Martina” cause I can identify plants 😜
Congrats! I also feel lucky that my first and present boyfriend could also be my "Simon". Met him when I was 24years old, been going out for more than 6 years now.
My current bf can’t grow a beard (job requirement) but he is super nurturing and he’s so amazing. ❤️
I hope i find my simon(a) lol
@@rike12octavia14 dont worry you will.
There‘s nothing like a relationship where the partners take care of each other! 💜
Simon mentioning the anxiety of not being strong enough is so wonderful and helpful. Worrying that you aren't strong enough to help is a very real things and it's nice to see someone else mentioning it. Thank you for being so open about the good and bad of loving someone with a chronic illness Simon
My world's colliding with them being friends with Annika!
I believe them and Annika have been friends for at least a year or so? I know Annika posted photos of spudgy the last time she went to Japan (before her current stay there)
before this i was screaming because i had lost essentially 4 days work of animation key frames.( 43h of work. ) this calmed me down. Even made me smile. I need a drink now.
Have some nice Herbal Tea. The work you'll have to re-do is going to be even better than what was lost, you can do this!
Ahhh I feel for you. Those animation key frames 😭😭😭I hope you feel better. I’d be crying if I lost all of that.
We're using one pump...ONE PU-

I know things change but was this real?
Thank you so much for help describing pain. I have 4 autoimmune diseases and it took years for my family to understand how my body felt. Me and my husband have been together 5 years and he still doesn't fully get it. My brain says I can but my body says "sit your ass down and rest!" You are truly an inspiration!!!
Hugs and healing vibes to Martina! Simon, you taking care of yourself is so important. Watching you talk about your fears of getting hurt really hit home. I’ve been guilty of pushing through pain I shouldn’t and became a burden on my fam. You take good care of yourself and stop falling off swings, lol!
Hi Martina,
As Simon mentioned earlier, you are a blessing in many lives. I was having a sad day and you made me smile :)
I wish your pain would go away and both of you stay happy 💕 💕 💕
Your guy's love for each other always makes me cry with joy. That love is unconditional.
Martina, we all love you. You give me so much hope when I'm hurting from my hupermobility and my fibromyalgia. Every time I watch your videos it gives me such a good feeling inside because you are such a loving and genuine person 💚🧡💙💜💖🦋
A lot of those "super jacked guys" are literally on steroids lol. Not all, but unfortunately more than there should be.
What do you mean "can't do stuff with the left hand"? Girl you did it anyway! You just didn't do it as well or easily or you're used to, but you did them! Keep up the great spirit! ❤️
One of the things I love most in these day in the life videos is just seeing your guys' day-to-day conversations. I've never been married, but I was always curious to know, after so many years with the same person, what do couples talk about? Do you ever run out of things to talk about/does it ever feel like you're having the same conversations about the same mundane things over and over? Thank you for letting us see a little bit into your daily lives, and even including moments like just talking about life together in the park. Somehow seeing your healthy relationship makes me feel warmer and a little more hopeful/positive toward marriage.
Martina can use chopsticks with her left hand?!! A champion.
In my hair stylist/legit honest opinion that braid gets a 10/10
Simon.. you should take collagen powder for your joint health, since you workout and do heavy lifting! I used to have knee pain until I started taking 1 tablespoon of collagen powder a day!! 💖💕💗 .. research the benefits! 😊
Can I just say, Simon you are a wonderful husband and person. Don’t feel pressured to be more than what you already are. And Martina you are a strong and wonderful wife and person. Seriously, you two are amazing people. And thank you for making my hard days better. I can’t say how thankful I am to you two and your channel. Thank you thank you thank you.
Bonus "Husband does my makeup challenge."
Thank you for this video. I've been struggling with my asthma, I hurt my foot going down stairs, and feeling like a burden. Thank you for the positive reminders. #buildaladder.
Oh Simon, you are so lovely
OMG YOU KNOW ANNIKA! That's so great, everyone should check her out because she's adorable!!
I love Annika
I'm a newly graduated nurse. Every video you guys upload makes my day so much brighter. However, I especially love and appreciate these videos addressing your EDS. This video especially spoke to me. We always ask patients to rate their pain but don't always, as you said, dig deeper. Healthcare providers, especially nurses and techs, are first line advocates for patients with chronic illness associated with pain. Asking these pain related questions is a right we have to give to our patients. Thank you for sharing your experience, you are truly a beacon of light
Just wanted to let you guys know that I love these day in the life videos just as much as your "real" adventure videos. I love how you guys show the real and vulnerable side of yourselves with us, and I hope you guys never stop making videos 😊
EDS does suck! But thankfully I came across one of your videos recently and realized we have the same symptoms. Thank you so much for spreading EDS awareness! Knowing that others experience the same thing is so much better than a lifetime of misdiagnosis and not knowing.
Martina you are a blessing. So are you Simon. Thank you for making my day feel better.
The love you 2 have for each other warms my heart.
Not only is Martina a blessing in her friends lives, she a blessing to us too. You both are!
So glad you posted! Currently in the hospital with my son (he nosedived into a dollhouse required an operation to put his lip back together) your video got me through the waiting till he woke up part! Thank you!!
I noticed tape on your shoulder. Could you sometime do a video on your EDS and how taping helps? I have arthritis and Fibro and hurt a lot; would love to understand better how taping can help.
Seconding the love for KT tape. I also have EDS, and it's a wonderful support that can take the edge off some symptoms and is lighter that a full on brace. (Though if you need a brace, always use a brace over KT tape, you'll just end up injuring yourself more). The only problem I have with my EDS and KT tape is that I'm HUGELY allergic to the adhesive on some brands, so I would always recommend buying just one kind and trying it before expanding the collection. Hope we could all help! Best of luck my friend.
@@curiouscatalyst That is part of my problem; Im a BBW and they dont make braces that fit my body properly. So I thought why not KT tape. The adhesive allergy is the one thing Im worried about.
For some reason my youtube page did not show your new videos and I was so worried that something happened to Martina. Im so happy that you are still ok. Stay healthy and happy!!!
It's amazing how you guys are able to make me laugh, cry, learn, be inspired, and better understand things all in one video. If you ever have those totally justified "why me" moments, just think about all the people you've positively impacted because of your unique talents and your unique perspective. You always remind me not to take abilities for granted, to be ready for any challenges, and to be mindful of the hidden struggles some people go through just to live a normal day.
I love this new format you are trying lately. It gives me a lot of good things like comfort, happiness and words to describe what I am feeling and what my loved ones feels. Thank you.
Loving the Aggretsuko reference XD "PROTEIN!"
Martina, seeing your strength helped me get through a cancer diagnosis and a hysterectomy. Everytime things felt too hard I would stop and think about you living your life and still smiling
Yall are great. Such a blessing to me.
Lifting to be a better version of yourself is spot on.
🌈🦆🌟✨💖✨🌟🦆🌈couple of amazing duckies sharing and building and climbing their ladders
Simon you are making me ugly cry right now! I'm a fellow Zebra and it is so touching to see you commit to being stronger, but also you sharing your insecurities about body image. I can relate on both fronts so much and i love you guys soooo much!!!!
You guys always make me feel better. Thank you.
“A day in our life: a single handed adventure in Tokyo” *CHANGES TITLE*
I love this! I struggle so bad with body image issues and struggling to learn to love myself the way I am (I suffer from chronic migraines, back pain, and PCOS). You guys are always so positive, even on bad days, and it's very refreshing to see people today who try and focus on the positive rather than try and transform into something else.
Love you guys!! Thanks for sharing your lives with us.
You guys are a blessing in my life! Thank you for existing!
I also can't take compliments Martina >< it's too embarrassing and i do have some confidence issues as well
I want to move away from any focus on any compliments, so I say, thank you and try to change the focus or topic. I esp, hate it when people want to dig it in and say, 'no really, I mean it."
Watching Martina go through her problems actually helps me a lot. I have fibromyalgia and im in pain pretty much 24/7. I like watching you both together and watching how she handles her pain. I know there bts stuff that happens that we don't see but I have a pretty good idea of what its like
Thank you for sharing your story and struggles it makes me feel less alone
You got it Simon! Be as strong as you can be, strength doesn't always mean you look shredded. You could be physically stronger than a lot of those shredded guys! I'm barely motivated to workout cuz of all these Instagram fitness models. And hey I'm just a girl supporting herself with a full time job and it is so depressing to see these models but then hey I might be able to kick a hole through a door and they can't!
I’ve finally found my Simon, someone who knows I have chronic pain but loves me and stays strong when sometimes I can’t. Having someone who will support you through anything and everything is truly special.
Simon doesn't to feel so down about himself he's a big care bear for Martina and Martina is like a fairy full of energy even if she has pain she is over powering the negative u guys are the best power couple!❤
YOU GUYS ARE SO CUTE, helping me build my daily ladder
As someone who doesn't have a chronic pain issue but knows and has friends who do, I want to tell you Martina that you are NOT a burden. I know its embarrasing, but you really are a blessing and an inspiration. I show your videos to my friends to remind them that they aren't alone. Thank you for being so brave. Simon, dude, you absolutely are amazing. Go you for being such a loving, caring person to Martina and to yourself.
I love your dedication Simon. Balance is key. You're doing great!
These frikin cuties are always brightening my day ❤️🌸
