- We’ve shown you many places you can eat in Japan, but once your trip is done, what should you bring back with you? We’ll go over curry cubes, mayo, candies, and strange jellies, along with the best snacks and items you can buy, so you don’t waste too much luggage space on souvenirs people won’t like. And, hey, I'll finally show you how to make those pickles I've been raving about!
Also, none of this was a paid for product placement. We just really like these items. We'd tell you if it was sponsored :D

omg but kewpie mayo is really something tho
Ohhhh helllll yaaaas, once you kewpie you don’t go back!
@@stephiyan once you kewpie mayo, you can't KEWBACK!!!!
Right! Hears "Hello Darkness, my old friend".
It tastes so good, because of the MSG in it
My plan for my first day in Japan:
1. Convenient store
2. Grocery store
3. Bing Eat
4. Regret nothing
for me coco curry first and the sleep... supermarket ... binge eating again x3 xD
That’s what I did my first day in japan... it’s honestly not a bad way to start your day in japan lol.
If you can I highly recommend going or getting McDonald’s delivered and order everything you can’t get in your country. You will not regret it, I promise.
Gurl you have to try the egg sandwiches (so soft!!!) and eat the cup noodles right there in the store. The warm fried chicken too...
@@starsaint yes yes YES!!!😆 plus those cutlet sandwiches ( KUTOSANDO!!) and some yakisoba ( which is my favorite ) 🤤
Eat at coco curries too hehe

3 minutes in and this video has taken a turn. I can't stop laughing. hahaha.
Oh ho ho. But don’t all our videos take a drastic turn at some point? 😂 *food porn music plays as Martina talks to a bowl of ramen*
@@eatyourkimchi This is very true and one of the many reasons why I always come back for more. Haha. Quick question, have you two figured out how to steal the recipe from COCO curry hq for those amazing pickled veggies they have? My fiance and I always finish off the container whenever we go.
I died 😂
I've heard MEEMEERS for the FIRST TIME!!!! He was unusually high pitched ( because Martina dubs Meemers a lot in a different voice) and I love it!!
Rebecca Chia omg me too!!! Sooo freakin cute and loud and just 💕❤️💕❤️
Umm Martina's skin looks really good. GIRL DO YOU HAVE A ROUTINE YOU WANNA SHARE OR ARE YOU JUST BLESSED WITH GOOD SKIN GENES?!
Martina looks fabulous!
I know she has psoriasis/eczema, so I imagine she keeps up with a regular skincare routine. She probably learned a lot of skincare tricks living in Korea. Also, BB cream supposedly works wonders. And spuffs! (sunscreen)
Also, having EDS can make your skin look younger for longer; one of the few perks of this damn disease. I still get asked what year in high school I am all the time.
I'm helping out the lady that cleans my eyebrows at her shop and she's an absolute sweetheart and forced me to go and break and "enjoy CZcams" so I put this video on thinking I'd be safe.... it was on full volume, she was listening and the client was watching along. They laughed (they love you 2 now) but if this was anyone else 😅

And I completely agree with you Martina about the Furikake! Yumm ❤️
Im feeling a bit miserable and alone... And this video made me laugh quite a lot. Thank you. This really means a lot to me.

If you're visiting Japan and don't know what to get for your friends and family back home, head to a Japanese supermarket. You'll get all you'll need and more, and you won't have to reshuffle your luggage at the airport :D
Hi Simon and Martina! I used to work at Coco Curry in Hawaii and I have a peanut allergy. It wasn't until after two bowls of curry I realized I was having a mild allergy reaction to it and not a weird stomachache. I assume that's why Coco Curry tastes different, if not better, to other Japanese curries. I was wondering if you know if other Japanese curry restaurants or instant brands also include nuts in their recipe? Or if it's just Coco curry. Love your guy's videos, always puts a smile to my face :)
I have to order Golden Curry and furikake from Amazon :/
I made the mistake of wanting get things from the airport. We left on an early flight. One shop was open.... Go to the supermarket!
Super excited to go to the supermarkets. Month and a half till Japan!
Thanks for the tips! I'm going there in less than a month!
I feel a sense of justice from when Simon mentioned the difference between Mexican and regular coke. Thank you. 🤣🤣🤣👌👌👌💕
Also yes, supermarkets are the best.
So normally I do a little trick to skip all the ads on videos. But not for Simon and Martinas. I watch those damn ads because I know it helps support my favorite couple and the videos they love to make and I love to watch. You guys are amazing
Share the trick for other videos? LOL
"regular coke vs. mexican coke" glad to know that is my land's legacy.... Much love from Mexico btw
Gabriela Vega Which is simply Coke made with sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. In the USA, the price of sugar is artificially inflated, pushing companies to use the corn products. In other parts of the world this is not true. White sugar is SWEET, but not as sweet as HFC. A lot of people (including my family) prefer the less sweet versions. HFC is also very addictive and spikes blood sugar super high - it’s responsible for a certain amount of diabetic conditions and weight gain.
I went to Arizona for the first time during the winter, and had Mexican coke for the first time. I think mart of my affection for it is I love glass bottles, but that stuff was so good!
What I really appreciate and find you guys are unique with is that you don’t just go “HERES THE STUFF GUYS LOOK AT IT CAN YOU SEE IT”, you always take time to show how you use and enjoy these products too! Thanks for being so awesome!
That’s really nice of you to say. Thank you!
Can we all take a moment for the Totoro plate that Simon used!!! 😍

Finally the Japanese cucumber recipe! I've been waiting for this!!
Yess!😍
I always love the variety of your channel- everything from exotic trips to just simple, fun, informative videos like this. Above all, I love your love for life, and your willingness to always explore and try new things! Also, thank you Martina for your uplifting post on Facebook the other day. I've been dealing with some health issues for some time now, and you've really inspired and encouraged me to not give up and to build my own ladder. Thank you both for sharing your stories!
I went out with someone from Japan for a few years, and there were two food commandments that still stick in my mind.
1. ALWAYS buy Kewpie mayonnaise. DO NOT buy any other kind - ever.
2. There is no such thing as too much Kewpie mayonnaise.
This video was brilliant haha I want dem jellies! 😏
You would, wouldn’t you! 🥴

Hi, north korian. we`r tired of korian.
Martina seems really happy and in good health in this video! Y’all are the best!
I live in Texas and my local Asian store recently started selling kewpie mayo after I watched this video and I took it as a sign of divine intervention and bought the mayo 😂😂😂
omg idk why i thought that i was the only person who gets excited over supermarkets when traveling!!
Also, NOTIFICATION SQUAD! What is your favourite flavour of jelly candy?
Melon! Make that warm melon ;p
Between cherry and peach!!!!!! But i don't know many exotic flavors.
The green gummy bears! It blew my mind when I found out the Greek was strawberry and the res was raspberry
I'd choose apple!
Yeeees a new video!!!!! Wuhuuuuuu 😍😍
WAIT! STOP! did Simon just say he didn't use ranch anymore?!?!?! 😱
The world I grew up in is gone...
TheRealSala That’s the downside to having millions of followers that know your favorites.....expect to receive it all the time in the mail. 😂 I’m thinking he got sick of it. Nearly every package they’ve opened for years has had a bottle, dry packs, or multiple of each. 🥴 😂
I'm still trying to process that
The scene of Martina having candy rain on her then realising the reality of it, them candies will scratch - it's too adorable xD
“And then they kinda like, “American Pie” it-“
And I screamed 😂
The whole jelly thing. I was laughing so hard while simultaneously wishing it was a thing I did not know 😂 Thank you Simon for trying to share the local culture.
I just got the message that I didn't make it to my college of choice. Was kinda bummed out.. but your videos really cheer me up! Thanks for uploading it on a day that I really needed it!❤
I swear by Kewpie mayo...soul crushingly delicious is an understatement. It's like spiritual enlightenment in mayo form.
In Australia, some Woolworths have kewpie mayonnaise and I literally eat no other mayo
THE PATRONUS FURIKAKE CRACKED ME UP SO HARD😂
Dancing Blue sparkling bottles, little packets or oddly shaped seasoning dust?? I'm confused.
Honesty I love the souvenir culture!! I wished it existed around the globe. It’s such a beautiful cultural aspect. Yes, it can be a hassle but in my opinion it really shows you care about those around you.
Jaemin huh I never really thought about other cultures not giving souvenirs 🤔 It can be hard when you’re younger and you have a lot of family members but not a lot of money lol. And it kinda kills the vibe when someone just expects a present and doesn’t care about your trip. But I love finding something that reminds me of a specific person and then seeing their face when I give it to them!
Supermarkets? Absolutely- even traveling to other regions within the US and seeing really different products is fun. I send pictures to our kids of the unusual things I see while shopping.
*jelly scene
Simon: Any questions?
Me: Yeah, wtf
I have a mild obsession with lychee konyaku jelly. When I go grocery shopping and I find that it's in stock I usually get it as a treat for doing errands XD
Traveling around supermarkets is totally NOT weird! I love doing that is every country I visit! Best way to get a feel of everyday life in that country. Supermarket or outdoor markets are great!
My mom is a chef so we always check out all the grocery stores. It's so interesting to see what stores stock in different parts of the country, and even town to town!
*irl gasp* SIMON NOT USING RANCH???? B-But 50% of the time I see ranch in the stores, I think of Simon's addiction! Q_Q
Bryton Jenkins It’s good to cut back on it though, it’s a common addiction, but not a healthy one. More advanced tastebuds begin to enjoy flavors instead of constantly looking for that flavor over-punch.
I HATE American mayo....BUT JAPANESE MAYO IS GOD!! Okay...that is all
EyeHeartThePanda Amen!
Sadly, Japanese mayo has too much sugar in it, for me... Maybe I should try making my own with a non-nutritive sweetener. #ForScience
How would you describe the difference?
Ada ada I have both and I honestly can’t tell the difference I use the Japanese mayo just because it’s easier to control.
@@Ada-me6ge Japanese mayo is sweeter, richer, and has a thicker texture.
So for people in North America (specifically those located in the Midwest): if you want to try the stuff that they mentioned in this video, go to Jungle Jim’s in Fairfield Ohio. I went yesterday and found most of everything in this video and some other yummy things that they have showcased in other videos. The only thing I couldn’t find was that specific candy and the Chinese cucumbers. I just made tuna with kewpi mayo and Simon was not lying, it was tasty. Not only that but they have sections for many many other countries.
I always went to supermarket when travelling. Each country has their own taste in their supermarket. I always find best gifts to give to friend after travelling in supermarket. It's just awesome!
Food is thoroughly infused with culture, so souvenir food really is the perfect choice. Thanks for the tips!
Simon- I don’t use ranch dressing anymore.
Me- whaaaaaaaaaaat?!?!
What ranch tastes like? I don't have it in my country
I love Japanese supermarkets. For non-edible gifts I like to go to 100 yen shops (e.g. Daiso) and just get a bunch of little cute things - anything from stationary, school supplies, stickers and decorations, to kitchen sponges, tissue packets, or even nail trimmers (they have cute ones!). Most 100 yen shops also have Made-in-Japan dishware that’s really impressive for the price. Dollar store gifts might seem boring or cheap in theory, but in my experience Japanese 100 yen products are pretty good quality and people really love those kinds of practical-yet-unique gifts.
Every time I wander through a new city, I find a reason to visit any grocery provider. I am enthralled by what a new food the place can bring me. Gets my hunter-gather instincts all in a frenzy. Must hoard new foods.
I feel like this video will get Demonetized because of Simon. Lol 😂
Girl! That headwrap/liner-less look isgorgeous on you!
I have the Pokemon furikake! 😂That's hilarious! My favorite is the salmon. But the vegetable ones pretty decent too. I would have to say a lot of these things are great gifts especially for somebody that cooks. Daishi teabags are awesome, because they're such a time and space saver.
Would love a part 2 to this video. Seeing you guys geek out like this is the best!
I live in the usa, I work near a Japanese grocery store. I switched to using that Japanese mayonnaise brand about two years ago. It is so much better then the stuff made here.
NO ONE ELSE EVER UNDERSTANDS THE GRAPE THING
I had grape flavor grapes for the first time in Korea XD I always thought grape flavor was nothing like real grapes.
How can i donate money to you for your videos? I think they’re great and you’re like the only youtubers i don’t mind giving money to.
They have channel memberships you can do that are about 5 bucks a month! You get some extra videos once a month or so to enjoy and some special emojis in live chats you can use. Otherwise, you can just catch them in a live chat sometime and do a super chat for whatever amount you want to send them. Hopefully CZcams adds some levels into channel memberships soon, I know a lot of people would definitely like to donate more than $5 a month!
For the totally broke (such as myself atm), just turn off adblockers and don't skip ads when they play, and then they can receive money that way. Then it's not costing you anything but time to donate, but they still get something from it (so they can keep funding more expensive fruit videos lol).
こんなに日本の物を褒めてもらえて嬉しい🇯🇵🤗
You two are truly unique when it comes to your content! I have never seen a video like this with so much fun but so educational at the same time. Proud nasty over here!!
Soo agree with the Jap mayo can buy them in Australia Woolworths so easily usually $7au for a big 700g mayo or $4-$5au for a small 200g mayo. My partner and I can go through 1 in less than a week hahaha we absolutely love it
If you have an Asian grocer near you, sometimes they have 1kg bottles for $10! Same with Furikake and various packs of Curry Roux.
yeah boi!!!!!!! woolies for the small bottles, Spud Shed (in WA) for the biiiiig assssssssss bottles
My Mom says it tastes like all fashioned salad dressing more than mayonnaise. It also reminds her of Cool Whip mayo, which is not her fave, but she likes Kewpie more. Asian markets often have it. :)
I just bought some of the Kewpie Mayo today at my local Asian mkt. That stuff is the bomb!
I'm so glad you brought up Kewpie mayo, literally SO GOOD.
I got my entire family obsessed with Kewpie mayo!! It's nothing like the mayo they sell here in America. I eat it with chicken and it's so magical.
The only CZcams channel I have my notifications on for! ❤️💜💜💜✨✨✨✨

I've loved konnyaku for my whole life. I'm glad Simon has been converted XD
Specially with that slogan 😂 For special a special time make it konnyaku time. 😂😂😂
I'm Belgian, we're pretty obsessed with mayonnaise. Kewpie mayonnaise truly is delicious 😊 The only brand I've had that I love even more is Devos Lemmens.
I want to look for and try Devos Lemmens mayo but I don't know if it is sold in Japan.
Yes!!! New video is always nice for the end of the day!!
Love going to supermarkets when I travel abroad. Gives a sense of what it's like living there and I like to see how packages are different. I usually hit the drinks, chips, snacks, candies, and gum.

I have often thought when I go what to get for people
This has given me a lot of ideas 😊❤
Martinaaaa where'd you get that gorgeously beautiful looking head wrap from I love the colors 😍😍😍😍
En Igmah Actually I got it from the friend I talked about in the video who eats the package, Ryan, he’s an artist! HauserHands is his art name.
He gave me that sushi shirt everyone loves and also this huge scarf. I wasn’t sure what to do with it so I googled it and was able to make this colourful head wrap. We’ve known him since we all lived in Korea together! We were all team Korean indie music.

I LOVE VISITING SUPERMARKETS. And also convenience stores. I'm fascinated by the "normal" everyday food that people that actually live in places buy day to day. Just leave me to wander around a grocery store in a new country, looking at the food, people watching, seeing what they buy... I LOVE THAT SHIT
This video is so useful and helpful. Thanks you!
