      @@9175rock Why would they cover them? It is more easy to clean up if having hard floor instead of carpet. Also there is no insect problem (Sorry for my bad English)

    Wash the floor with Murphy's oil soap to get rid of the residue. Then you can go to Home Depot in the flooring department and ask for "Quarter Round" moulding. Be sure to bring your linear measurement and if you have a loose piece of flooring to match it up for color!! xx

  • @TarnishedTreasures1
    @TarnishedTreasures1 Před 6 lety +107

    A piece of trim called quarter round would have finished off that area when the hardwood floors were originally installed. Quarter round was removed to put the tack strips and carpet down. Installing the quarter round molding will cover up the issues.

    Hi. I love your floors. You did a great job! When I was 10 years old, my grandmother had me pull up her carpet to reveal the hardwood floors underneath. We ended up using quarter round on the gaps. We did allow for the wood to expand and contract with the weather (so allow for a gap, just not as big- lowes or home depot personnel should be able to advise you on the correct size quarter round for your area). One thing to consider-dust. My grandmother's floors required a lot of sweeping. Dust can become extremely slippery. I would definitely invest in something like a swiffer for picking up the dust as opposed to pushing it around with a broom. Another thing to consider- is temperature. My grandmother's house is a ranch model. During the winter her floors were really cold. We ended up putting down area rugs from late fall to early spring. I have heard, but not verified that Habitat for Humanity will come and remove things like old kitchen cabinets, sinks, toilets, and fiberglass tubs for free in exchange for being able to keep what they remove for resale. Yes it needs to be in good usable condition. They are also a good place to go and shop when on a tight budget. Just thought I'd share that possible avenue if you end up renovating a bath or kitchen.

    We had that same issue at our first house along the edges. We hand sanded and matched the stain. The gaps we were told to not touch because they are there to let the floor expand in the changing weather and temperatures. I’m amazed you busted that out by yourself!

    I think you can put like a corner (quarter) round down around the edge of the room. It will just add a little bit to your baseboard. It's about an inch wide and will hide the holes and most of the damage. The floors are gorgeous though.

    The floor around the walls is fine. The gaps are to allow the wood to expand and contract. The difference in color is because the floors were probably stained with the quarter round in place. Just go to Lowe's and buy new quarter round and apply to the bottom of the trim. You will need to stain it. Looks good!

  • @LynneWright
    @LynneWright Před 6 lety +1

    I love watching you do home improvements, it’s so satisfying isn’t it? I agree with most of the comments, get a quarter round to hide the gap and allows expansion. Also living with dogs and hardwood a Swiffer is a must have. I purchased or they can be made, reusable duster covers from flannel. There is no need to waste money on the disposables when you can just toss reusable ones in the wash and save money. Did you try Murphy’s Oil soap and a plastic scrubby on the discolored areas? It may help.
