- Episode 157 - Last week was the Rodney Cook weekender, this week was Detectival, metal detecting in England. And what a weekend it turned out to be, towards the end of Sunday on the only bit of pasture I could find I dug 2 full gold sovereigns practically in the same hole. Not only that but I got to share it with all these amazing people around me at the time!

Hi Paul, ye the 1,000 acre of cultivated fields were baron. I had a great feeling about this small bit of pasture and battered it for 2 days and up popped these 2 stunning sovereigns 😁

Hi mate, yes well worth the 300 mile round trip. I had an amazing time with or without the sovereigns, it was like a CZcamsr convention 🤣🤣🤣 There were at least 3 other gold coins found by others

Cheers Stewart, you hit the nail on the head there mate - hard work. Yes there are lucky guys who pick up a machine and find a gold coin on their first swing. But there there are guys who are out there every weekend, week after week racking up thousands of hours in the fields. I've done 8 very long years and been in the right place at the right time 7 times now 😁 In the end its the hard workers that are rewarded the most. Thank you 🍻

Hi Andy, yes mate a really weird chain of events happened on that Sunday. I was fooling my friends with that 50 cent pretending I foubd gold. Then I bunped into Bondi n we joked about finding gold, then I bumped into the guy who found an Edward VII sovereign THEN I found 2 sovereigns myself. Ya just can't write it, crazy crazy day, amazing weekend, just awesome!!!

Really pleased for you mate, what a difference from the last rally, eh? Maybe there is something to be said for these things after all ;) the small silver coloured item on the chain is surely a cufflink? So many modern coins in one field, I'm thinking maybe it has been used as a camping site.
Cheers mate, ye slim pickins for me at Rodney Cook while everyone else was finding Saxon, Roman and medieval coins. Detectival finds were sparse but that pasture saved the day for me. They do events on that field amd yes camping, so many modern coins and trash. But in amongst it all gold coins 😁

So glad when I found out you had dug 2 of them! Really appreciate your humility and honesty. It shows in your videos. Yep the hammered gold came up on the ploughed field next to the tents. And a Mint William gold guinea came up just over the other side of the runway. And I heard there was another gold on that field too further up in the direction of the arena.
I eventually got to the pasture after hunting the faraway detected out fields for the ancient stuff and started to find a good spot then it was 6pm and chucking off time.
Its a little bizarre how there were very few finds made, yet 6 gold coins came up... Really bizarre. I fully expect to receive plenty of negative comments on this one 🤣

The coin shooting was almost like being back in Derbyshire but the gold changed all that.It's a special feeling when you first see that golden glow in the hole and to then do it again with an audience was great.I have had Sovereigns and you never forget the day you find them.
Ayup Dave, yes mate special moments there shared with friends, viewers and randomers cheering. On the whole it was hard going on the cultivated fields. But I'm a pasture man so I was clinging to this tiny bit of pasture all weekend and boy did it pay off 😁🍻

Luckily enough I don’t have to go too far to get a decent pasty and yeah Ash does seem like a top bloke, in fact everyone did, a great bunch of people, defines what the detecting community is all about. 👍
Just watched the video. Much anticipated 😄 Great to see the excitement on that 2nd. Everyone loved it. I think there were good targets in the fields too but the high mineral content made it very difficult. That and the thousands of nails masking them 🤪
