Hi Gary. I am here in the state of Utah. I don't have any questions. I just got an Orx with the 9" H.F. coil. I am finding coins and relics every place I have pounded to death with all my other machines. A few days ago I dug a 1904 nickel in coin deep at 14". That was 3" deeper than any coin I have found. Love your videos, they are very informative and very helpful to us who are just learning the XP machines.

Gary, I dig every signal that I hear! As you say, you never know just what that iron target is going to be! I tend to find a lot of US Civil War cannon shell frags, stirrups, old padlocks, gun parts, gun tools, and I even found a small-caliber pistol. I love digging with folks that refuse to dig the iron! All the more goodies for me. I also like to clean up the environment so recycle all the trash finds so I don't dig them up a second time! All finds are good for me! ;-)

The majority of people liken detecting to bingo and put too much faith in the screen numbers. The ground matrix or an iron target next to a good target can alter the numbers and sound dramatically. That’s why it doesn’t take much effort to remove a little bit of soil and then re-scan a target. Like you said complacency about iron targets is definitely leaving a lot or good targets in the ground, whether they be ancient iron artefacts or good targets masked by iron. Thanks for sharing your knowledge as always!

I found the cast iron front of an old wood stove made in the 1800's. It was where a railroad station once was. The line ran from Las Vegas to a town named Rhyolite. When gold mining faded into history, so did the railroad that serviced the area. I was hoping to find the boardwalk where trains were boarded. No luck. A highway replaced the railroad and underground cables were put in for internet. I hope to go back to have another look. The trains stopped running in the 1920's and sat dormant until the rails were needed and removed for WWII. Nothing there to see, but you can still see the roads that went there on Google Earth, (desert area).
Human history is quite young here compared to Europe, so we take what we can get. A coin from the 1800's is a thrill.

On the beach, I use the gold program and often go with a "0" ground balance. This ground balance cuts off mineral stones with an iron double tone on our beaches. Many people have a negative attitude towards "0" ground balance, considering it to be wrong. But air tests have shown that at "0" ground balance, the depth of gold detection is not lost. "0" ground balance can be used on wet sand. This ground balance is not suitable for walking on water or in sea water.

I purchased the XP ORX basically to find my diamond ring that I lost, either in the woods with a few brush piles, or it was lost in a field. Since I’m looking for this specific item, what setting should I keep the machine on? When switching from gold to coin, the tones and numbers are so different I feel like I could easily be missing the correct target sound. Should I look at the numbers on the screen, or just listen to the tone? Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Hi Gary! I have the following doubt. For what reason in the discrimination parameter there are values such as 7.0, these rise and fall from 5 in 5 and after passing the number 10 already advances 1 in 1, and I can reach 70 for example. What objects are discriminating on those values? Thank you very much

    • @The-skillschool
      @The-skillschool  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Nivel
The lower iron range can require a finer discrimination.
Some people may only want to locate specific highly conductive targets, so they will reject everything below 60 for example.

Hi buddy, thanks for your question.
Gold mode uses a different discrimination platform compared to coin mode.
I think you need to work much slower and gave a good ear for Gold mode.
It can also be deeper on big targets. 👍

The vlf detector have their "own physical laws" and limitations.
A tiny flake of gold like a sand grain can be found at 5cm, a matches head sized nugget can be detected at a depth of 10cm. The maximum depth detection of bigger nugget maybe 50cm. This for similar detector like the superb Makro Gold Kruzer, although the xp oxr is little superior.

At a higher ground balance, the device does not see deep for some targets. When you turn on the "salt" mode, the device stops phantom, but the scanning depth decreases again ???

      Hi Jerrett
If you think about it, a detector is designed to find metal, discrimination is mainly based in conductivity...., so many non ferrous targets fall within the same conductivity range, it's not a good idea to reject them. Most people reject Iron only.
