Dear Debbie, I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate and enjoy you and your videos. I've been following you on CZcams for the past two years now and this is the first time I've written you a comment, so please bare with me... Up until now there hasn't been one bad or boring video by you (I'm not just saying that) 🙂. Kidding aside I was honestly blown away with most of them. Your attitude and passion towards skiing as a sport in general and all of it's aspects is simply fenomenal. There are a lot of ex World cup skiers and Olympians out there but none have this kind of content with such thural and unselfish approach. I've been skiing for most of my life (I started from age 1) I'm 39 years old. Skiing is my greatest passion in life so I've been reading a lot about the equipment, technique, apparel, listening to podcasts and watching videos especially for the past 7-8 years now... But I have to say that you're content is without a doubt the best and the most open, honest and useful of all 👏👏👏 👌 so thank you very much for that. I'm thinking of changing professions to start this winter as a ski instructor (I have the certification) and I'm using your material as guidance. If you have some advice on which material for ski instructors I should read or watch I would be really thankful. Sorry I was too extensive and thank you once again. Big hello from a big fan from Belgrade Serbia 🇷🇸 🙂🙏
Debbie, you are cool! My son asked me and my wife, for differences between US and Germany, they discuss that in the english lesson at school. I sad, beer, my wife sad bred. She is doing the same like you, we call it Sauerteig, typical german bred. We appreciate your teaching, its fun. Greetz from Germany
More reasons I love you: great simple usable ideas, crystal clear instruction, the bread, the oven, the dog, and the love between you and your dad; he's cool!
Never read about walking on my heals. Raising the heels is what everyone would say. At work I would stand with a 2 x 4 under my heels and stretching forward. Thanks Deb, your just so help full.
Ditto what everyone else says about how helpful this video is and how Charming your love for your family and life is. But is anyone else going to mention the amazing artwork in her kitchen? Love that!
I love your videos! I’m a late bloomer skier. Started all over at 50, as part of my grief process after my Mom passed away. Wound up on Snoqualmie Pass. Fell in love with the mountains. Bought a ski condo at Alpental. Taught beginner ski lessons last year! You’re very inspiring and positive❤️🙏
I cannot express how helpful it was to see your dad doing this exercise! Your instructions to him really made this click in my mind. Appreciate everything you do for the sport.
Skiing aside, Deb's personality, teaching style, and infectious attitude is inspiring and aspirational. I can only hope to offer such positivity and support to the people in my own life. I came to become a better skiier - I stayed to become a better person! Right on!
Been trying to convert my wife to a skier, the kitchen exercises im now doing are not convincing her. She's in hysterics. Anyway thanks for a great video. Didn't have a season in Australia and my Northern winter travel plans are unlikely so may just build an oven.
Deb, I love your channel. I’m a PT in Chelan , WA. I treat many older adults, and There are studies that show that one of the biggest limiters to continuing to stay active, strength wise, is general calf weakness. So, limiting loss Of calf muscle mass is always part of the strengthening plan for any of my patients. Great episode, and the bread looks tasty too.
Americans are so enthusiastic about there coaching! reminded me of my basketball coach from the US, just really concise and enthusiastic with a little fun thrown in!
Thank you Debbie for your videos. As a long time instructor, racer I love & appreciate your enthusiasm for sharing your knowledge with the public in “normal” terms. Incredible work.
Dear Deb, It is my honour to talk and seek advice from a retired World Cup Alpine ski winner!!! I am resident in Hong Kong and also a ski enthusiast (intermediate level skier feel comfortable on red and single diamond tracks). I watch lots of Deb's ski coaching video on CZcams and feel you are my online instructor. Unfortunately, I am unable for ski training for coming winter season due to lock-down in Hong Kong. In Hong Kong there are two alternatives indoor ski training available at this moment: (1) Skytech - ski simulator allow trainer for body rolling on computerized platform or (2) MaxxTrack - carpet ski. One of the ski training shops told me that Skytech able to train skier for developing deeper edge angle. However, I just feel (without scientific support) MaxxTrack simulates better downhill condition (i.e. I can perform steering, edging and short turning exercise on MaxxTrack freely). For Skytech machine, it seem that my foot locked on two pedals and perform edging exercises only. I guess Maxxtrack is better than Skytech in overall training (but unable to verify my observations without independent and professional judgment). Would you provide some advice (i.e. pros and cons for two different kind of training machine) such that I can make-up conclusion by myself. Thank you for your help Brian Remarks: two type of machines video are shown below Maxxtrack - czcams.com/video/hwGqj4jlo_M/video.html Skytech - czcams.com/video/JSZYOQPFKfo/video.html
You still got it Hugh!! So great to see your Dad. We miss him in Seattle but glad he's with you and happy. Nice tribute to your Mom with the great adobe oven. And that bread! Yum!! Oh, and btw, I love working on those movements. It's time to get psyched for the season. Let's go!
What a cool video.I have watched many of your on the hill videos but this one was nice and different. The bread, the oven, Charlie, Dad and some cool off hill exercises. I love the hell walking/dorsiflexion exercise. I always feel those muscles at the beginning of the season. Thanks Deb!
Both my skiing and sourdough have a long way to go in comparison! Thank you so much for your fabulous advice, it's clear and sensible and I love watching your videos. You're a great inspiration ☺️
They closed the ski season here this year,(Victoria Australia) I'm an absolute bigginer, so I stick with yr videos as they're so instructional and positive. Hopefully next year I can try it out for real. Thank you.
Dear Deb, I follow your posts with great interest! I make my living in real estate development, but teaching skiing has been my passion for over 40 years. In addition to your instructional videos, I love how you are pushing the group to grow personally! In addition to your work to expand diversity in the ski industry, I especially loved you calling out the old timers group to stop the misogynistic comments!! Like you, my instructing passion has moved to the younger skiers. The favorite part of my season are the park and recreation classes that run for six weekends after the holidays. I have many kids returning for multiple seasons. It is so much fun to watch them develop athletically, and personally. We have stayed in touch via group text over the summer, and I have been sending preseason exercise ideas to build enthusiasm for the upcoming season, and to stay in touch. To this end, will you please continue to post preseason exercises that I can use with my kiddos? Have a wonderful season, and please keep the fantastic contact coming. I teach at a wonderful little ski area in Flagstaff, Arizona called SnowBowl. It pairs perfectly with a trip to the Grand Canyon, or Sedona. Please consider dropping in if it ever fits in your schedule. Warmly, Philip
Love this video. I too use my kitchen as a gym - calf raises, side to side, squats. I will now try the heel walk as well. Thanks so much for all of your content. I can't wait to get out there and try some of your drills and skills if only it would snow.
Deb, I love your videos... I love watching them before I hit the slopes on Saturdays. I snowboarded for 25 years... I skied a little bit grown up in California but not enough to consider myself a skier.. My oldest son started skiing this year and so I took a lesson with him and immediately came back to me but I've been taking private lessons all year and watching your videos before I go up and my skiing is really improved. That's sourdough starter looks delicious by the way... I pulled out my flour I'm going to start my own starter after watching that again. Love your vibe.
Oh wow I have these muscles because I am ex-dancer. Knew they'd be useful for something! Also good because I have a short achilles tendon.....my dorsiflexion compensates. Love your Dad's appearance in the film!
Thanks Deb for sharing all these instructions, I enjoyed your dad and even the dog drinking water during the video. It will be my first time ever skiing next week at Squaw Valley.
Great video. As a beginner I am always looking for exercises I can do at home when I can’t get to the mountain. This is exactly what I was looking for to practice some of the principals you’ve been talking about. Your content is excellent. Keep it up!
Awesome! Loved the bread. Starting making it in March (like everyone else). Loved your approach. Also the whole vid. Just brilliant. Blessings, Peace and Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Deb! Love the video as always. I think I really need that sourdough recipe! And perhaps granola as well. Maybe that’s the next step... skier baking and foods at home from Deb!!😘
Another good video, easy to understand. As you said in a previous episode, the amount of weight on the inside ski is situational, and what is very important is that the inside ski must be touching the snow, otherwise your hips may not move away from your skis.
I just went skiing a couple days ago in horrible slushy and icy conditions and I couldn't get out of the backseat no matter what I tried. It lead to my quads getting fried real fast, which has never happened too me before. I'm hoping it was mostly due to the cruddy conditions, but it made me aware that I'm still an intermediate skier with a lot to learn. Now I'm trying to learn through videos until next season, so thanks for the simple leg explanation.
@@DebArmstrongSkiStrong Wow!! What a wonderful tradition! And such talent! Eyeing my own cabinets now and wondering if some collaborative redecorating is in order
You are the most personable ski instructor ever! Now all I need is to finish my kitchen remodel to have the proper countertop tops spacing for that exercise and some sourdough! That bread looks like a mogul; you should bake Deb’s sourdough moguls.
You are an amazing soul! These simple tips has atomic size benefits for me. Saying “thanks” doesn’t define how happy I am to get back in my skis with more confidence. You Angel you! 😇😇😇
Thanks for giving us a glimpse of your personal life, along with all the great help with our skiing. I suggest you read the novel Sourdough by Robin Sloan. the lead character builds her own bread oven in her backyard in San Francisco. Then, unexpected things happen with her dough.
Hi Deb, I have just recently been made aware of your great videos after taking a ski lesson. Firstly, I want to thank you for being so positive and breaking things down to the simplest level while making skiing seem hopeful and possible for beginners. I am having a hard time with the weight transfer. This became very clear trying the indoor exercise where I find most of my weight to be on the inside leg while I do the tipping. I find the pinky toe edge of my inside foot wants to take most of the weight. I am only able to do it if I put most of my weight in my arm into the counter. Where is the weight in the outside foot? Is the weight mostly on the inside edge of the outside foot, centered in the middle of the foot, or focused on pushing on the outside edge of the outside foot to bear the weight? Thanks!
I have been trying to think of a good way to get my 5-year-old son mentally “warmed up” for ski season, and these home drills just might do the trick! He started to trade in his snowplow turns for carved turns at the end of last season so I think he’s on the cusp of a breakthrough this season.
I love all your videos Deb! Thank you for sharing them. Can you please clarify the idea of “driving the inside leg?” I initially thought that meant driving it forward in the turn. I’ve since come to understand how a forward leg prevents us from flexing the inside leg over the ski. I’m still not clear what “driving”the leg means. Is it as simple as being active with it rather than letting it just float along for the ride? Thanks again for sharing all your knowledge 🙏
I tried these today. The walking on my heels is REALLY hard. I keep falling over. But with my disability I have very little dorsiflexion. I hope that these exercises will help me. I also have a five pound weight plate that I am going to put on top of my foot and try to lift it with keeping my heels on the floor to strengthen those muscles. I like baking bread too. I love your outdoor oven and the pretty pictures on your cabinets

Deb it's wonderful to hear you articulate your thoughts and in this case ski instruction in a fraction amount of time that most others cannot! I know it will take some time but perhaps you teach Charlie to tip his paws into the turn!
I actually started doing this in my kitchen last summer when I was super hyped to get carving down and low and behold, I started the next season, day one, way better than I had ended the last. Looks funny but it really helps get the feeling down. Perfect replacement for the microwave dance (I can't be the only one, haha)

Very nice; I've been looking for something like this. Doing jumping exercises at the gym increased my vertical by a good 6 inches in just 4 weeks for volleyball... I'll be doing these exercises between now and December and I anticipate they will produce a similar dramatic improvement. Thanks Deb!

Very nice; I've been looking for something like this. Doing jumping exercises at the gym increased my vertical by a good 6 inches in just 4 weeks for volleyball... I'll be doing these exercises between now and December and I anticipate they will produce a similar dramatic improvement. Thanks Deb!
Great!!!!!!
It’s very helpful to see how your two feet (without boots on) are supposed to move to initiate a turn.
