  • In this episode we follow up last week's Upper Duffman by taking A Closer Look at Lower Duffman - a black diamond trail in the Garbanzo zone of the Whistler Bike Park. This is the longer of the two segments of this classic tech trail. Specifically, we look at the following features:
    00:44 Rock Rolls
    02:55 Ride Around
    03:26 Ladder Bridge
    03:48 Gnar Path
    04:45 Rock Roll/Drop
    06:11 Last Rock Drop
    07:12 Wall Ride
    Many thanks and a big shout out to Candace Shadley, Joe Riddell, Mike Manley and Paul White who helped in the production of this edit! Great shredding everyone!

    That first rock roll is so much scary than this video makes it look haha. Also that line with the v cut rock to rock drop is very tricky. All around, sick! I need to order a big bike ASAP!

      @Whitesnake2  Před 6 lety

      I know eh? I always say this trail is a pretty gnar single black diamond. That v cut rock to rock drop is totally difficult! And yeah man - big bikes are so much fun. Esp if you are looking to ride the park all day long. It'll definitely help to save your hands after 15 laps.

    Another great video!
    For 5:27, one of the Bike Park instructors said the fastest guys come in from the far right and actually bunny hop that little piece of wood to get up on to the flatter spot on the left. Gnarly line! I've smashed my pedals more than once there

    • @Whitesnake2
      @Whitesnake2  Před 6 lety +1

      Now that is some great intel! I guess you wouldn't want to get too far right though. Its pretty sheer there. Its a big big move! I think the big guys also drop the roller right after it too, which would be pretty big drop to roughly flat. Yikes! Thanks for watching Sean!

    Loving this series! cant wait to come back this summer and take a shot at the first roller, sat at the top of it for like 20 minutes befor i wussed out. Iv been trying to find a good video of it since! So thanks a ton for the tips!

    • @Whitesnake2
      @Whitesnake2  Před 6 lety

      I hear you on that. That scene in the video was last the last time I scoped that roller (that was my 63 year old dad and brother in law with me too btw). The very next time was also in the video when I hit it for the first time! I think the key is just to ease gently in and get on the right line at the top. The rocks below can deflect you pretty hard in any direction! Tbh like many moves in mountain biking it's all in your head. If you are comfortable on Drop in Clinic or Detroit rock City rollers then you got it!

      Whitesnake2 will do, by you showing the best lines to take helps put a lot! all I need is the confidence to commit when its time to hit it, thanks again for the tips

  • @slickmovedud

    That wall ride section looks super tight and difficult to get right. The only way i can think of to hold it would be to turn your tires so you aren't on the side. Or maybe it was just too dusty when you did it (although it being soaking wet won't help either). And the rock roll after that with the optional drop in the middle looks like a lot of fun. And then that last wallride just looks awesome.

    • @Whitesnake2
      @Whitesnake2  Před 6 lety

      I don't think I had enough speed to be honest. You really gotta boot it up in there to hold that wall and I don't think I rode it enough to give it a fair go of learning it properly. Next summer! I'd love to see some footage of someone cleaning it to get a better idea. Overall though this trail is a lot of fun, but its got some pretty gnar moves for a single black diamond. I'd even go so far as to say Lower Duffman is harder than No Duff, which is rated double black and flows soooo much better than Lower Duffman.

  • @hobmarg
    @hobmarg Před 6 lety +1

    Also 6:40 I never knew that was there! Cool!

    • @Whitesnake2
      @Whitesnake2  Před 6 lety +1

      yeah that is a fun, sweet, confidence inspiring line. I use it to practice rolling into the drop and pumping off the rock for the drop instead of just riding off. It's a blast and is WAY MORE FUN than going to the right.

    • @Whitesnake2
      @Whitesnake2  Před 6 lety

      Easy as man! Its one of the main tech trail, actually it is the main tech trail connecting Garbanzo and the Fitzsimmons zone! The problem is always the choice of trails from where Lower Duffman begins. There are just so many great options at that point: Side Track, No Duff, MacKenzie River Trail and of course Freight Train (its tough to pass up the last section of Freight Train!).

    Another great vid, thumbs up.
    What would you compare that first optional rock roll to in the park? I looked at it from the bottom and noped our down the ride around once. Looks like a harsh transition, but here you and Candace make it look so smooth.

    • @Whitesnake2
      @Whitesnake2  Před 6 lety

      it's not the smoothest transition tbh. It's chunky at the bottom and if you are offline even a bit you'll go into that stump. It's also quite steep. I was intimidated for a while, but it works you just gotta ease into it. Its definitely a double black option. A comparison? Hmmm... that's tough. No other roll really comes to mind. Sizewise it's a bit smaller than Drop in Clinic or Detroit Rock City but I'd say it's harder due to the rollout. I liken the approach speed to that first chute on In Deep, but to be fair I only rode it a few times this past summer (i tend to ride No Duff/Side Track instead of this part of Duffman) so I may not be the best source.

    • @hobmarg
      @hobmarg Před 6 lety +1

      I will definitely take a closer look (heh) at it next season and maybe watch someone hit it first. I hear you about No Duff, I usually take that as I prefer it to the first bit of Duffman. I don't think I hit Sidetrack once last season but I should revisit it.

    • @Whitesnake2
      @Whitesnake2  Před 6 lety

      Side Track is definitely worth a visit. I don't ride it as often as I would if it didn't spit me out half way down the Fitz zone, but every time I do it always puts a smile on my face. Without a doubt!

    Nice work, have you done Upper and Lower Joyride yet? wooden rollers always look tricky

    • @Whitesnake2
      @Whitesnake2  Před 6 lety +1

      Upper Joyride for sure! There may be an edit of that one soon! Lower Joyride not yet unfortunately. Last summer it felt like that trail was permanently closed. Heard it was cause the wood features had to be fixed and due to the fire hazard they couldn't get in there to do it?!? I look forward to the day! And yeah, those wood drops at the beginning look gnar!
