Nothing scares games' journalists worse than having to write about videogames
I would say it's a distant second to actually playing videogames.
@@naamadossantossilva4736They have the mystical eldritch ability to write about games without ever having played them. A terrifying and awe-inspiring power indeed.
They never finish a game because they are too pissed off 5 seconds into the opening cinematic. "No wheel chair bound paraplegic black lesbian satanists in this game?"
That's the problem. How to write a bunch of game guides when they cannot even finish them.
now we know where all the gender studies failures went after college.
Rest in piss Kotaku. They need to rename it, because its legacy has been blighted by woke activists.

Ahh Kotaku... I'll never forget the day they and their buddies all decided that "Gamers are dead" and "Gamers don't have to be your audience".
You think just cause you're a gamer, that games revolve around you?
Yes
I can't wait for the headline "Talentless -journos- propagandists are dead" and "Grifters don't need to be employed".
The more I think about it the less sense it makes, besides the obvious.
I get that the sentiment goes something along the lines of "the established community of what we now call 'gamers' should make way for casuals and people who don't play games because... inclusivity or something", but then those people, if successfully made to care about games, _would become_ gamers... so I don't get what they're getting at.

@@inendlesspain4724 The idea is that once the tourists take over, they can rewrite history and claim to be the ones who "fixed" the community.
Funny how so many of their writers are quitting because they now have to write about video games on a VIDEO GAME website.
50 guides, 7 writers. Thats 1 guide per day per writer. These sjw clowns are completely useless
These video game journalists.. *Facepalm*
Like is it a guide like gameguides? Gamefaqs step by step walk through? Cause if it is that means they have to play and complete a game
I do think it's all a test....
they make a insane demand, fire the head and right away some will quit due to the firing and the insane demand
as content rolls in I highly doubt they want stolen content, naww, they aren't enforcing an actual high output setup, it's there to weed out the losers, those who deliver but need time...again just a theory will be given time but those who keep throwing a tantrum will be let go, as all resistance stops then a new edict will, be handed down...
it could be a way to weed out the losers but they still need to lose the name cus it's for sure tainted....
like i'd never go there, I don't even watch their YT vids....I've accidentally clicked a few times and closed out right away and if i ever see the channel I say do not recommend and there's many channels I have to keep saying that for...
anyways TL/DR I think G/O's plan is to weed out the remainder of the losers....
Yup, people forgetting they got hired todo a JOB, not use it the same way they glue themselves to twitter.
Seriously, i wanna have some time in the future, where effectively every major and middle social media platform gets `shut down` for an entire week, once a year, just to see what happens, likely `these` kind of people would self destruct because they have to actually focus on thar job or maybe being video game writers, spend atleast more then 5 seconds on a video game in a 1 week span and realize, they actually LIKE the game because they think they are somehow allergic to the idea of `liking` the material they are suppose to cover.
...Which at that point why the fk arent you just getting a job at a grocery store instead of `working` at the place you are supposedly allergic to.
Because even the idea of them simply being stuck watching television with what might as well be no internet access to them, somehow feels like it would heal the internet in so many ways, if we actually had a FORCED PERIOD to cut such things off for a short while.
Just goes to show avoiding twitter permanently was a healthy move for me, now if only the lunatics could remember there`s a thing called `Self-reflection` and even a micro-second of that would likely be fantastic for them.

This is very similar to what happened at Deadspin. I followed them to Defector but that writing style and their ideology unchecked on a sub site - just a cesspool
If history repeats itself, there will be a 'Defamation Civil Suite' against Kotaku, and it would just go completely non-existent. And humanity would lose nothing. Because 'tabloid journalism' is nothing more than a plague on the people that read it.
They want to write about anything except video games.

YOU ARE FIRED.....as she grabbed her box wine and scuttled off to find another unsuspecting victim.
For those who weren't there, gaming journalism in the 90's and early 2000's (i.e. printed magazines) was a universe apart from what passes for journalism today. It wasn't perfect but you got more or less well-written articles that focused on *gasp* the games and the hardware used to run them. There might be an article here or there that could be thought of as an opinion piece but it was by no means the focus of the bulk of the coverage. It was a wonderful time that I doubt will ever return, sadly.
I remember Game Informer in December 1999 said by 2020, games would be a living virtual world and would have entire lives when you cut the console off and your in-game avatar would have an auto-pilot when you weren't playing the game, kinda like what GTA V ended up being. Yet, games in this era don't even work half the time upon release and are gatekept by the worst people in society (outside of American comics and Hollywood, I suppose; though they're all the same people.)
I miss PSM! (Playstation Magazine)
Yeah back then they had to sell magazines, now they just sell ad space.
I kinda agree. At least they were writing about games, not how awful gamers and how sexist games are. That being said, English language games media was already trash fire in 90's. It was already completely compromised as journalism. "IGN 7/10 access media" was already thing and actual journalists doing honest reviews instead of shilling for products advertised on the magazine were shown the door pretty soon. How do I know that? I used to read both English language and other smaller language gaming media. Smaller languages, read smaller markets for all intents and purposes, weren't being shilled as hard by publishers. That thing rapidly changed around mid 00's while print gaming media was on its last legs as relevant media. That is when publishers started flying journoscum to preview events and release parties halfway across the world even for smaller language markets.
@@paksoldat They were already selling about as much ad space as they were selling magazines in late 90's.

Gamers are not dead.
Gaming journalism is.
That's why the gaming industry itself still rakes in trillions (despite the games themselves being of poor quality, but that's besides the point) while the Journalism industry is closing down it's doors and increasingly going independent/private.
If the gaming industry starts making 50 % of their games towards their key demographic like they did before with no Ovidius political bias but entertainment for mostly young to middle aged males and women who don’t mind playing male focused games, then the gaming industry has nice prospects, especially if they make some games the old style with no in game sales, only for the game when you buy it and some free a financed in game, because the world of Warcraft monthly payment, pay for the game and in game store is not going to attract many players except for short periods where a special event or expansion is out and 1-3 months after.
The gaming industry will never "close" because tech addiction is high.

Technically they already did when Gawker media had to pay Hulk Hogan 100+ mil and couldn't. Kotaku has been sold twice. Univision bought them when Gawker went under and I assume they thought they were getting a turn key company, but sold all the Gawker properties plus the onion for a loss to G/O media 3 years later. G/O Media leadership are the ones pushing these properties to change their ethos, if you remember the whole Deadspin controversy where they told them to "stick to sports" and all the staff quit. Im the immortal words of Curly Bill:
"Well... bye."
Bless you sir, keep up the excellent work.
I've seen some people suggesting that this may be an attempt to clean house before closing the entire site down.
Their theory is this:
Management pivots hard to something the staff does not want to do, without straight up telling them to scrub toilets or something. Basically "We are a gaming site, and we're still going to be writing about games. This is a thing we do and have always done, we're just taking a different angle now" or whatever other bullshit spin they might put on it. This is in order to make the activist writers quit to avoid things like severance packages for firing them, since that wouldn't apply if they quit on the own.
Then, once everyone has left, they just pull the plug because the site isn't worth it anymore.
And it does sound somewhat plausible, assuming the upper management has regained some amount of sanity. Even if they were to clean up all the activists, get new writers who actually care about games, write content that is actually about games and not politics, etc. the name Kotaku is too hated to be worth recovering. Better to nuke the site, slap on a fake moustache, and rewire all the behind the scenes framework to launch Ukatok, a totally new gaming news site that has nothing to do with any existing (or previously existing, if they do this) ones, we swear.
Here's the thing. They have seven writers. All that "50 guides a week" means is one guide per day, per person. In other words, they had to actually do their jobs, instead of using the business for their activism. And they're acting like they're Joan of Arc being burned at the stake.
