As a 13 year old I was obsessed with this man after watching Chinese Connection for the first time. I lost count how many times I watched Enter The Dragon. I knew every move, every quote and soundtrack. I practised everyday in the back yard or garage. His stance, his kicks, his blocks and of course mannerisms. The kids actually feared me! Took classes in many arts growing up. At 64 years old, it's all still in my mind but not my body and I credit Bruce for giving me core, balance and awareness to this day.

The most important thing Bruce Lee did that isn't talked about was revolutionizing the way fight scenes are choreographed and shot, specially his wide angle and full view fight scenes. To this day not many have been able to capture what he could, maybe the Raid 2 is close and I'm talking about actual human movement not CGI! Also the fact that he created a new style to train actors how to look like real fighters on screen is incredible!

I increased significantly in my Kaji Kenpo class just watching Green
Hornet. However, when I saw his movies, learned Wing Chun, and
dissected his "JKD," my level of profiency went through the roof!
    This alone, proves Lee's excellence.

Pretty decently put together. My only complaint with all the Bruce Lee's documentaries is that the person he spent the most time with who knew the most about JKD never gets interviewed. Ted Wong. The only guy we ever hear from is the Gym teacher who was an earlier student who really never did much with JKD (Inosanto). He turned JKD into some "style" bs to sell classes. Ted was the guy who worked out with Bruce all the time. At the school, at home, at long beach at the tournament, overseas. Ted was his closest most trained student who had the most time with him. He fought with Bruce all the time. Even developed JKD footwork even further after Bruce died. Ted was an engineer. Inosanto was an Ed Parker student and a gym teacher. Not saying hes bad but he dont teach real JKD.

Like most great sportspeople, Bruce demonstrates that balance and coordination is extremely important if you want to be very good at any discipline. His sidekick demo 40:20 is a prime example. Good balance and good footwork should be every beginners focus.

That enter the dragon clip was a real one also - Bruce was teaching the audience . From what I know he asked to put that in the movie . It is also very beautiful in that it conveys a simple yet profound truth about learning the martial arts . Something that people just brush off and not truly get about learning techniques etc .

In about 99 % steet fights there's more punching envolved than kicks, throwing (judo,BJJ, Aikido) and if there's any kicking going on deal from the waist down, kicking to the knee, shin, groin and maybe the inner thigh but when your dealing with just hand techniques,EYE GOUGING is ideal, NOBODY CAN STAND UP TO THAT ESPECIALLY IF THE WOMAN HAS LONG FINGERNAILS, GUARANTEED !!!

I've been practicing Silat and Escrima since 1993 and Taiji, Bagua and Xingyi since 2008. I like practicing slow twisting and circling steps with blades. It nourishes my brain and I circulate my chi to stay healthy and massage my internal organs to stay soft and limber.
The first thing I would teach someone is how to relax and root and circulate Qi. After relaxing, someone can learn basic Gong Fu!
    Ginseng
A river of life through eyes
    Seen blue skies and dream
    Each day’s scene
A shade of green from the leaves
    Beautiful blossoms
    So many herbs
    Spirits
Here you find a shining light
    So bright
I want to train BJJ. I know how to close distance and execute takedowns and lock joints and all the Silat, but I don't know how to go prone and roll. I can lock joints standing but I'd rather take someone off their feet. I don't want to go prone but it's a good thing to learn.

No man on earth knew Bruce Lee's intent behind JKD than Dan Inosanto and only he was able to take it where Bruce wanted it. Yes, Dan kept adding new things but he was also helping Bruce Lee with his JKD developement project while Bruce was still alive. Dan had to have felt great dishonor by all of the JKD outsiders not respecting his efforts to keep the living JKD alive. Yes, JKD was a living martial art requiring continued innovation and was why the student could add only sound techniques that were in harmony with the spirit of JKD. The folly of a technique not in harmony threw the students JKD off balance and the style becomes irregular and unacceptable, especially by fellow JKD practitioners. Harmony, balance, innovation technique and speed were important pillars in understanding how JKD works. The compatability between Dan Inosanto and Bruce Lee was in being visionaries of a style that would be undeniably the most deadliest discipline in the entire world and due to it's living nature would remain that way as long as it is practiced. My honors to Bruce and Dan !

How to you evolve past simplicity and directness?

    • @peterkinberger9741
      @peterkinberger9741 Před měsícem

@@axelstone3131 through analysis. One must analyze and make comparisons. That is how it is done. The Tao of Jeet Kune Do makes that abundantly evident. Yes, directness and simplicity are virtues expressed in technique, knowing the most effective options and emulations for any given situation is the goal. We must constantly improve to master situations and that requires a lot of analysis and repetition. Be like water ! Some techniques are good for the instant but the best get filed away into the muscle memory file. One can use a technique and bring a man down then use it again on another person and he isn't phased. This is where you must analyze and learn to adapt a situation until you find the universal answer once found it is repetitiously refined into muscle memory and the results should be superior. It is not enough to be simple and direct, a lot of mind work and repetition is needed. Repetition can take your best effort and multiply it in power and speed, and is one of both Bruce's and Dan's keys to becoming a great martial artist. I hope this helps answer your question ! A friend always !

This is so interesting. Thanks for upload.
He is so fascinated by and appreciative of the elements in nature. Elements that is, for instance, water, and our physical housing - from the exterior wall to the internal components...every ligament and other cells and connective lines. I don't think he realized how quick and alert his "lights" are, the lights that are his eyes (vision), ears (hearing), etc. that houses speed, acuity, etc. He seemed more atuned to the brick-and-mortar of his existence - the physical body or housing. This is where he mostly added to, by himself, for himself, that which is useful. Unlike his speed, acuity, that had always been there and quietly progressed/learning along with his personal journey in the martial arts via the physical brick-and-mortar. They (sight, hearing, breathing, speed, acuity, etc) seem more like the somewhat neglected and quiet elder children, also added, became more, became wise...all by themselves. His philosophies are assistants on his journey. Philosophies are loud, making sure they must be actively assisting at all times. For the brick-and-mortar and quiet first (elder) children cannot be compromised, according to the philosophies, otherwise true journey to progress would be hampered. Unfortunately humans age, get injured, depreciate. Time would compromise the brick-and-mortar, the quiet first (elder) children. Only the philosophies would remain as active, evolving, uncompromised.
His "lights", or first (elder) children, similar to the motion sensing exterior lighting that we have to protect our homes. These lights quickly tell him, inside the home, to react, or respond, most appropriately. I would nickname them (the "lights") The 'Central Nervous System', and give merit to the numerous nerves carrying signals and to the blood vessels carrying cells creating a connective system in our total interior.
His philosophies, or assistants, are loyal, versatile yet unwavering. It is the brick-and-mortar that requests for the most attention, care, and progress.
If he were not an actor, of eastern heritage using western practicality, and wise in both hemispheres, then he would be whatever...but always "Bruce Lee."
Acting is not practical, but it gave him the opportunity to have many mates, all very different, on the vessel of the martial arts journey. He originated from east, went west, journeyed east+west to east again. The world is constantly in a state of flux, and he is constantly evolving, with his uncompromised philosophies. East+West+East' (East' a derivative) ...
    Happy journey Bruce Lee
    The Journey is happy

I never really understood this until now, at 35 years old, but the secret when it comes to combat (or any kind of serious danger scenario) is that if/when you find yourself in a situation where it legitimately feels like your life is in real danger, like if someone genuinely means to cause you great harm - it's never 'you' in that scenario; the 'other one' always takes over and does the thinking and acting for you.
It's hard to explain unless you've been in a life threatening scenario, but 'the other one' is basically an alternate side of you that lies dormant until you're in a fight-or-flight scenario and flight isn't an option. It's like your body takes over your mind and consciousness and thinks all by itself. You as a person effectively become silenced until the danger is over. You'll find yourself doing things you never thought you could or would do in real life.
Think of it when a cat goes after a rat - I think we all know what happens if the rat becomes cornered/trapped...

Inosanto DID NOT DESTROY JKD, you got to remember, the way Danny Inosonto teaches JKD may not be "the exact way"JKD was taught to him by Bruce Lee.JKD CAN BE TAUGHT BUT IT CAN'T BE STANDARDIZED but if it were Standardized then it would be a style. Not everyone punches, kicks, throws or locks a person EXACTLY 100% the same way, alot of people are born disabled and will be that way all their life so does that mean they cannot learn "whatever kind of Martial Art" because their disabled. That disabled person has to find what is useful for theirselves and what isn't then discard it.What is taught to a person in JKD is not the gospel truth, the person that is showing the other person a "idea" is just that, it's an idea and at the same time there's over ONE QUADTRILLION OTHER IDEAS that person may want to tryout.JKD is not set in stone (like styles are), the best way, the only way, nothing but this way.Now if a person is learning whatever (technique) and that person has no experience in that department then it would be a good idea to go that direction, that could be their reference point, something to work off from, you may like the way (it is) or find another idea.JEET KUNE DO is 3 word's combined into one, discard the name, it's just a reference point.

In my past i learned the way monks think
Respect all living as well as what they learned.
    Only fix what is broken.
Be like "Thich Nhat Hanh" In you mind and body.
Relax and energy are connected to your movement.
I aim for making a School for martial arts, a place that connect styles freely. Follow the place rules by follow the monk mind when training are important.
The fun thing is there more i learn the more similar i get to what Bruce lee did.
I might able if learn Jeet Kune Do to find the missing parts and might also make it a little faster technic wise, by them that school this way ??
Imagine if he had more time Jeet Kune Do, I might can give some info that can carry new angels or missing parts that got lost.
I am like Science in martial art you practise, you see the improve of your skills. That's how I see it.
My way are improve who you are, by study you body inner strength.
A good teacher know what you body can learn in 10 min. time. Not just redo over and over.
If you do 4 hour / day in a week, i can learn you to use any martial arts effective, even fake style. up to 5/10 before Dan scale.
Use all the body make you faster. Max what you body are able to do, thats the first weeks time.
Learn the similar language my 6 element, and you can grow over 5/10 Degree's way faster then i have seen other yet do.

“Of my art - Gung Fu and Jeet Kune Do - only one of 10,000 can handle it. It is martial art. Complete offensive attack. It is silly to think almost anyone can learn it.” (Bruce Lee Jeet Kune Do: Bruce Lee's Commentaries on the Martial Way. Lee, Little.”

Videos don’t do enough justice towards Jkd only by studying Bruce lees books carefully and practicing and practicing more eventually you’ll find the flow that is jeet kun do. internalizing discipline and adapting to anything is very difficult yet with practice will become easier. Hard work and dedication will always be the core of jkd….

It was hard to teach someone to kick properly and naturally when they were just starting to learn the art. Their body mechanics had to be just right for the correct execution. Then again, this was during a time when martial arts were just starting to become popular. Nowadays, learning can be much faster.
