The Law and Holy Scriptures were given to the nation of Israel/Jews NOT to non humans/angels. How God takes His place in the divine council is by the Prophet Asaph who wrote Psalm 82 and by the Law which was given to the Nation of Israel. What is KEY is that a Prophet of God like Asaph carried and handled the words of the Lord God, Prophets were the VOICE of God that is why it is IMPORTANT that Jesus fulfills these words...... Here is the explanation that points to Jesus, Jesus holds that answer, sure isn't me or Heiser.

Jesus answered the question of the "gods" of Psalm 82 in John 10 long before Heiser was even born.
Heiser beleives the "gods' of Psalm 82 are non human super angels of a divine council.
Okay lets look at Psalm 82 and John 10 where it "gods" are used.
Psalm 82: 1 "God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment:
Psalm 82:6 I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you;
John 10: 34-35 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” ’? 35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken),"
Looking Psalm 82
Word for God in Psalm 82:1 is Elohim with a upper case "E">>>>("God has taken his place") gods is elohim lower case "e" also in Psalm 82:6 lower case. God mentined Once (verse 1) and "gods" mentioned Twice (verses 1 and 6)
Looking at John 10: 34-35
Word for God is Jesus>>>>("Jesus answered them"), Jesus is God and the Son of God second person in the Trinity/Godhead (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). Jesus mentions the word "gods" Twice in verse 34 You are "gods" verse 35 "If he called them "gods"
Another connection there is ONE "I said" in Psalm 82 verse 6 and ONE "I said" in John 10 verse 34. A person has to pair up the "I said" statements that in in both the OT text and NT text.
The "I said" statement is the kicker. The “I said” statement is no different than an “I am” statement. The "I said" and "I am" are declarations of God’s name from the OT, as applied by Jesus to Himself in the NT. The "I said" is only used in Psalm 82 and John 10. Most people are taught Jesus is "quoting" Psalm 82, BUT Jesus is REPEATING what His Father (God) had spoken thru the Prophet Asaph. Aspaph is the Author and Psalmist of Psalm 82. Prophets of the Old Testament like Asaph the "word of the Lord" would come to Prophets like Asaph.
Let's look at an example from scripture, this a prophet after Moses passes away
Deuteronomy 18: 18 "I will raise up for them a prophet like you (Moses) from among their brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him."
Another example
Hosea 1:1 >>>>> "The word of the Lord that came to Hosea," Hosea 1:2 "When the Lord first spoke through Hosea, the Lord said to Hosea,"
With these examples from OT scripture Prophets were the "Voice" of God, this is part of the job description of a Prophet to handle and carry the "words" of the Lord God.
Looking again at Psalm 82: 1 "God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment:" and Psalm 82:6 I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you;"
HOW God has taken His place in the divine council (other translations"congregation of the mighty" or "great assembly") is by the Prophet Asaph who is the Psalmist who handled and carried the words of the Lord God. The divine council, congregation of the mighty" or "great assembly are the "gods" in Psalm 82:1 and Psalm 82:6
Psalm 82:6 I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you;
John 10: 34-35 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” ’? 35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken),"
Again since the "I said" is the kicker, Jesus who is God (Son) goes on telling us who had the "law" and whom the " to whom the word of God came", that would be the "gods" which are Human and would be the Jews of whom Jesus is Addressing in John 10:34-35, so the same LOGIC would be applied to Psalm 82 that Humans are being addressed Psalm 82, NOT non human super angels of a divine council.
Jesus is the word/Word become Flesh>>>>John 1:14 "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Since Jesus is the Word become flesh, He is now carrying and handling the words of HIS Father from the Old Testament in the New Testament that is WHY it says in John 10:35 ((and the Scripture cannot be broken). Jesus has to Fulfill the words of the Old Testamen, which would also include His Birth and His Crucifixion (Isaiah 53).
Jesus fulfills the Law and the Prophets, Jesus says in Matthew 5:17 "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill."
Jesus TOTALLY answers the question of the "gods" of Psalm 82 in John 10, becasue Jesus is repeating what God spoke through the Prophet Asaph. Humans (gods) are being addressed in Psalm 82 and in John 10.
What Heiser has done is Idolatry he got so many chasing after a phony and false divine council made up of a bunch of nonhuman gods (super angels). Heiser has cheated Jesus out of the answer of the "gods" of Psalm 82, because he never pointed a person to Jesus in John 10. Heiser was a blind teacher and a false teacher when it came to Psalm 82.
Final Note: "To die like men" from Psalm 82, are referring to the "gods", probably referring to Jewish Elders who are Rulers, Judges or even kings with in the nation of Isarael are given this authoriy, becasue they have the Law of God and are to uphold the Law of God, they are to represent God and His Law, but are doing a awful job (Psalm 82: 2-5), that is why they are being scolded. Since God has all Authority over them and is Supreme Authority of life and death, these officials with high authoriy over Israel will die like men, because they are men.
Psalm 82:2 "“How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked>>>>>>>>Men Judge (Jewish rulers), not a bunch of super angels of a divine council.

I am 59 years old, a nurse by profession and I found Dr. Heiser two years ago. I have learned MORE from this brother in Christ than from anywhere, anyone else and I feel overwhelming gratitude and kinship towards Mike. He is truly A vessel for the Lord's instruction, and encouragement. I want to enroll in School he teaches at...... What He teaches us is the most important content in all of the world, and learning all He has to teach has become the single most important thing in my life. Thank You Dr. Mike. You have greatly enriched my life. You are loved and prayed for. I just discovered Dr Michael Heiser last week and my view and perspective of the bible when I read it now has not been the same. His legacy lives on, thank you so much Dr H, for being an instrument used by God to bring spiritual wisdom, knowledge and understanding to us all.
This guy should be given a bigger stage a bigger audience
He passed away about a year ago. Yes have to spread his work in these end times more widely!
If I remember correctly, I heard Michael say how VERY shy he was most his life. If u watch his very first videos you can see how shy and quiet he was. And God opened that up and gave Him a Holy confidence. 🙏🏻

I am so grateful that Dr Heiser's teaching is free for us to learn. Why have we NEVER been taught about the Divine Counsel of God? Dr Heiser shows how the Bible makes so much more sense. I tried to understand this about 10 yrs ago. I guess I wasnt ready. I didnt know if I could trust it. It was all so different. Now that our world is in TOTAL chaos in 2021, I have started watching him again. (when Dr Heiser was better for awhile) It is incredible how much more he teaches about God and His creation. I know God is blessing this mighty servant and Micheal is finally well in the presence of his Savior and Lord. Thank you to whoever is posting this.💙
You said it exactly as I feel as well! This has opened my eyes and heart and makes so much sense now
As a teacher, I had to teach Shakespeare and Greek Mythology. The thought occurred to me that there was something to the whole Greek gods and pantheon. I mean, I knew it wasn't thee truth, but I figured those ancient people had a reason for believing in multiple gods. Years later ( 2022/, e stumble upon the Unseen Realm and now these lectures. I've long held that racism and hate are demonic... it's all spiritual and that's why it is present from generation to generation, and even if you have a group of folks who look alike, they will find SOMETHING to dislike or hate about each other. Babies and small children aren't like that. They just want to love each other and play. Maybe that is why Jesus advised us to have a heart like them. But I digress. My point is that we truly do war against principalities and strongholds. Those in the spiritual realm who hate us do a wonderful job of tricking us into destroying ourselves and each other. Heiser does a good job of explaining what's going on in the spiritual backdrop of humanity.
Dr. Heiner is truly a prophet for our time. His GIFT opens our eyes to the realities surrounding us and so many things don’t look the same anymore.
Unseen Realm, Reversing Hermon, Angels, Demons. I've read the first 3 and am reading Demons now. Love your work Dr. Heiser! I am, as you've stated in other lectures of yours I've binged on, reading the Bible again for the first time! You've opened up so much. I am grateful for you and am praying for you for God to bring you through this trial.
We really lost an important brother in Christ Jesus like Dr. Heiser. He's now with the one he dedicated his life to, and I'm sure greatly rewarded in the Lord's kingdom.

Wow and wow! As so many others have said it's bring so much context to the whole of scripture and makes the word of God even more wondrous! I have only one question in all of this but it's a big one I don't know how Dr Heiser could go into so much detail on the stuff that was missed and somehow never explains how the Nephilim in Genesis 6 who sinned so greatly appear again after the flood weren't they all wiped out in the flood?? Did I miss this in this teaching or does he address it somewhere else?? sure would love it if there was an answer to this because everything else is so engaging!
Well he talks about it but doesn’t, remember how he talked about the Nephilim being 2/3 or 1/3 Nephilim, they came through one of the wives of Noah’s sons, from her genetic pool, she was part Nephilim and it manifested in some of her offspring, that’s why they are 2/3 or 1/3, and I guess those offspring married and had offspring together and so they were re-established, I don’t remember which wife, but it can be traced. I’ve seen it traced to the lands they settled and their descendants.

I wish Heiser were still here. 😢 I'd love to know what Jesus meant when he said, "I saw Satan fall from heaven..." I wonder if he ever discussed that in his lectures.
It seems he had to be speaking historically and not present tense of when the 70 disciples were casting out demons. ????
Good for you! I have the same question, and came to the conclusion that this verse is MUCH misinterpreted and (I think) you had it right. Jesus did NOT say that he saw Satan Fall from Heaven. He said he saw satan fall as LIGHTENING! The exact words are "like lightening from heaven". The words don't make sense in a historic context. The power of God working through the disciples against the kingdom of darkness has nothing to do with the other event. Jesus was describing the manner of which Satan's kingdom fell...QUICKLY! In a flash! Like lightening. The word "Heaven" has 3 meanings...1) the abode of God 2) the universe 3) the sky. Like lightening falls from the sky, that's how darkness fell. CONTEXT. Also, there are OTHER ideas about the origin of Satan. Most people--including Heiser, think that Satan "fell". That he was once 'good' but became bad. The OTHER lesser idea is that God made Satan the way he is for God's purposes. There's a verse in Col 1:16 that says everything was made BY God and FOR God. (very important). If God did not create evil, then where did it come from? If it exists outside of God, then it is MORE powerful than God is, and we know that to be impossible? I like Heiser and this series is very interesting and he gets a lot of things right. But whenever people embrace the fall of Satan, than, I think, we get off track a bit and miss some things. I personally hold to the view that Adam (man) is the one who "fell". That if we're gonna spiritual the famous Isaiah passage (14) & Ezekiel (28), it's Adam/man who once had the high position with God in Eden--the mountain of God. It describes God's human creation (verse 12) and the list of gemstones in verse 13 are the same ones on the breastplate of the priest in Leviticus. And believers ARE priests! Verse 15 "blameless from the day of your creation until iniquity was found in you." (sounds like Adam/man). But through Christ...mankind gets it all back...the relationship with God, to rule and reign (as before), the sonship etc. But that's my take on it, anyway.

My impression of this passage is that it refers to the use of tefillom, or phylacteries. Think about Jews praying at the Western Wall in Jerusalem even today, they tie small leather cases to their right hand and hat band with Scripture verses inside. Culturally, John would have referred to falsified prayer in which the beast requires his own mark (which could be Nero's/Caesar's name if you want to play the gematria game) to be written on the paper in the tefillom in lieu of true scripture, thus defiling the prayers being offered in that time.
God is all knowing. I've wondered for a long time. Why did the Lord not bind or destroy satan, when He knew that he was going to tempt man in the garden? Not taking away our freewill, just preventing Eve from ever being tempted? I know there is a reason, because I know God is perfect and everything He does is true and just. I was just curious about this, because I don't know how to respond to this question when it's asked by a secular person.
If you view part 1 of this, he explains that God gave humans free will. He didn't make us robots. In order to be truly free means there is freedom to choose against God. And Satan was created to be that choice. But God knew in advance that would happen and had a plan before the world was ever made (1 Peter 1:20) to redeem His people. Also--this just my opinion-- that God's love is best known through forgiveness.

imo...the fall was the effect of taking into one's heart the knowledge of sexual sin. Adam and Eve wanted to cover their private parts. They felt shame. It brings to mind the first time i was exposed to pornology. I was young. I had never seen pornography and this was supposed to be a date with two other couples. I hung my head in shame and tried very hard to keep my tears from being seen. Adam and Eve had been pure. It must have been traumatic. And there was planted in their hearts a desire they had never known. Whenever a desire becomes a "driving" force, it's probably from lucifer. When the heart is "drawn" its more likely from God. Fidelity is necessary. Otherwise a woman becomes polluted. I remember the early hunt for a way to treat HIV. Men were most affected and blood samples revealed a host of DNA fragments. These are not all retroviruses like HIV, but they are foreign and accumulative. What happens when a culture gives itself over to sexual sin? DNA fragments possibly passed from generation to generation. It took over 400 years for the Canaanites to become irredeemable. Maybe that had something to do with polluted DNA? Marrying and giving in marriage might have more to do with sexual union than it does with holy matrimony. Whatever marrying means, Jesus makes clear that it is definitely something angels in heaven don't do.

After the flood, where did all the women come from if they had to be born, grow into adults for all these cultures to be so populated it so fast?
Noah's sons had wives. They had sons and daughters. People were still living much longer---hundreds of years...there's a biblical record of ages...though the life span has begun to drop at this point in time. Women could start bearing children at the age of 13. In the East, women were married young...probably for optimum child-bearing years and they had large families. So it wouldn't take that long. As in the very beginning, (Adam & Eve), folks had to inter-marry all over again. God didn't prohibit this until He gave the Law in Leviticus (if I'm not mistaken). Who else ya gonna marry? Maybe some of the births were twins? 13 years isn't such a long time. Also, keep in mind...we read chapter to chapter in the Bible, sometimes not realizing how much time has passed between chapters. So, it may sound like a fast "re-population", but not that fast!

@Jack Sinclair In a video interview with Remnant Radio, Dr. Heiser explains that 1st Enoch wasn't written by Enoch, but was simply named after him because Enoch is the main character of the book. That was how people titled books back then. Nobody expected anybody to believe Enoch actually wrote it.

According to some of the Dead Sea Scrolls (including Books of Jasher and Giants), Caanan (Noah's grandson) began trying to recreate them. Not too sure on the specifics, so I'd advise looking into it further and doing research. But it appears that's why Noah cursed Caanan.

The giants were the result of the sons of God lying with women. This can be repeated after the flood. Because the sons of God were not destroyed by the flood. Only their spawn were destroyed with the evil men. The sons of God only have to come back and lie with the women that are produced after the flood, for more giants to be born.

In the Hebrew in Psalm 82 angels/spirit beings isn't mentioned only "the gods" and "the congregation", the second term being what Heiser (and most other scholars) take as "council", and "the sons of the Most High". What a person has to do is figure out who "the gods" and "the congregation" are. Asaph is the author and the one who wrote the Psalm under the inspiration of God almighty Himself. God would communicate through prophets in the OT.
Where a peson like Heiser failed is he could not figure out who the gods/elohim are, he never looked to Jesus. Because Jesus already settled this in scripture.

DNA corruption
While all of this is definitely interesting and something to ponder I do however have to question it. It relies so heavily on the Dead Sea scrolls which no one is even sure who wrote them. For all we know it was a cult that changed things up to fit their cult. After all there was a lot of apocrypha books found. One example is Goliath in the Dead Sea texts they say Goliath was only about 6ft6. If that’s true than this entire premise is bunk and Goliath wasn’t some Huge Giant offspring and wasn’t no taller than some men in my family. It’s reasons like this that I do not trust the Dead Sea scrolls or any of the alexandrian texts. The alexandrian texts were nothing but discarded texts. The ancient Jews when mistakes would happen in the text they would bury them as they could not destroy them because they were still considered holy.

I see the case being made here is of the use of the phrase SONS OF GOD. Somehow it seems to create the impression that it is referring to heavenly beings(Elohim) and not sons of mankind who are obedient to God.
For example, In Deuteronomy 32:8 the Bible is referring to the giving of races at Babel. Dr. Heiser rightly states that the correct interpretation has to be the division was done according to the Sons of God and not according to the children of Israel as some translations render it.
However, Dr Heiser claims that those Sons of God cannot be sons of mankind(Adam) but Elohin beings. I realise that much of his inspiration comes from extra-Biblical books like the book of Enoch.
However, am trying to make sense of this conclusion. So, God divided the families/races according to heavenly beings. This does not make sense. This appears to be ignoring the immediate and obvious interpretation of the verse.
Why can't the sons of mankind be the ones being referred to as the sons of God? Such that what God did is he looked at the population alive at Babel and he picked all the males who were there and used them as the heads of the new races.
I think I understand what you are saying. I cringe a bit at the suggestion that "sons of God" are demons. How can they be demons in the OT and be redeemed believers in the NT. I like a lot of what Heiser is teaching, but some of it goes off course a bit if there's a mis-identification. It seems more consistent across both the OT & NT that sons of God are those who are obedient to God (not 100%, but their HEART is after Him). They strive to please God, worship God, do according to His counsel, they honor God with their lives. Just as His creations did before the Fall. Once we get to heaven, we won't have minds influenced by sin as we do now...but we ARE called "sons", "Children of God", "sons of the Light" (or "day"), "born of God" etc. Because of Christ, we get back what we lost in the Fall. Rule and reign and position etc. When you interpret it this way...then in Genesis, the "gods"/demons etc. did not mate with human women. I just can't buy that! Rather, there was a mixing of spiritual light and dark when heathen human beings mated with believers (sons) of Yahweh. Then, it always goes downhill b/c the believer falls into compromise and eventually into sin when mis-mated intentionally with an un-believer. That ALSO is very consistent with the Old & New Test. SEE: Solomon's wives...OT men taking for themselves wives of the un-believers...(God hated that! And with good reason). In the NT, Paul warns not to be mis-mated with unbelievers. Why? B/c the un-believer always pulls down the godly one and causes the believer to compromise in his faith. The un-believer introduces pagan gods and rituals and lifestyles that the believer succumbs to. This happened all the time in the OT! So, I think it's human beings...sons of God or sons of the devil (what Jesus called the pharisees). Not spiritual angel beings mixing with humans. HOWEVER--there IS a spiritual connection to darkness in the un-believer.
The main reason there is evil and chaos in the world is because humanity doesn't believe what God says, period.
When a person read it in the original Hebrew, and you will see the difference between Yahweh as Elohim above all Elohim and the council itself as a lower classification of elohim.

Even common sense tells us that NO book in scripture is named after a non human being or an angel. The Lord God is in a Covenant relationship with MAN, NOT non human beings or angels. God lifts up Prophets in the OT so Jesus can FULFILL what is written and spoken in the OT Fulfilled by Jesus in the NT. Jesus holds the answer of the "gods" (lower class elohim/gods), they are human in both Psalm 82 and John 10.

What this is saying at who is in the Middle of the Law and the Prophets, that would be the "gods". The "gods" that Jesus is referencing are from Psalm 82.
The "gods" are human and would be the Jews, becasue the Jews were given the Law and had the true Prophets of God. Super angels were NEVER given the Law or had the Prophets of God.

Prophets would handle and carry the word of the Lord in the Old Testament, they were the representative of the words God whated to say>>>> the "Voice" of God. Jesus (Son) is fulfill in the New Testament what God (Father) had spoken thru the prophet. Even Moses is in the likeness of God to Pharoh, Exodus 7:1 "And the LORD said to Moses, “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet."
2. Since Jesus is repeating what the Father had spoken and said thru the prophtet like Asaph. Since Jesus (Son) is addressing "HUMANS" in John 10, the same is that the God (Father) speaking thru the prophet Asaph in Psalm 82 (Asaph the "Voice" of God) would be addressing HUMANS in Psalm 82. Heiser likes to leave out the "I said" declaration of Jesus (Son) in John 10 and the the "I said" by God (Father) speaking thru the Prophet Asaph of Psalm 82. Jesus is God, God is ONE God made up of 3 persons Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The "I said" delararation is no different than an "I am" declaration.
3. The Godhead/Trinity This is how the 3 persons within the Godhead opearate and function. Only the Holy Spirit (God) can convince a person to understand why the Son (God) has to fulfill the words that the Father (God) that were spoken by the prophet like Asaph and other prophets as well in the Old Testament. It is Said that Jesus has fulfilled over 350 prophecies of in the New Testament from the prophets from the Old Testament. Even Isaiah the prophet who wrote Isaiah 53 was the "Voice" of God in the Old Testament, so Jesus can Fulfill what was said in Isaiah 53.....Isaiah 53 is about the Crucifixion of Christ. Jesus has Ownership to both prophets Isaiah and Asaph of what they wrote and how God (Father) spoke thru them. Prophets were given the word of the Lord
4. Jesus is the word/Word become flesh John 1: 14 "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." Jesus fulfills the Law and the Prophets, Jesus says in Matthew 5:17 "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill." No super angels of a divine council were ever given the Law and the Prophets, it would be the Nation of Israel

To address to "die like men" In Psalm 82: 7 is Referring to those bad elders, rulers, leaders or judges within the nation of Israel that have High Authority, they favor the wicked and judge unjustly, they do not follow through with their responsibilities, duties, and do not represent God or the law, these High Officials are just men, they have High Rank so they will die like men. They are human not divine beings. God has always set up rulers within the nation of Israel and even throughout the world.
In Numbers 11: 16 “So the LORD said to Moses: “Gather to Me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; bring them to the tabernacle of meeting, that they may stand there with you.”

God has ALWAYS set up Governements in the world not just with in the Nation of Israel, Romans 13: 1 "Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God."
6. Clearly the "gods/elohim" of Psalm 82 are human judges, some even apply kings. The Old Testament has a book called Judges as well as two other books 1 Kings & 2 Kings. No book in scripture is applied to something nonhuman or angelic. Psalm 82:6 "“I said, ‘You are “gods”; you are all sons of the Most High.’.... The word "sons" used in this passage is an "Adoptive" Term for Israel, Israel was the chosen people of God.
7. Psalm 89 has NOTHING to do with Psalm 82. Hieser likes to mix those chapters together. Psalm 89 is in the heavenly and spirtual realm when Psalm 82 is on the earth and the physical world. The same logic heavenly and spiriitual would apply to 2 Chronicles 18:21 and 1 Kings 22:19-23 where it mentions a scene in heaven and the lying spirit. The heavenly hosts in scripture refers to the sun, moon and stars.
In Summary
The Humans are Jewish rulers in both Psalm 82 and John 10. Psalm 82 Jewish rulers like judges or even kings. John 10 Jewish rulers like pharissees. Psalm 82 would be human, NOT a bunch of super angels, like Heiser promotes. Heiser throws Jesus under the bus. Heiser CANNOT answer the question of the gods/elohim of Psalm 82 becasue Jesus has already answered the question of the gods/elohim in John 10. Jesus has Ownership to the answer, since Jesus is addressing humans in John 10 the same would be humans are being addressed in Psalm 82, not a bunch of super angels of a divine council. Heiser has manipulated so many minds and has triggered the mind to think this "divine council" is non human. Jesus clearly gives us the answer the divine council is human.
The phrase and title given "you are gods" is a legalistic title of Authority because the Jews were given the Law and as well as judge with the law. The Jews were given the Law and 10 commandments to govern them and council them, so it is imposible for this to be nonhuman spirit beings or angels. The Jews also had the True Prophets of God. God also established covenants with Humans, not nonhuman spirit beings or angels.
