    I love this car so much that I went out and bought a 4C. Everything Alex says about this car is so true. It is not comfortable, you feel every pebble in the road and there is really little room for any baggage. But man, it just is so much fun to drive. It's fast, sounds great and does it get attention! It certainly is not a daily driver and if you want to drive and listen to your radio, this is not the car for you. In my case, I take it out once or twice a month for a curvy Sunday drive and come back smiling. It's a fun toy to have!!

    There is nothing to compare with Alfa Romeos,they are unique
    and experience plus Italian style has given them a cachet .You
    either like them or you don't.But any serious driver who really
    likes to and knows how to drive will love this car.

    Excellent review of a terrific car. I have the coupe version and love it. It is very different than Lotus, Porsche, BMW...and that is why it is so cool. It is a drivers car first and foremost...everything else is secondary. Have owned and driven all of the various cars I just mentioned...enjoyed them also but not not as much as the ALFA.

    October 2022: Best 4C review I've seen, and I've watched them all. This video was from several years ago, and since being discontinued in 2020... prices have SKYROCKETED amongst collectors.
    This is undoubtedly, a future classic.
    I just bought a 2020 4C, with 4800 miles (3 years old), and the Akropovic exhaust option......
    ..... 3 days ago ;)

    • @ninefourteener
      @ninefourteener Před rokem

      @@Eap35 Before answering, be aware that prices vary dramatically between models.... and that price variation is "basically" dependent upon 3 things;
      1. Mileage
      2. Options
      3. Condition
      My car was the last year made (2020), has only 4000 miles on it, has the VERY RARE Akropovic exhaust, it's a Spider (convertible), and is in absolute dead-mint condition. So, obviously I spent on the "high end" of their value range.
      $78,000 US Dollars.
      However, outside of the USA, prices also vary dramatically. I recently went to an exotic car dealership in Brussels (Belgium), in which 2 of the 4 models they had, were well over 100,000 Euros.
      Mileage is the most important. Because they are rare exotics, 30,000 miles is considered "a lot", and will dramatically decrease their value. Options also have a huge impact. The Akropovic exhaust is BY FAR the most rare option, and can genuinely increase the value of the car by $7-$9k. Launch edition models don't "appear" much different, but because they are rare, can also increase the value a few thousand. The pearl white (Madreperle) color is also a HIGHLY sought-after color (not to be confused with the standard white).
      Hope this helps. Good luck.

    Alex summed this car up perfectly at the end. This is basically a second car to enjoy as a toy. I used to own a 2006 Lotus Elise and it was simultaneously the best and worst car I've ever owned. It was not my daily driver so I absolutely adored it. If it had been my daily driver I think I would have hated it. I have been looking for years to get another car that would give me the same thrills and I think this Alfa just may be it. I will be buying one next summer.

  • @1guyin10

    This isn't a car you would drive every day. It is a car you take out on sunny weekends for a drive in the mountains. Personally, I would love to take one for a spin even though I probably wouldn't fit very well in it.

  • @vincepalaa
    @vincepalaa Před 9 lety +2

    Thanks for the review Alex. I'm a huge fan of you and your videos.
    The 4C seems much like a throwback, almost a modern MR2. It's very hard to compare this to anything on the market in the US today, as made evident by you spending nearly 6 minutes trying to find it's equivalent. The 4C seems like the perfect second car. Your daily, numb, Camcord can be supplemented with a visceral weekend experience. Whether the US has a demand for that particular (high end) niche car has yet to be seen. I love the idea. Being a single male in his early 30s without kids and disposable income, I love the idea. Will a middle aged, person with a family (the most likely demographic that could afford this car in the US) justify the purchase to their significant other or themselves? I'm not so sure. I will say, I'm certainly happy this car exists and I can only hope it isn't a flash in the pan. Also, if I was living in a state that required a front licence plate I think I would just pay the fine, that front is just too perfect to sully with a plate.

  • @cadsux
    @cadsux Před 9 lety +1

    I'm glad you got your hands on a more exotic car (Wow, this tester already has 24,000 miles on it). I thought the Nissan 370z was harsh, but not anymore. I'll bet the Lotus's are just as bad. Last year, there was talk about Alfa Romeo and Mazda working on a new roadster, but I it's more like Fiat & Mazda instead. It's an enticing car, but If I had the money, I'm not sure if I'd own one, unless I'm like Reggie Jackson or Jay Leno. I grew up in North Beach of San Francisco, so I remember seeing Alfa Romeos everywhere, so I'm pleased Alfa Romeo is back in the U.S.

  • @pete3198
    @pete3198 Před 6 lety

    Just want to give credit to the reviewer here for one of the best reviews I have seen on any car. So many reviews are horribly biased either in favour of the car being reviewed (i.e. it was sent from heaven and can do no wrong) or against the car (i.e. I don't like it personally so I'll just bag out everything about it).
    Alfa Romeo reviews especially are prone to falling far on the edges of one of those two categories - people either ignore the faults and rave about the car just because it's an alfa and they want to love it...or else they bag the living hell out of car and turn the whole video into "lets spend the next 20 minutes cracking jokes about Alfa reliability and quality":
    In this review you were 100% objective, and while you gave some insight on your personal opinion of the car, you spent the vast majority of the review giving factual feedback on things it does well, and things it doesn't do well. That's exactly what a review SHOULD be, so kudos and great work.

    Why are Americans always moaning about cupholders, to small, lack or wrong place?
    Why is it so important to have very large well placed cupholders in a car like this?
    It is not possible to drive without drinking all the time? It's not very likely you gonna drive this car for more than 2-3 hours at the time, so where is the need to drink anyway...

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  Před 8 lety +8

      It really is a cultural thing. Americans are much more likely to commute in vehicles like this, commute longer distances and much more likely to eat in the car. We Americans didn't get this fat by abstaining from burgers on the way to work.

    Hi, AlexOnAutos team. I don't know if you guys can make this happen, but im gonna ask any way. When you guys are showing the interior, could you put the car in a dark garage or film a small portion of the interior shot at night - to show how the interior dials and knobs light up (or don't light up) at night. Please also show reading lights and any lights along the door seals.Also, please show how the exterior lights "behave". This would be greatly appreciated. I love your in-depth reviews, otherwise. It just shows how amazing what Mazda has done. With steel/aluminum construction, all the convenience/modern equipment you miss in this car, new Miata weights less than this car (MT or AT). Sure the HP number is low, but I guess you can add a turbo and some proper modification that still weights lower than this carbon tub.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  Před 9 lety

      Mazda's use of the "front mid engine" term is unusual to say the least. Their definition is simply that the entire engine is behind the front axle. But by that definition( and indeed that is in their definition) then almost every 4-cylinder BMW would also be so described. (And a few Mercedes and Lexus models and a V6 Dodge Challenger) According to the SAE there are only three different engine layouts, front, mid, rear. Because the engine is in front of the front passenger compartment there is no way for that design to be a mid-engine. A mid-engined vehicle requires that there be some substantial portion of the body aft of the engine and the entire passenger compartment in front of it.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  Před 9 lety

      I should also say that the Mazda Miata, because of the front engine RWD design has a perfect 50/50 neutral weight balance which is my preference.

    This is a go-cart. Plain n simple luxury speed-boy go-cart.
    OK. So here is the problem with getting a car that is so specific. It is true you cannot compare the BMW 2m or Porsche to them...but they give more. LOTS more.
    These cars allow for you to stop doing that ONE specific thing this car was designed for and do OTHER things.
    Who in hell can have a car for THE thing? OK. so you can stop enjoying your exhilarating speed and thrill steering..and then maybe drive around on the main roads in town. But it simply is horrible to do so. You hit every driveway curb. You feel every damned pot hole. You can hold ONE bag of groceries. No air. No glove box.
    Being poor at anything other than THE thing. That is not cool.That is the issue.
    This cool for tools. But when it comes to 60K plus in car money...the car has got to give you more than the THING it does.
    This is why formula cars are not found in garages. They do one thing.

      +paul pellico The reason formula cars aren't found in garages is because they're not road legal. It's just a matter of personal preference and wealth if you have both a track toy and a daily driver in the garage vs only one daily driver that can be tracked.

      +duckofprey1 The Infiniti G37 with the top down gets just 1 cubic foot of space, so literally you can put a small umbrella in there and that's it. At least the 4C held one suitcase.

Same weight without the carbon fiber BS, much better daily drive ability No reviewer dares to do that because that is the LAST time they will get an exotic.pricing for this is a joke...let’s see...no steering aids $5000, remove muffler $500, lol. I wonder if someone will buy this and daily drive it, because this car seems like a pain to deal with. I'm a car guy, but not an enthusiast. If I had $71,000 to spend on a car, I would get a loaded CTS V-Sport, or Audi RS5. The 4C does look fun, but I'm a sucker for a nice interior with all of the gimmicky gadgets and modern conveniences. I do want a car that is fun to drive, but for 70k, I want XM radio, backup camera, cooled leather seats etc. However, like you said, that is not the car's mission. It's just not for me.

    Why didn't they just make it automatic, or do something like what Mazda did with there Mx-5 Miata and just make it where you pull the top from behind you rather than having to physically attach it to the car its self. Kinda annoying. And that trunk if you even really want to call it that is ridiculous. but if your buying this thing, its definitely not for practicality...lol.

    I'm noticing that American host love to say how the Alfa has this and that like the Dodge this or Chrysler that emasculating the great brand of Alfa Romeo. The truth is the Dodge and Chrysler get these similarities from Alfa Romeo, not the other way around. Fiat owns Chrysler and similar is not the same or exact which means not the same so the engine is pure Alfa Romeo. Plus it's an exotic car, not a Dodge Dart, so of course the trunk is small. Why would you compare a sedan with a sports car.
