Vegan meat: Why this butchery receives death threats in Germany

  • Do vegan products threaten German food culture? German cuisine is traditionally rather meat-heavy: sausage, schnitzel, roasts are among the classics. But now there are more and more vegan meat alternatives for dishes like these, which are becoming increasingly popular. We visited two vegan German butcher shops to find out why vegan meat substitutes are so polarizing.

      There are tens of millions of vegans in the world so I’m sure you could find an example of someone calling themselves a vegan, threatening someone.
      The truth is though that veganism doesn’t actually have anything to say about dietary choice.
      Veganism is just an ethical position against the violent exploitation of other sentient beings.

      Wurst does not necessarily mean it contains meat, it's just some sort of pulp pressed into a cigar-like shape. Pea sausage (Erbswurst in German) has been around for over 100 years, it's powered pea in sausage shape. You cut a piece off of it dissolve it in water and either have pea soup or pea puree. What needs to be abandoned though are prduct names like "vegane Fleischwurst" ("vegan 'meat' sausage") and "vegan chicken wings". These make no sense because meat/chicken and vegan are of course mutually exclusive.

      There is no evolutionary reason why plants would be able to feel pain since they are not able to run away. Even if you don't believe in science, it's just logical to eat plants directly than feeding tons of them to animals first and then slaughter the animals. All in all there is less suffering if you go vegan.

    • @jamesbyrne3033
      @jamesbyrne3033 Před 10 měsíci

      Plants aren’t sentient.
      If they were though that’d be a great reason to stop breeding hundreds of billions of plant eating farm animals and destroying millions of acres of rainforest each year to make room for them and the crops that feed them.

    • @najmiebinmaliki

      Then eating plants exclusively is better, far less plants are killed, compared to feeding plants to animals then eat the animals (btw plants are not sentient, they don't have a nervous system and brain)

      Cancer cells from other species, even cancer cells from other humans, are harmless to you. Your body easily recognizes them as "foreign" and your immune system immediately kills them. The problem with cancer is if it grows out of your own cells and your body can't distinguish them from your own, healthy cells and thus can't fight it.

    The difference for real butcheries is that they received death threats, and their stores are vandalized by vegan activists. I will pity those businesses the day they will get their storefront destroyed, their products trashed and their person assaulted. For now, it's all words, and everybody gets them when they do something new or unpopular. Even I, a rather private person, have received death threats for posting on social media.

    • @jamesbyrne3033
      @jamesbyrne3033 Před 10 měsíci +6

      How can you tell if a real butcher has been vandalised? They’re already full of blood and mutilated body parts, it’s hard to imagine that anything could be done to them to make them look less appealing.
      Last October a local butcher put up some pretty gory decorations for halloween and I honestly didn’t notice the difference until they started taking them down.

    • @xeroxyde3397

      @@jamesbyrne3033 you are going nowhere with this rhetoric. Especially with me. I grew up on a farm and I butchered and help butchered plenty of animals (chicken, rabbit, pigs, cows and goats). And yes, it’s not pretty and clean like cutting a carrot. But we don’t do it because we like it. This is because eating meat is part of the survival of the human specie.
      If you don’t like it, nobody is forcing to participate in it. Eat your veggies in your corner, and let everybody else alone.

    • @jamesbyrne3033
      @jamesbyrne3033 Před 10 měsíci

      “ This is because eating meat is part of the survival of the human specie. ”
      ……. That’s obviously not true. It’s easy for a human to meet their nutritional needs without eating animals. There is no way that you don’t know that.
      The fact is that the opposite of what you said is true. We are quickly destroying the world that we rely on for survival, just to feed humans greed for animal flesh.
      No one can make you change your habits, but if you expect everyone to pretend that it’s alright for you to violently exploit the bodies of other sentient beings, when you do not need to, you are going to be disappointed.
