    We have very similar bag setups. I bet you’d like the Maltby products from Golf works. A Clubfitter once told me the Tommy Armour line was designed by Maltby

      Man, I reached out to them and they don't do affiliations or sponsorships. I've hit the 7 iron of one of the players irons and it's fantastic. Love them.

      It still blows my mind, and lots of people think I'm full of it when I say it goes further than the regular drivers I've played. Today, in the cold and damp conditions, I was between 240 and 260 off the tee. A "real" driver wouldn't have pulled that off.

    I totally get it. Last season I bought an old TM Aero Burner mini 16 dgr . I have always struggled with my driver. My ss is 97 mph and with a carry about 230 mtr but I have some issues in my hip so i cant really hit up on it and it mostly goes 30 mtr right of target :) The TM Aero mini carrys 215 on average and is in the fw or at least first cut. According to my Garmin stats (and my own) I have saved 5-6strokes.
    In the past I have experimented with 44 inch drivers with poor results. I think a mini driver is much heavier in the bottom sole and its also designed for downward strikes.
    Anyways.....Its works for me and I have just ordered a 12 dgr Aero mini.
    And the journey continues..............:)

    Nothing that is definitive proof for me, but strongly suspect that when a club "feels just right" when you swing it, looks get you to pick it up, but the shaft gives you the "feel". Combine the two, and you can get a club you have confidence in, which can be a genuinely magical experience...

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Oh, I would agree. The feel of the club is more than likely shaft, since almost all the heads put out today are so good.

    You found the driver! I'm working on finding that next club after the driver. I may experiment with a short 3 wood vs 4 wood. CBX are great wedges. Great video!

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  Před 5 měsíci +2

      I agree. The CBX wedges are just great tools. The sole and the design are fantastic.

  • @danielcohen3159
    @danielcohen3159 Před 4 měsíci

    The CBX wedges are legit. I've had a couple of setups where I had blades in the bag for the irons and still played the CBX 52° wedge. And I have a pretty good short game! It's just really stupid easy to use and ball flight is reliably predictable and consistent. I'm trying out Vokeys for the first time now and I really like them so far, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that 52° CBX make its way back into my bag. It's a weapon.

  • @JimmyHamAnp
    @JimmyHamAnp Před 5 měsíci

    I took my Ping G430 stiff graphite shaft driver out of my bag for the Mini 300 you have but added length to the shaft and never looked back. More distance and accuracy! I just treated myself to the new BRNR 13.5 regular graphite shaft and immediately replaced the shaft with a new 44.25-inch regular graphite shaft. I can't wait to start the season!

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Man, the mini is a total weapon. I was so skeptical when I heard about them, but it's my driver by far, and it's not even a close race. Might try the BRNR but it would have to show a marked improvement over an already fantastic club.

    When the CBX wedges came out they were an instant short game improvement for me but when the CBX2 wedges came out I upgraded to a better suited lofts for my game. They will be staying in the bag along with the Squareback 2 putter that has been fine tuned specs wise to my stroke. My Cobra driver from 2009 will be also be staying. After the Driver and before the wedges is up for grabs. 2 different sets will be battling it out. Either the Cobra Baffler XL hybrid Cobra T Rail iron combo set or the Thomas Golf at705 complete hybrid set will find their way into the bag.

    Chad, what you're saying is use whatever clubs you can that produces the best swings for you. Club manufacturer is unimportant, so long as the club works for you. Used clubs, only a few years old, will perform just as good as the new ones, and you'll save a ton of money. The improvement in tech is never that great nor can most of us feel it or see it each year or two. Real leaps in technology improvement takes usually 5 - 10 years for us to see or feel. Cheers.

    The TA 845’s are great clubs. The original 845’s from the early 90’s put a hurting on the iron business especially Ping. Everyone played them. The brand now I think is owned by Golf Galaxy/Dicks Sporting Goods and Maltby Golfworks. They’re really reasonable and you can get fitted for them. Good luck in 2024 and hit em straight.

      I've been working in the sim with them for a month or so, and yesterday played my second round. The front nine was pretty disappointing, but I around 8 or 9, I was able to get my head on straight and played to par the rest of the way. Few birdies, few bogeys. I was trying to find gaps in my bag, but I really didn't have any, and THAT'S the real magic to building a bag.

    What a great review. Just finished regripping 6-W on some old Apex blades with theJumbo’s to try. Love those grips. Thinking about the mini driver myself: Smaller head is easier to square up and hit flush. Are the Tommy Armour irons cast or forged? Could be why they’re weaker, but who cares? They work. Went with the Adams hybrids as mine are about 12 years old. If they’re as good as the old ones, I’ll be tickled pink. Like the new format a lot.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  Před 5 měsíci

      Thanks a lot! The TAs are cast, but the feel is awesome. Companies have gotten really good at making much better cast clubs. And as far as Adams goes, I'm so glad to see them throwing their hat in the ring again. Great stuff.
