    Keep going Chad. We need some exaggeration in moving the low point to get it earlier. Construct a new shot in your mind that has nothing to do with your iron swing. Don't use your iron swing and try to change that. Everyone I meet can move the release and low point enough back to hit good drives but we need to exaggerate, exaggerate and exaggerate...

    Thanks Chad for leading me to watch Marcus Edblad..my results have been amazing! Last week at the tender age of 70 I managed a round of 76 from the regular ( not seniors) tees on my home course. Best round of the season so far…and you are spot on when you talk of embracing the swing changes 100% and practice. ❤
    I'm lucky enough to have a practice net in my backyard and hit into it EVERY DAY! Had to totally change my thinking as it applies to the swing but after having success with it I plan on staying the course. Many thanks from a subscriber in Nova Scotia. 🇨🇦 Keep the great videos coming…your sacrifice is appreciated by us mere mortals…lol😅.

    I've really been struggling with my game the last 2 years... was on the verge of quitting and put the clubs away for 5 months... Went from an 8.6 to 16 hcp... Came back and decided to commit to one swing methodology and picked following Marcus (I had gotten to be my own golf swing test dummy and was trying everything under the sun to no avail)... its not perfect, especially with driver, but I'm having fun playing again which is huge and hitting irons better than I ever have.... finally see some light at the end of the tunnel... anyways, thanks for all the great videos/ reviews... look forward to seeing your progress after 3 weeks and will be working on the same!

    Marcus has helped me a great deal. I feel as if my lead arm acts only as a controller of radius. Control of everything else is with the trail hand. I also use a ten finger grip which I believe really ingrains the fast hand/slow hand Marcus speaks of. If your brain is wired to swing this way it is truly a life changing improvement in your golf game. I have been playing golf for about 40 years and this is the first time I have ever felt like I was really in control of the ball.

    Marcus’s explanation on the release has really help me with my game. I play CL and would struggle with the driver but now I’m able to work my shots consistently with the driver. Easy to go from CL to Marcus style but got fitted for CL and my accuracy is consistent. I would have never heard of this guy apart from your video. I’m sure you have helped a number of people help find what swing works best for them and this was where they were introduced. Keep up the good work. Thanks a bunch. For your irons, it's a different swing. With driver, let your body take the club back, then trail arm down, then out. For irons, the trail arm can go down with the body a bit more. Play around with ball position and timing.

    Thanks for bringing me to Marcus. I am hitting some really good golf shots with this method. I would like to share with you my "feel" perhaps it could help. My feel is a turn away from the ball. Like my back is to the target then I throw the club straight down behind me. Like I am trying to mash the clubhead into the ground behind me. Behind me meaning away from target. Everything else happens automatically. I fell this as the first move. If I need an earlier release I feel that may arms start earlier than my body. It's a very weird feeling. I sometimes feel like you get too focused on the toe up and swing out thing. For me it's turn back, throw it down and the rest happens, for me anyway. Everyone feels things differently but perhaps it could help. Best of luck.

    I’m working on this method too, and am encouraged to by your promising progress!
    In my last game I found much better striking when I incorporated Shawn Clement’s “outta the way”, particularly on the backswing.
    You gotta make sure you have space for the circle (I like to think “hula hoop”) you are trying to make on a path at 45° out to right field.
    Then to encourage a powerful early release I think of “punching down” with my right arm (from the top) and twisting my hand anticlockwise at the same time. (Less twisting with the short irons.)
    You have to commit to the in-to-out path and the release to make this method work. But it seems to be the best so far!
    Thanks for your dedication, I follow you with interest.

    I struggle with a block to the right too. I picked up a gem from Stephen Johnston regarding making release easier. His idea was to take your usual grip with both hands, then without changing your lead hand position at all, slide the trail hand into a baseball grip position. I tried it with some small swings and it seemed to work to avoid leaving it out right. Try it and see if it helps!

    Great video chad & thank you very much.. I’ve been trying this for about 2-3weeks now. Irons are coming along if I remember to punch down on the ball with trail arm and hitch Hike thumb up to release w/trail hand. Experimenting with ball position as well. With irons I’m finding more success playing back of middle 2 or 3 balls (maybe even closer to back foot) with a fairly narrow stance.
    Driver is a different story and has been much easier to adapt for me. The secret like you said is releasing the wrist or “pushing” about 1.5’ behind the ball & swinging outward about 30* or so. Ball is closer to the middle. I’ve been teeing it pretty high 3 1/4” Tee and contact is great. Im going to keep going as I can see the future benefits. Btw distance is already better as well. Thanks again

    I had to laugh when you said you were getting older etc. Wait to you have ABS ( almost bloody seventy)
    Further to your comment about adopting a system in its entirety, rather than do a mix and match, I admit I am guilty of the mix and match approach. After finding conventional golf instruction beyond my physical abilities, I tried the JV left side approach and found it suited my right hip issues well. I did find most of my shots went right of target, so I adjusted my stance to a more open position = aim more left ( looks a lot like the Eureka set up) . The coach I follow for my short game is Steve Johnston ( Eureka swing) and now I am trying to incorporate Marcus' ideas at least for my Driver. I guess I am looking for solutions to parts of my game that are not working. Each golfer needs to find is own way in the end.

    Great job Chad, it’s interesting that when Marcus started developing this 20 years ago he hit hundreds of balls a week, and after 2-3 months he could hit the tight draw 7 out of 10 swings.
    If I were to hit 3 five dollar buckets of balls a week, that’s 60 dollars a month just to practice that I don’t have. But it’s important for people to know that’s the kind of commitment it takes to get really good at what Marcus teaches, there aren’t any short cuts, he put that much into developing it so no one can hit one small bucket of balls a month and complain that it doesn’t work.

    Where is your ball position? The videos I saw of ME mentioned ball positions that seem really far back. I thought I saw a driver vid. that he had at the middle of his stance. If that's the case, yes, it's easier to hit a draw and B..you'd almost have to feel a real early release just to get the ball in the air. lol FWIW, I've found the Moe Norman approach works well at address. (for driver) Place the club head about 6-9" behind the ball....start your swing from that point and try to make that spot your low point

    Over the weekend Marcus' technique really clicked for me. I find the "push" is subtle and if I focused on staying back behind the ball (biggest key), it was like a sling shot forcing me into a nice finish. I commented to Marcus that it was more intricate than I thought. Before i think i was pushing too hard for too long causing me to dip hitting fat shots too often. The takeaway from all this, for me, is to still "let it happen"...dont force it. Definitely saw gains on longer irons. Shorter irons are still about the same. Great job Chad!

    Hi GTD, I’m kinda like you in that I try a lot of different swings, or rather my version of them, mostly non-conventional stuff. However, being a right sided, opened handed one arm golfer, I find that i can’t really follow any of it. I attempted Edbalds swing this past weekend. Hit drives better/longer but never hit a baby draw all day. Trying all these swing theories has probably hurt more than helped through the years as none have been the magic bullet for more than a week or two. The release is pretty good but I don't think that you can release that trail arm fast enough to get a significant amount of greater distance. The main difference between you and Marcus is that he is releasing through and past the ball with his trail arm which is evidenced by how much bend he has in his trail elbow when his hands are six inches from impact. This makes a massive difference in the force of impact. Bruce Lee used to talk about punches and kicks targeted to six inches past the target being ideal rather than just an inch or two.
    If the trail elbow is straight or almost straight at just before impact, a lot of leverage that could be applied through and past the ball is lost. Even 6 inches of extra drive from the trail elbow joint can make a huge difference. In addition Marcus is driving the trail shoulder to and past the strike quite a bit more. These things help drive the trail wrist angle to and through the ball and create the heavy hit that comes from a lot of compression.
    But as I've said before, the angle that your shaft is coming down from is not allowing you to approach the ball in a way that allows more release of the trail elbow, shoulder and wrist through the strike. In essence you are being forced to dump quite a bit of the angles in the elbow and wrist because the shaft is sort of flipping vertically over your neck as you start down and is not following your rotation at the point, so as you approach impact there is no momentum to drive the trail elbow and shoulder past the ball. So no matter how fast you release the trail arm a lot of the energy is not getting to the ball. If you experiment with the position of your trail elbow at the top, perhaps you can find a position that will allow you transfer more energy through the ball with the trail arm which would make a huge difference. Cheers.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  Před rokem

      That makes sense, but the only way I can use the word "release", while simultaneously having my elbow and wrist still bent, is a turning of the wrist, without a straightening of the wrist. I'll keep experimenting.

    • @timothypollock8358
      @timothypollock8358 Před rokem

      @@GolfTestDummy Well I'm simply saying that the trail arm and wrist are ideally straightening while the trail arm is "turning the corner" into impact around the rotating body. So it starts straightening as it starts to turn the corner and doesn't finish straightening until after the ball is struck.
      In order to accomplish this, the shaft has to be pretty close to on plane from the top (or a parallel plane) so that the shaft will remain behind the rotation of the body until the straightening trail arm can release the shaft on plane past the rotating body and right through impact. Some people describe it as being like a piston motion of the trail arm as the club head goes through impact. In the most powerful swings, the trail shoulder is simultaneously driving the trail arm targetward as the "piston" is straightening adding even more power.
      Or there is also Johnny Miller's "smack the wall" with your palm analogy which involves striking an invisible wall at the ball with your palm ahead of your trail shoulder and while retaining some bend in your trail elbow. So STRAIGHTENING ABSOLUTELY YES, it's just the timing of the straightening that's at question and you can see this happening with Marcus is you examine his pre-impact and impact sequence. Hope it helps. Cheers.

I can see how not interlocking keeps the hands a bit farther apart, which could make the club-head move faster when you get the trail hand ahead of the lead. I am hoping the system can fix my driver, because the slice I had made it a useless club. I know it'll take work, but the driver is the reason I'm making this swing change.

      I'm not sure for Marcus, but it's a personal preference for me. It's a borderline split grip.

    That is so true what you are saying about working on your game and actually that's the only way to improve is to find the right swing for you and understand how your body can relate to it and ingrain it. It's funny how people every year buy the new clubs or shafts that they say will get rid of your slice but they forget they still have the same person who has a flawed swing swinging the new club. l still play with my Titleist 690 and still have my bad habits lol and l am not buying new tools unless l get it for free or sign a contract hahaha dreaming is free lol

  • @iamcarshopping2400
    @iamcarshopping2400 Před rokem

    on the driver it seems you are missing a key point from Marcus. the point is palm up for driver. You have to have already hit the low point then hit ball with palm going up. All other standard shots are with palm down to hit down and beyond the ball. Try that swing thought and I think you will actually hit less up on the ball and not into the stratosphere and be able to swing push faster with the right arm getting more ball speed. then your body will automatically hit up on the ball by fulling releasing (pushing right wrist club has already started to release with the arm elbow push) maximizing the club head speed.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  Před rokem

      I thought I mentioned that very thing, the palm up with driver. Maybe it was in one of the other videos in this series.

    • @iamcarshopping2400
      @iamcarshopping2400 Před rokem

      I may have missed it and I apologize if I did but I don't remember seeing it. In any event maybe it should be brought up again because it makes a huge difference in swing speed and ball flight. Think how much the wrist slap moves the club head and how much it accelerates the club whipping is like 10 mph. Note it is a slapping not wrist hinge in a up and down motion. Marcus address this as well much better than I am. You might have brought this up as well I only listened to this and one other of your videos on Marcus. So I guess I should listen to all of them before I comment. i do like your videos that I did listen to.

    I was doing ok, then the block and terrible shots show up, for some reason if you keep constant grip preasure, the right has no chance to take over, a light grip preasure, creates inconsistency and you spry the ball all over, I hit 300 balls for 2 months , I can hit the short irons nice shots, as soon as I get to the long clubs it’s just bad, I can play up to 6 iron which is almost 200 yards.
    I do have my own swing, I went back to, this are fun to mess with, this is what works for Marcus, if you already have your own swing keep it, don’t try a system you see on CZcams you need to have the pga teaching pro with you , if Marcus was closer I sure would take lessons because the swing feels natural.

    • @GolfTestDummy

      I think there needs to be an imbalance in the grip pressure. You mentioned trying light pressure and tighter pressure with both hands. I try to have the trail hand be a bit tighter, since I want to focus on it, rather than my lead hand.

      @@GolfTestDummy Hi, I'm doing the opposite. For leadhand I grip firmly with three fingers, pinky to midfinger, index and thumb pretty loose. Then I just put on the trail hand since my experience is that when you swing down, you will automatically tighten your grip. Gripping to hard with the trail hand also prevents releasing the club. but this is my experience

      @@GolfTestDummy Interesting thoughts on grip pressure which I agree. A few years ago, I was following Tony Luczak who also teaches the use of the trail arm as the motor for the swing. He has students practicing swings with the "trail arm only" to get the feel of using the trail arm and developing it. He refers to the lead arm as a default fulcrum. I think when you keep practicing with the trail arm, you don't notice what kind of pressure your lead arm has because your attention is on the engine of your swing which is the trail arm.
