    I went through the 200-round break-in of my MR920 Combat with 1 failure to go fully into battery on round 2 of the second magazine. Since then it has been 100% reliable with 4 different P-MAGs. The CR920 & CR920X however do not use standard Glock magazine design. This definitely looks like a magazine issue. The 15-round magazines for the CR920X is a brand new magazine. This may be a contributing factor.

    I have an XR920P and got the first batch when it came out in March. After some initial issues (as any new gun off the assembly line) I now have well over 6000 rounds in it during nightly COF's. Absolutely zero problems. Much better than my G45 with Ramjet. All it needed was a green dot. Looking forward to the CR920XP.

    $800 brand new and I had the same problem. I was so excited when I heard about this gun. Went right to my lgs and ordered one. Unfortunately I hated it after one range trip. First off I got slide bite. The beaver tail isn’t as wide as the 43x. I had the same premature slide lock. Three different shooters. Left handed, right handed. One or two hands. Sent it to ss for repair. They sent it back saying they couldn’t duplicate it. Well it still does it and now they have it again. It’s been in their possession for 4 weeks and mine closer to 4 days.

    My home range has banned all steel cased ammo from their range due to the high malfunction rates and the safety implications that come with it. I’d be interested to see how this firearm performs with even the cheapest brass cased ammunition. I don’t believe any test utilizing cheap Turkish or Yugoslavian surplus ammunition can realistically evaluate the performance the average American gun owner can expect from the firearm in question.

    Initial thoughts is a weak slide stop lever or short spring in the lever, that gun shouldn't have left the factory. Bad batch of parts. No excuses for how expensive the gun is.
    Edit: i didn't know it uses proprietary magazines, that could definitely be a factor.
    The ejector angles live rounds to the left, I've never seen that causing an issue with feeding or locking open.

    I just sent my new Shadow Systems CR920X back for Shadow Systems for the 2nd time for the same problems. After firing several rounds, I would get repeated slide locks with the round failing to feed into the barrel by not going up the feed ramp into the barrel. Also the round was also leaning ever so slightly to the left. I too used fresh factory ammo, both FMJ and hollow points using the 2 15 round magazines that came with the gun. Both experienced numerous failure to feed, resulting in slide lock. I fired 325 rounds through the gun, well beyond the 200 rounds break-in period that Shadow Systems recommends. I sent the gun back to Shadow Systems for the first time, who replaced the barrel and the front sight because the sight had no functioning tritium in it. upon getting the gun back from Shadow Systems, I tested it again on the range, and again, experienced numerous failure to feed rounds into the barrel, resulted in slide locks. I disassembled the gun on the range to investigate, and observed the recoil spring had dislodged from the seating notch on the barrel. I repositioned the recoil spring back into the barrel notch, properly centered, reassembled the gun and again shot it. Again I had slide lock after firing a few rounds. I again disassembled the gun and again noticed the recoil spring was off center and was off to the right of the barrel. This happened consistently. I took numerous photos to document these problems and also had several on duty range officers verify the problems, I again sent the gun back to Shadow Systems with a detailed explanation of the problems I experienced and included numerous photos. I requested that this gun be replaced with a new pistol, and am awaiting a reply from Shadow Systems. Hopefully they will replace the gun with a new one soon.

      I can verify everything you've said. For me, for 150 rounds were flawless and I truly LOVED the gun. The ergonomics and control all in a small and light package were awesome for me. It wasn't until I cleaned and oiled the gun and went back to the range that I started seeing issues. The next 200 rounds were a ton of premature slide locks (about 1-8 slide locks per magazine!). I shot 1 handed to be sure it wasn't my thumb hitting the the slide lever and it still happened. SS is sending me a new slide lever/spring assembly. Will see if this fixes the issue. Super bummed because I really want to love this gun but this is a BIG issue.

    So many people here having problems is interesting. I have had mine basically since it came out and haven’t had any major issues. Shoots great and I trust it as my EDC. Also it’s interesting how many people complain about the price point while ignoring the fact that the base model is priced at ~599 including the optic cut and stippled frame. A 43X MOS is just under 500 stock. A good stipple job to match what you get with the shadow systems will run about 300-400.

  • @Excellerator420
    @Excellerator420 Před 28 dny

    The price is too high for the issues I've had. I replaced the shoe with a Ranger Proof Vex. The pmags that came with my DR920 were junk and the followers had issues properly traveling. When I switched to Glock mags the plastic they make the mag release out of is a softer plastic than the glock mags so around 500rds in they had eaten the mag release to the point they would fall out every few shots. Replaced that with a aluminum extended mag release no issues afterwards. My new problem now is the comp. I'm not lazy with cleaning but the design is just made to promote carbon build up. 3500rds in and I'm probably going to have to just shelf it forever they wont sell me a replacement comp for the dr920p and I'm almost past the point where a ball bit and a dremel can keep ensuring rounds clear the comp. The mag release and trigger issues aside I loved it at first it was comfertable and a nail driver even out to 100yds. But only having owned it since Nov. and having weekly issues for what I paid is unacceptable. I shouldn't buy a 1100 dollar pistol and have to do a full polish job, trigger job, mag release mod, and recoil spring adjustment to get it to be as reliable as the cheaper version it copied. I hope they get their shit together because USA needs to mean something again in the manufacturing world.

  • @greybeard277
    @greybeard277 Před měsícem +3

    This is an odd malfunction. My first thought is maybe the slide lock is a little off and sticking too far inside the pistol allowing the bullet to hit it and make it activate, but the bullets sitting in the mag with a lean or tilt to the left is not something I have ever seen before. No clue beyond obtaining a second sample to see if those magazines display the same characteristic. Thanks for the video.

    • @deucedeuce1572
      @deucedeuce1572 Před měsícem

      It's a very common one, usually caused by the shooter hitting it with his hand and pushing it up. Otherwise, the slide stop spring not being installed right has been the main cause otherwise though. The spring holds it down, so that don't happen... but being pushed up by something will still make it engage (otherwise it wouldn't work when pushed up by the magazine follower). With no spring pressure holding it down though, it can pop up from just the recoil of each shot.

      Not my first time shooting a handgun, and I was thorough to verify that my thumb was not contacting the slide stop lever while firing. So, I feel comfortable eliminating that. Appears to be a poor Mag design…. If it’s pointed left at rest it would probably be point further left or move more during firing. Though the spring in the stop could also be to weak to prevent recoil from forcing it up inadvertently…..

    😂 bunch of shadow systems haters on here. You say you’re not hitting the slide lock and I admit it looks like you aren’t contracting it just before the shot, however you might still be contracting it during recoil. You never shot the gun one handed to completely rule out your grip. I challenge you to uphold a short of your shooting one handed and see if you still have the malfunction.
    Also, if it is an issue with the slide lock or magazine contact SS and they will send you a new one out.

    break-ins for guns is bullshit. if it's a quality and precisely made firearm, it should work straight from the dealer. unexcusable. if these idiots know magazines are for shit, they should've stuck with OEM glock magazines. but then again, how could they sell you a plastic gun with plastic magazines for double the price of a stock glock.

    • @Berettaguy
      @Berettaguy Před 29 dny +1

      It’s not a break in thing. There’s an issue they need to fix. They could have replicated shield arms mags. Also all guns have a break in period. If you don’t think the adjust in the first couple hundred rounds, you’d be wrong. Especially the springs.

    This malfunction is not a true gun issue. The side like it happening because you have such a high grip, And during recoil hitting the slide lock. This is a known issue with the CR920. They use a weaker slide lock spring. Which is their own design and different from the Glock. It is a very reproducible issue if you flag your thumbs up and away from the slide lock, you will be able to run it flawless. Yes it is you and your grip that is causing the issue. Yes I own a CR 920 and I can shoot it without any issues. I can hand the same gun to my wife and she reproduces malfunction almost every time. I have it on slow motion video where you can actually see her manipulation of the slide lock causing the issue. yes I truly believe if they would change the spring tension to just a little bit more on the slide lock. It would fix the issue. You could also shoot it one-handed and it would also not malfunction

    • @deucedeuce1572
      @deucedeuce1572 Před měsícem

      I think Glocks (and most other guns) are priced unfairly... so I think SS are ridiculously expensive. It costs $40 to make an OEEM Glock if all costs are counted (shipping, labor, insurance, electricity, machines/tools, chemicals, etc... etc...)... but by the time only 2 or 3 people make money on it, they make 1000% profit or even more between them. It's insane and unfair. It is why gun companies fight so hard to keep gun laws on the books. They want to be able to make the most profit from each and every one they sell. It also stops most people from being able to make their own firearms and selling them for a fair price. (Same with suppressors also).
