    Finished a 4:00-7:00a block this morning. 30 minute drive to the first stop, which was a business in a strip mall. Closed at that time of course, so at the end of the route, needed to make a 30 minute unpaid extra trip back to the warehouse. The warehouse she picked up from was a sub same day warehouse. We have one in Austin, and that's where I get most of my blocks. There, you scan your license at a kiosk, then the system automatically assigns you a cart number, you scan one package to confirm that it's your route. The app then loads all the packages in your itinerary, then you load and go. Those have letter stickers aaa, bbb, ccc or ddd. To sort my packages, I sort by letter, then the last 4 of the TBA number. That makes the packages easy to find, and I can do the route in any order if need be. I have to be able to find my packages quickly, since some of these 4 and 4.5 hour blocks have 40 packages or more.

      @davidnys1418 Před 11 měsíci +5

      @dark12ain Blocks have a different number of packages depending on how far you have to drive, how many Apts vs houses and how closely they are spaced together. I doubt you could get 40 packages done in 1 hour from ssd. They are not like dsp routes. The best I've done is 40 packages in 2.5 hours.

    • @davidnys1418
      @davidnys1418 Před 11 měsíci +4

      @dark12ain They can be. I've gotten straight up country routes where it was 45 minutes to my first stop and then all the stops were pretty spread out. I've also gotten routes that were closer to the station and the houses were all 5 minutes or less apart. The easiest routes are regular logistics, which are leftover dsp routes. Those are usually tightly packed, and I can finish them quickly.

    I've been driving Flex here in SLC UT for almost a year, I had a 3.5 block yesterday and I had 39 stops and 41 packages and it wasn't to far from where I live, and I finished and got back home about 30 minutes before my end of block so that was good. But sometimes I'll have a 3.5 and my first stop is literally 40 miles away, and I generally only have about 25 to 30 stops and packages. But a few of the things I dislike most is delivering to down town, business and to apartments that require a code or one click entrance, these places wouldn't be bad except that Amazon doesn't figure or take in to consideration the time it takes to get in to some of these places. But overall I've enjoyed the experience.

      I called the inadequates at Driver Support (persistently) and finally got them to remove 7 undeliverable packages that were due to their mismanagement of commercial delivery hours and after 3 calls they finally removed their ugly stain from my standing. The undeliverable packages had dropped my standing significantly - from high Fantastic to very low Great. Honestly, in my experience, “Standing” is virtually pointless unless you’re in the very bottom range. In my area (Kansas), routes are scheduled by some inept individual in Atlanta, Georgia who must be absolutely clueless regarding KS geography and they’re too many packages for the allotted time. Supervisors at my warehouse and Driver Support have told me to stop at my scheduled time and return the undelivered package- but, you’re correct, they will ding you for them. 2:27 Here in Florida, well, at the warehouse I go sometimes (Tamarac FL - VFL3) is the same formula, you pick up the assigned car , I usually make only 3 or 3 and a half hours shift, because it's just for extra money and because I'm disabled, and normally I have no more than 25-26 stops, the less I had was 13 😂... but the area to deliver was like 25 - 30 miles away from the warehouse. I fight all the time with the app, but I got this $ 70+ payments for the job. For less than this I prefer not to do it. I use the same method to organize my deliveries, for me it's the best way. I was thinking about making a video of this, it must be interesting for people like me making this with one prosthetic leg 🦿

    • @thebrickhiker
      @thebrickhiker Před 10 měsíci

      I do Amazon Flex in what they call a Super Rural area. No DSP here, and even USPS won't go to many of the houses due to the "roads" being so bad. The pay is tons more than what urban drivers get but the wear and tear on the car is more. I finish my 4 hour and 4.5 hour blocks between 2 and 2.5 hours. The Flex navigation app is horrific - it uses GPS coordinates for homes and if the house is on a long windy driveway [most are] and closer to a parallel road, the app will send you to the parallel road or a road 10+ minutes around the other side of the mountain. Never, ever trust the routing in the Flex app. Even when traveling on interstates, it messes up; it uses very old OSM data and Amazon doesn't fix it, nor do they learn from the routes drivers do drive to get to places. I tend to use Organic Maps and Apple Maps. I keep Google off my phone for privacy reasons. I usually have about 40 packages and anywhere from 20-40 stops. I use the yellow sort codes to keep packages in my car organized - I'm the first driver to the station and the first to leave - I load quickly and unless I am doing a crash route [eg: a route that covers 10+ route codes - they will give the crash routes to drivers who are quick and organized, as crash routes send you all over the place and can take me 3 hours for a 4 hour block]. Crash routes do not have any sort codes on the packages, so I organize by street/area which takes longer. The routes in a super rural area like mine can take you just a few minutes to get to the first stop or 35+ minutes and 55+ minutes to come back [we serve two states - NC and GA - from the same station, and one never knows if one is going out of state].
      Super Rural routes are definitely challenging, but usually lack apartments. And I rarely have cell service, so running the app in Airplane Mode is a requirement or the Flex app will get confused about where you are. When I have a route that I do have cell service, I use the notify of arrival feature to keep the dog attack chances down. I'm usually attacked about 3x a week by a loose aggressive dog. It's the 2nd least favorite part of the job [the least favorite is having someone come at you with a gun because they don't see the blinkers flashing, and multiple delivery signs on my car nor my Amazon vest]. I tend to do it 3-4x a week as my day job is inside working for myself, so when I get cabin fever, I get a max salaried block [always wait for the blocks to get near double their starting rate!], and go spend a couple of hours exploring the county. :)

    You really have to be strategic when I doing a block. Check your drop offs because Amazon mostly messes up. For example, my block was 5:45p-9:45p. Stop #25 but due before 8 and #30 was before 8:15. Why not drop those off first right? Also customer canceled so I had one package to return to warehouse. Never again. Im either dropping it off to customer or returning it the next time I get a block from that warehouse. Also never drive in apartments you can get stuck inside and have to wait for someone to leave. So many other annoying things as well you need to be aware

    If u hand off make sure to get the person u handed the packages to provide there name and signature so if the person who the package belongs to knows who accepted the package always make sure they confirm the name on the package before hand off Bay Area flex drivers not sure if it’s the same everywhere

    Does anyone else’s warehouse have the route order numbered on those yellow stickers? It goes from 1-40 (or however many packages you have) Mine does and it’s so nice for organizing. Also I feel like each hub should just have a map (in the app) that would show where we load up as well as where we drop off returns. Yesterday I got two packages that weren’t even on my route and they told me previously to drop off returns in the same loading area we get packages. So I went to do that and see like 50 vans being loaded up and they were all mad at me for coming through there 😅 then they told me to go to the other side of the building but there were a ton of vans loading up there as well, it was so confusing and I definitely felt SO out of place! I’ve only done 6 blocks but it it’s different procedure almost every time. One shift there was only one route and instead of sending people home, they gave each driver 2-3 packages, so 7 drivers drove to the same location about 25 min away, idk how to feel about flex so far 😅

    There is no rhyme or reason in package numbers by block hours anymore. You definitely drive further doing 4.5 or more block hours. Ive finished 4 hr blocks faster than 3.5 hrs.

    40 for 3hrs ? Never in my life gotten that.. my max 3hr flex packages has always been under 25 packages. 4hrs - 30 packages , 5hrs 35 but longer drive. My wharehouse its hard to organize it only shows AAAA , BBBB , CCCC , DDDD A & B front passenger , C & D backseat i dont waste my time like most of these drivers who spend 30-45 mins organizing. Ive been scheduling for a certain time i know when wharehouse takes thier break and everytime ive been getting no routes go home full pay 160$ 😂😂😂

    Flex was by far my worst side gig experience. The places they expect you to deliver to is insane. They want you to go where USPS, UPS, and FedEX won't. lol I refused to go off roading and having to go back to return the packages just ate at any profit. This job will tear up your car unless you only are lucky enough to get residential batches.

      @@EmirIbrahim-bi1lc it actually went surprisingly well. I did have two issues. I had to deliver to a locker at an apt complex which was nice but you have to do a couple scans and the app wouldn't read the final QR code for whatever reason. I had to call support and they said it was a known glitch and that I was good to move on to the next delivery. I get to the next stop and now the scanner in the app just goes black when you try to scan anything. Called support again, told me how to do manual entries. Thank God it was the last 2 deliveries or I mightve had a bad overall experience lol. Finish route and end of day. I had a shift the following morning and the scanner in the app still went to black and wouldn't scan anything. The warehouse workers tried to help anyway they could but no one could figure it out. So finally I restarted my phone and that fixed it. That was really the only stressful part because I didn't want to hold up the line. How did it go for you?

    I was told if you go over we still continue but if you are going over most likely you are being too slow or you stopped to do something else because you could get it done in time or even early. Only time i used Google maps if the amazon app is taking me to the back area of an apartment complex instead of the main entrance. The app could be wrong sometimes because it makes you make a whole uturn when you could just make a left at the light or go across the intersection.

      McDonald's not flexible with your hours, you get tax deductions that saves you more of your pay than a w2 job, it's a side gig so having a main job and doing it is what it's for. You not doing 40 hours a week your xar will not wear out doing 12 hours a week on avg.

    At, that location you do go inside, bring your rack out to your parking space, and are supposed to return it. Some dashers leave them in the parking lot. 😠
    I just picked up a couple of blocks, both over $100.
    I recommend using Google if you're traveling far or to unknown locations. Flex Navigation often doesn't know about recent construction, accidents, etc. It also tends to tell you to make right turns, then take a u-turn, rather than just turning left...
