The whole Multiverse storyline is pushed for so many projects that seem like they’re forced but the ONE time we want one they decide to scrap it…
If you are interested, DC is doing a Multiversus comic series, which also combines a wide range of Wb. properties into a crossover event
I know its so damn annoying. Every popular IP needs a cinematic multiverse. None of them are built for it, they always add tons of narrative garbage and bloat, and it makes the stakes lower and less interesting to watch.
But the one show, built around it, with concepts that twist every IP into something unique and interesting, performing massively with just a little trailer, doesnt deserve the effort?
Clearly they must like the idea, or recognize it _is_ a good idea by the fact their extending the IP. Either they want to shove Dodge off of the team and have someone else drive the series into a more "profitable" or "general audience" direction. Or they just dont want to hassle with getting so many IPs involved, regardless if they _already own the fucking rights to them._ The only one in question is _potentially_ spongebob after that one scene in his house. But AFAIK Viacom doesnt own the trademark to spongebobs house, assuming spongebob himself makes no actual appearance.

Spiderverse was a new of IP _OF_ Spiderman, designed with reimagined characters specifically for a 3 part overarching multiverse plot. Miles and Gwen already existed, but were completely altered to fit the new story they are telling with them. The whole franchise is a deconstruction of canon, destiny, and modern society.
They dont need to be high stakes, right. I didnt say they did, just that they often are. But shoehorning in Multiverse bullshit where its not needed kills shows and movies. If the story isnt tailored for it, or built from the ground up anticipating it, it is not going to go well. It will either be trash, nonsense, or cringe.
Learning with Pibby was that popular yet Warner Bros Discovery said no. They have the IP so they can just sit around and do nothing with it.

Let’s be honest. A show like this was never going to happen. It started out as an April Fools joke that people loved so much, they wanted to see more. And yeah I mean seeing corrupted mangled versions of cartoon networks most iconic characters sounds amazing, but in reality it might never have worked. (Mostly cuz of copyright laws for all the characters in the series)
Current Warner Bros makes a good decision without making a boneheaded decision later challenge (impossible difficulty)

DC is currently releasing a Multiversus comic series

Even if you hate the show/sub-community, this is dangerous.
It sets proof that, no matter how popular something is, no matter how strong the fan support, no matter how passionate you are and sink lots of cash into promos, your project is always at risk of cancellation, or never getting off the ground.
I sincerely hope LWP can live on as a webcomic or something. At least give Greenly the IP rights back: I personally blame Zaslav for this.

It sucks that this show got canceled. This was definitely going to be a great show, so sad it never got to see the light of day.

I just had an idea. If they aren't going to do anything with the show, then why not add Pibby to Multiversus? They wouldn't have to deal with the crazy ip legal issues, and the millions of fans would get some kind of Pibby content.

Well… there is one way… we raise the cash itself, and have our CZcams community’s team of animators help make this possible. I mean if Warnerbros won’t deliver this, then we’ll have to do something about it ourselves. Course the characters would have to be original instead of having adventure time or jetson characters but it could work
This could go 2 ways
- WBD sells the trademark (somehow), and we do get more Pibby.
- AS purges the Pibby vids, and copyright strikes anything Pibby-related.
I think the 2nd option sounds accurate.
I hope that one day the creator is able to make an indie animation out of it.

Honestly, I wonder if perhaps Pibby could be revived by removing the crossover aspect? I was really intrigued by it by the premise of an innocent kid character learning the world is bigger and darker than she realized and turning into a warrior, which was a fantastic premise on its own. If the crossover aspect was removed and they just kept focus on Pibby and her friends, it really could work.
Maybe someday.
I have a feeling it might come back in that form. Even without the crossover stuff implemented, there's always a way to reshape itself! Indie Animation's thriving a lot!

I would honestly like that, especially if it combined allegories/lessons about how creators can start out and are surrounded by corruption along with how corporations own way too many IPs that they don't know what to do with them all, and so, said IPs end up rotting.

They were half-baked attempts at mods and were EVERYWHERE, a lot of people would probably avoid the show entirely because they relate it to that slop.

Consider this: Adult Swim airs late at night, a time when hardly anyone is watching TV. That's why most of their shows are low-budget (with a few exceptions that turned out to be very successful like Rick and Morty), because otherwise they wouldn't make a profit. Now imagine a show that airs at a time when no one is watching TV, with a huge budget not only for its animation quality but also for the IPs they need to include.
The love for art is great and all, but if it doesn't make money, there won't be more art to produce. That's why they had to let it go.

That is such a shame cause that nightmare fuel zombie apocalypse using iconic cartoon characters is such a great idea for a horror cartoon. It blows my mind that Learning with Pibby was obviously an incredibly popular short that never seen the light of day but Velma got a season two and possibly even a season three. And this is way talented ideas are rare now and days. 😑

Why don't they make fake parody IPs to use instead of the big ones? Like, the main trio are already parodies of existing IPs, why not just make more?
Two reasons.
1. The reason Pibby stood out so hard was the fact it used _real_ IPs. Not copycats, not substitutes. Your not being hunted by Fionna and Cake, your being hunted by the real deal. Your not being chased by Chi Chi, your being chased by actual Gumball. The actual Teen Titans, not the Adolescent Avengers. That kind of "Oh they are actually travelling between real, established shows, which all have been corrupted" is the strong sell Pibby had that made it different. Otherwise FoP already did this bit very successfully in Channel Chasers. A great special, probably not that great of an idea to spin into a whole show.
It makes sense the main characters are fake IPs otherwise it turns into fanfiction. Their originality supplements the realness of whats happening around them. They dont belong, and they are being hunted by much bigger fish.
2. Established IPs have rules and existing universes. That means you know what to expect. Its alot scarier to have Finn and Jake hunting you down knowing what they are capable of, and seeing their adventures. It makes you emotionally invested in both Pibby, and all the corrupted IPs looking for her. They arent mindless monsters, they used to be your favorites. You lose that when its Notzilla chasing you. The show doesnt need time to establish who the enemies are, only what they are doing. You know the corruption clearly isnt good, and its creating monsters out of people you know _were_ good. Not because Pibby spent all of season 1 setting it up, but because your childhood has been setting it up.
