Now when Abiy created a united party not based on ethnicity but shared values, a centrist-liberal unity party, they refused to join, unlike the other ethnic-based parties, why? Because it would undermine their power, so they plotted and then struck a military base, launched missiles into Eritrea and civilian cities, Abiy had to send the army to retrieve them as they were actively attempting to take over the federal government, as for the first time in 30 years they did not win 100% of the seats and wanted to continue their rule. The only CONFIRMED massacre took place the beginning of November, in the town of Mai-Kadra.
    Google it please and spread awareness, as there is much conflicting information about this massacre. While both sides agree 600-700 civilians (in no way involved in the conflict) were murdered, the Ethiopian refugees, through interviews, report that the killings were done by abiys government and Amhara militia, carried out agains Tigrayans.
    While amnesty international and the Ethiopian human rights commission report have found in their investigation that a TPLF youth group named “Samir” along with local Tigray law enforcement, carried out this massacre against Amharas. The TPLF soldiers were beaten by federal forces nearby a local town, and subsequently committed this atrocity.
    Why are we trusting refugees who fled during the conflict, as opposed to thorough investigation of the event? The investigation was done by Daniel Bekele, former head of African human rights commission? I pray Abiy opens up communications, as the truth must be learned about the atrocities committed in maikadra. So that our community may mourn.

    It is not ethnic cleansing, lord have mercy on these poor souls affected by this unnecessary war. I few important points. Ethiopia under TPLF was an authoritarian oligarchy that introduced ETHNIC FEDERALISM, yes that's right. TPLF the organization that attempted a military coup against the federal government divided the nation into provinces connected to ethnic groups, why? Tigray has a small population, the party members wanted to secure power by dividing Ethiopia to allow for greater control over a divided people. During their reign, they committed multiple accounts of ethnic-based killings, in the Somali-Ogaden region, Amhara region and Oromo region. Students, politicians and innocent people over the course of 30 years have been throw into prison, killed or sterilized. Unfortunately this group, TPLF has decided now with their power diminished to strike at Ethiopia in the hopes of overthrowing the government and reestablishing their party as the ruling party. This failed back in November when they started war attacking a government military base, after months of the PM asking TPLF to hold talks and cooperate with the new Prosperity party they refused to join. What is this prosperity party? Well, it is the one party in the current government not based on ethnicity, people of all groups are allowed, this was introduced by Abiy, the current PM. TPLF would not be able to have 100% of the seats as they have had for the past 30 years because they would be unable to centralize their interests and corruption when working with members of other groups. So instead they chose war. I am disheartened by this, I had hoped TPLF would not go this far, though they claim to care about the people of Tigray, they are blocking off aid, looting trucks and causing disarray, though the capital city of the province has been taken, they refuse to back down, continuing this war and senseless death and killings as they the key member's hideout in the mountains, forests watching their people die. Years of propaganda, fear and misinformation has plagued Ethiopia leading to radicalism and tension, though it is key that we understand this isn't the Government coming in a killing people because they want to commit genocide or suppress an ethnic group, this is directly related to the old government TPLF that attempted to seize power in a coup fashion similar to Myanmar, they failed and have been pushed back. TPLF has launched missiles at civilian centres, killed their own people and more. This is no joke. They need to be stopped. I wish it didn't have to mean they would hide out and throw their people into war.

      What specifically?

    • @QuadDamage3
      @QuadDamage3 Před 3 lety +17

      @@DJ-sn2wn My feeling is that Vice interviewed *very hungry* people, but not necessarily people who've experienced "Ethnic Massacre" as title tries to say. Generally, people who experience genocide cry, appear in shock, name people they lost, give long, detailed accounts about all the unjust they witnessed, things they've lost, the exact moment a mortar shell tore a hole in the roof, have political angle to their story - naming/cursing the president and party and so on, basically point finger at doing to . Have a story to tell.
      Not just go "yeah, they were totally shelling us" while other guy goes on about axes and knives and third just says they lost two members out of group of eight, like a dry statistic. To what? Leopard attack? The story with girl's accident with fire was real, and you can sense how they wanted to tell it. Everything else didn't feel so sincere. Might be as well separatists looting their own before escaping approaching military or whatever. That's when people use axes and knives. And you're afraid to call them out on camera, because it happened in your home where they know you and where you might have to return one day.
      I'm sure any military action comes with some sort of violence, and good ol' genocide is not a rare fruit in this part of the world, but totally not sure this exact video is the case. More likely they were escaping politically-motivated arrests/persecution or something along the lines.
      Of course, I wasn't there, but it feels like those people are more hungry than traumatized by anything as severe as ethnic cleansing. We don't know the truth, but I don't feel very convinced in the picture Vice tried to paint, either. Thus - "wobbly".

      @@QuadDamage3 Those are all good observations. I usually try to be careful with Vice but I thought this video wasn't bad compared to others. I guess I've just learned to stop taking the titles so literally since youtube is full of clickbait, not that anyone should have to do that.

      @mazengiyash Před 3 lety +7

      @@QuadDamage3 You're a very astute observe. The moment I saw the interview with the young people claiming to have witnessed the massacre,I knew they were members the perpetrators the massacre themselves. On the 9th of November a group of youth known as Santi supported by the TPLF and local militia went from house to house asking for people's I.Ds and killing those that were not from the region. Over 1100 people hacked, clubbed, and strangled in 24 hours. When the army approached, this youth changed their colours and became refugees in Sudan. Now they are misinforming the world that they were victims of their own crime.

      False. The government of Ethiopia conducted a law and order operation after the so called “Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF)” the bitter and ruthless former ruling party ruthlessly and viciously attacked on November 4 the Ethiopian National Defense Force’s Northern Command where the TPLF massacred soldiers of non Tigrayan origin. www.google.com/amp/s/mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUKKBN28R1I8
