  • Civil war has displaced many in Ethiopia's Tigray region and there is no end in sight to their misery. VOA's Heather Murdock travels to the largely cut-off conflict zone, as well as refugee camps in neighboring Sudan, to bring the story of a complex political situation and the growing humanitarian disaster.
Voice of America was among the first on the scene when this conflict broke out in late 2020. Now, VOA returns with “Terror in Tigray: The Ethiopian Refugee Crisis,” an innovative, comprehensive overview of the situation that is being simultaneously released in English as well as the Ethiopian languages of Amharic, Afaan Oromoo, and Tigrigna.

It is sad and astounding that the whole world is literally ignoring the genocide in Tigray. It reminds me how the world only recognized what happened in Rwanda as a genocide, after close to one million people were slaughtered.

Thank you for highlighting the suffering of Tigrayan people. Its devastating to see our people suffering regardless of ethnicity. However, the VOA team should consider making more documentaries to shed light on the suffering and displacement of the Amhara and Afar people because of this war. No matter who started it, all 3 groups: Tigrayans, Amharas and Afar people are dying and being displaced. This is a fact. We should not support Abiy Ahmed or the TPLF.
The young man Haftom is brilliant and compassionate. May God guide him and protect all Tigrayans. He claimed that Amharas think of themselves as superior to Tigrayans, this is incorrect! If anything, it's the TPLF who proclaimed that Tigrayans are "werk hizibi" "Gold People". And they indoctrinated many tigrayans to believe they are superior leaders and Amharas are the enemy in their manifesto (google it please). They divided us so they can take full control while Tegaru and Amhara fought. The Tplf elite has defamed and impoverished Amharas for decades, as well as Tigrayns who did not support them. The TPLF is like a mafia group they will kill Tigrayans who don't support them. I am happy to know some Tigrayans who don't, and I am sure Tigrayans will come to this realization soon.
Mikael and his wife have endured very devastating situations and I hope God protects them and their children, but one thing that needs to be corrected is, no one in Amhara region will kill Tigrayans because of their ethnicity. Not long ago hundreds of displaced Tigrayans were sent into the Amhara region and were safely kept in the camps. Why? If these people are enemies why did they let them stay or live? Everything is not black and white. We are not enemies. So what he is saying is contradictory.
Many Tigrayans live and work in the Amhara region. If anything, Amharas in Tigray have suffered for decades under the TPLF and were mistreated because of their ethnicity. The Amhara region itself was ruled by non-Amharas thanks to TPLF for a long period of time. Tigrayan men were appointed as regional presidents and did their best to destroy Amharas and Amhara history. Many Amhara students studied in Tigray (the best university built in Tigray by Tplf, so the smartest Ethiopians went there to study ) these Amhara students went missing or were found dead. These stories are well-known and need to be highlighted by VOA.
VOA thank you and please do more research to create more documentaries that present all sides!

Tplf is evil and need to be defeated. But the people of Tigray should not suffer. No civilian deserves this. I pray to God that tplf get defeated while peace is given to the Tigray people.
