Another amazing video, Redbeard. I love the Florida trail. It was a great trail to hike when I lived down there. Thanks for sharing.
People need not worry about snakes and stuff when they're on the trail; you're not their food. Remember people: animals want nothing to do with you when you're out there. No need to be worried.

Awesome looking trail. I was hoping you'd run into one of those giant pythons. Maybe on another day!

Nice trail man! Most people wouldn't slog through that for a hike but i admire your resolve. I know a few who've attempted that same trail but gave up after days of not being able to handle wet feet. If the hikers out there can't handle this, they are gonna have a rude awakening for something like the AT. Don't get me wrong, you wont experience this much water on the feet on the AT but its not far off when you go through 3 to 5 to sometime a week of straight rain. My hats of to you brother for showing a good bit of what the Florida trail can be like! Hike on RedBeard!

Great section of the FT. It's incredible to think of all the landscapes across the US- From swamp to dense forests to rocky mountains...we've got it all!

  • @christianrodriguez8987

Hey man, glad to see you made it on the trail. You were a day behind us and camped in the same spot we did. (I left the big peace sign for you guys in the fire pit) We actually met for a second on the first day of the kick off ( short dude, long hair) We ended up walking all the way to i-75 and the trail only got more wet as we got closer to the end. It was super challenging but definitely worth it in the end. Love your videos and am super happy you were able to document at least a section of the trail! We didn't take any cameras so its awesome to watch this video. You have an awesome channel. Keep up the good work and thanks for all the content.

It is a great place to hike and watch the stars at night. Every time there is a meteor shower if it is not raining I camp there. I think other than some sections of the everglades waterway this is the most remote place in Florida. The Brooks Cascadia seem to work very well on these wet conditions. I have taken mine lots of times in hikes like this one and they have hold very well, the material dry fast and is quite resistant other than worn soles the shoes are the best I have use for swamps.

Awesome !! That's my back yard I did the 30 mile segment through BC when I did it the first 17 miles were bone dry ... We hiked up to 13 mile camp which is really 17 miles then did the last 13 the following day I would say after 13 miles camp when u hit the prairies it becomes tough with the mud .

I agree that once you're feet are wet it actually feels better to keep them in the water.
I just did a 20-mile section of the ocean-to-lake portion of the FT and it was just as wet. Sorry I couldn't have joined you for this one.

Just hiked the Citrus Trail near Inverness, FL. It's a dry trail with some slight elevation change, so no water slogging. 34 miles of loop trail off of the Florida Trail. I highly recommend it to you since you are in Florida now. It does require a permit which is free.

Welcome to Florida, the Australia of the US, lol. I've hiked many miles on the FT, lots of beautiful nature here you won't find on any other trails. The terrain is flat and you don't get the cool views of the AT or PCT but the amount of wildlife you'll see is staggering. There's tons of natural springs once you get further north as well. I'm leaving for a 4 trip up in the western corridor in a few days. Happy Hikes!!!!

After doing a couple hundred miles of these trails, my best advice is to wear minimalist trail shoes like those offered by merrel and New Balance. A pair of MT10's have lasted me through 4 seasons and kept me light on my feet. Ask anyone who hikes with me, they are amazed at how much faster and easier I move through the water. And the best solution for wet socks is to go sockless! Many of these types of shoes are designed to be worn with no socks, just be sure to condition your feet to them before setting out on a long hike.

Living down here in S. Florida that doesn't look fun to me Will. When we get heavy rains I have to walk through something similar to get to my mail box a 1/4 mile away. Watch out for the red ants that sometimes float by in clumps and cling to anything dry that passes by. Great video though.

If you liked this, there is an old tram trail off Janes Scenic Drive that leads to a camp spot. Also, you can hike areas like this on the access point for Big Cypress on I75. A smaller trail, Gatorhook will get you wet as well. :)
