    Interesting tent. It'd be a no go for the overland track these days. They insist on 2 layer tents and check before you go. Hope you enjoyed Tassie

    Just got back from the overland track. You don't need the filter. Obviously the rain water tanks could be variable, but the creeks are pristine.

    After hiking with Benny for so long, I always have my ear plugs... had it out our FT hike too! Still heard everyone though! LOL...
    +1 to a scoop cup! If you ever need it once, you will never go without it again!
    Love my Anker battery packs too! Highly recommend them!
    Another +1 to the GooseFeet Gear down socks, even over thicker "sleeping socks"
    I have some of the ExO's too, but prefer UA instead.
    Haha, that pillow! I liked the look of that one better than the rest of them!
    Love my Gatorade bottles too... I go for the 20 oz bottles though!
    +1 for the Sawyer Mini. My favorite filter, hands down. I'll be using mine on the JMT later this year too!
    Was interesting seeing that tent on our FT hike. Love watching the Zpacks tent line up evolve. I gotta say too, I much prefer an actual tent floor as opposed to the mesh tent floors. Like the taller entry way on that too compared to my Hexamid (tarp).
    Bummer you can't carry your drone... would have been some awesome shots...
    Anyway, have fun man!

      Check out the Zpacks Hexamid tent's. They use mesh floors, and then you layer another floor (cuben, tyvek, polycro, etc...) inside it. The Plex line of tents use a cuben floor.

    I've had solid experiences with treated down. Untreated can't handle any wet, but treated down (I use Mountain Hardware) will keep it's loft and insulate until it's almost waterlogged, which mine never gets because I put on a rain shell long before that happens.

      @RedBeard0924  Před 6 lety

      Are they aggressive? I will definitely keep my eyes on the trail like i did on the Pacific Crest Trail with all the rattlesnakes. Are snakes essentially the only things to watch out for in Tasmania? I imagine spiders too?

    • @jimjeavons5854
      @jimjeavons5854 Před 6 lety

      They can be but usually will move out of your way. Early morning before they get warmed up that may not happen and watch stepping over logs, nearly got bit by a highland copperhead in the alpine region whilst doing that. Spiders aren't a problem except for the fact you may walk into their web if you silk blaze and I hate the feel of them crawling on my face. Here is the accepted treatment for Aussie snakes. stjohn.org.au/assets/uploads/fact%20sheets/english/FS_snakebite.pdf

    Hey Will, great video as usual. The prototype tent looks a lot like the Altaplex, which I love. And it looks like Joe solved the issue of having to use a trekking pole extension to pitch it. However it turns out, I'm sure it will be a typical Zpacks hit. Water scoop - the cheaper water bottles with the thinner plastic will collapse flat when not in use for space savings. Or you could use a freezer type plastic baggie that will get you into any type of water scooping predicament. Curious, with zpacks pack ability to resist water, why you just don't use a pack liner instead of all the individual bags? Peace of mind? Organization? Personal preference? Always willing to learn something new here. Have a great trip.

      @RedBeard0924  Před 6 lety

Have you had any issues with the O-ring falling out of your Sawyer squeeze filter? My wife and I are currently using a Katadyn Hiker Pro pump filter and are wanting to use a more ultralight option but I noticed that piece falling out was an issue with my sisters Sawyer Squeeze (not the mini).

    Will...with the stoves you have used I am surprised that the lightest of them all---and the one that I have been using for the last year---has never made an appearance in your pack or videos! The stove is the typical propane/butane type that uses any traditional canister but the stove itself weighs only 25 grams!!! ... Thats .9 of an ounce. And believe it or not, it works fantastically. After a year of use I have yet to have a single issue with it. The beauty of it all is that you can pick them up for about 10.00 from China (then wait 2-4 weeks for it to arrive) or , at this moment, you can pick one up on Amazon for 14.99 with free delivery if youre a prime member. The only downside is that they are somewhat small so you do need to make sure your pot sits squarely on the legs but other than that they just rock!!! Try one out sometime.

    • @backpacker3421
      @backpacker3421 Před 6 lety

      Yeah, just be careful with it. Don't over tighten it or drop it when it's attached to the canister, or bang in against anything. That single flange puts uneven stress on the canister valve. Poor design from a safety standpoint, but shouldn't be an issue as long as you treat it delicately.

    Hey Will, just curious as to why you always claim to have an "Ultra Light" load out when that is considered a base weight under 10 pounds. You claimed the same thing on the AT and PCT gear lists when your PCT base was 12.9 pounds. There is no official rules obviously but if your going to make instructional videos it is misleading to tell people that 12.9 pounds is "Ultra Light." I understand the appeal of throwing the "Ultra" in the title to gain more views but it's pretty annoying since I've never seen a 10 pound base from you. I do enjoy your content and have been following you since the AT. Just something I noticed.

      @ sometimes What would he call it then at that weight (what title)? I'm not a super lightweight guy, my base weight is about 18lb,.. I don't know what my official title wound be, I always say I'm a lightweight backpacker,.and compared to some of my friends I am. Perhaps I am wrong to say. Also, his video says "ultralight gear", he has some of the lightest as far as the big 3, so he for sure has ultralight gear? Really asking honestly, I'm not part of the super light, so I don't know the official naming, not looking to offend anyone just get a better understand. Thanks

      Hey, thanks for the reply. Technically no official standards exist it's just a way to classify a certain load out. The term light weight commonly refers to a base weight from 10-20 pounds. The term ultra light refers to base weights of 10 pounds and under. You are right to say you're a lightweight backpacker because your base weight falls withing those weights. I agree that he has lots of "ultra light" items but as a whole his base falls outside the marker. The way he titles the video saying "ultra light gear setup" I think he is trying to say his set up as a whole is ultra light. It really is not a big deal it's just kind of annoying that Will uses the "ultra light" term to draw backpackers to his videos when in reality his set up falls outside the ultra light weight markers. Thanks for the question!
