Season 1 Episode 3 "Occam's Razor"
A college student named Brandon (Kevin Zegers) collapses after having sex with his fiancée. His symptoms seem too numerous to be explained by just one disease. Foreman and House each suggest different diagnoses and argue that his own respective theory better conforms to Occam's Razor. But then Brandon's white blood cell count drops, proving both doctors wrong. At the clinic pharmacy, House theorizes that the pharmacist accidentally gave Brandon colchicine instead of cough medicine, which explains all of his symptoms aside from his cough. House gives Brandon the cure, and he immediately begins to recover, though nobody believes the pharmacist made a mistake. However, when Brandon comments that his old cough medicine did not have letters on it like his current pills, House discovers colchicine pills that look similar to cough medicine, revealing the source and confirming House's diagnosis.

@@crisdlcruz145 nah, back when the show came out the RIAA was a force for trying to fine and jail music downloaders. Managed to do it to a few people too.

I'd work all day if it meant nothing got done
5:55 Wilson has been casually prescribing House Vicodin since season one and I love that detail because it actually becomes an issue later.
Well you have to take into account that most of the time House would prescribe Vicodin for himself in the name of Wilson.
@@SOSULLI true, but it's cool that it was set up from early on. So many shows just randomly create bullshit storylines out of thin air
@@SOSULLI But he can't do that, couldn't he? It's always Wilson that personally prescribes the pills. House got in trouble for doing it himself in Wilson's name once (the Tritter arc) , insinuating that he doesn't do that.
@@ass2278 Late, but, Wilson says during the vegetative-state-boat-maker episode that "You don't need me, you need a pen!" Implying that house DOES write scripts in Wilsons name, but Wilson is fine with it--tritter wasn't.

I love seeing House do actual research. His random eureka moments are awesome too, but the research shows more commitment to his job than just passing it off as a hobby.

They can just turn off ads
You don't have to run mid role ads if you don't want to you just can't do it unless your video is over 10mins they made that rule to stop people from putting 3 ads on a 5 minute video it's not a bad rule it's a good rule. One of the few instances where an epiphany doesn't solve everything instantly, but it's enjoyable as well to see House doing work and research to reinforce his new theory.
Wilson is so young here!
Matthias Joseph Thomas van Trigt Yes, about early thirties I presume.
He was 35/36 when this was shot and definitely 36 when it aired.
I don't know about you, but I feel that Robert Sean Leonard has not received the credit that he so rightfully deserves, since House. He's a phenomenal actor and I personally believe that he's been cheated on multiple times by an industry that no longer values hard work nor true comedic talent. As a long-time fan of his work, I'm proud of how far he's come from his Dead Poets Society/ Age of Innocence/ Much Ado About Nothing, days, yet am and still remain to be quite outraged by the matter.
He'd make a wonderful leading man in a crime anthology series. He's incredibly intelligent and well-suited for any part, in my opinion. Not only that, but he is also very charismatic and possesses the rare ability to entertain the viewer in any given situation. I don't know, but there's just something so special and authentic about his work ethic and performance, as though he is bringing us out of the chaos, beneath the rubble, into the light, over and over again, and yet we're left wanting more. Now that I'm growing older, I appreciate his work more than ever before. He IS an artist.
I think he would be perfect for a clever action movie villian who makes you question if the hero is doing the right thing.
You're wrong
Ahmet Kurum Yeah! That'd be amazing! Maybe in a David Fincher film?
Ricardo Montanía Well, I guess everyone's entitled to their own opinion. If you're not very fond of his work on screen, I suggest that you take a look at his more theatrically inclined endeavors, such as the Manhattan Theatre Club's original production of "Prodigal Son."
Don't forget Swing Kids. GREAT movie!
I’m constantly amazed at the production differences between seasons 1 and 2-8. The bad lighting, the sweaty actors and actresses, the poor sound reception.
ya know, I've often wondered who on earth came up with the idea to dress House in layers??? God, Hugh must've been miserably hot with the t-shirt, button down shirt AND sport jacket on all the time...sets are always uncomfortably hot with all the lights etc ...makes me sweat just thinkin' about it
I think I vaguely remember them swapping from a real hospital to a set for season 2+
@@arandombard1197 yeah but still...I'm surprised that they didn't have heat related problems tbh
@@arandombard1197 liar
That's because when a first season is made, it often doesn't have a network to air on yet. It is created, then shopped around to find someone that wants it. If a show is a hit, then the airing network will throw more money at it since they know it's a sure thing. This happens less these days with Netflix, Amazon, etc. around, but I bet it still happens with the original 4 OTA networks.
That's the thing I like about earlier seasons. They were more of a detective stories, rather than soap operas. And House wasn't just a magician who knows everything he needs to know, but gets it at the last possible moment all the time, while figuring out ways to please Cuddy's mother. He's, no doubt, a genius, but here you can see that he also does research, he thinks, he actually works on case. The show takes its time, humor is subtle and medical case takes over romance or relationships. It's soo good.
The earlier seasons truly were the best.
I also liked better when the rest of the team had specialties that House sometimes relied on
"it's a game, but I'll win becouse I got a headstart, and I can always outrun you at anytime"
Patient: my throat hurts
Cuddy: He has a sore throat
House: of course
9:36 I love how he is impressed by his own wit
I think that was Hugh saying "damn those line came out good"
Haha, I noticed that too! It must've been very cool.
Snard Alexander Truth be told, it did!
Why do I feel like he either came up with the line or it honestly made him lol
I was pleasantly surprised with how nice House was to the first patient! Almost didn't expect that from him, haha
He loves rebels. The lady saying that she hates being told what to do is something House can relate to since he was in the exact same situation in that moment.
This... RAY of sunshine is Dr. Lisa Cuddy...
Doctor Cuddy runs this whole hospital, which means that she's much too busy to handle you.
XD
2:50 House has a genuine moment of real empathy here for someone who likely is capable of doing their job well and being mismanaged.

0:13 Yeah, that cut him. But the sarcastic bastard in him had to recognize it was a great burn.
Love the little touch at 9:27 of House forcing the other doctor to go around him
Ended up that House is the most caring person in the series.
You're getting the most outa your health insurance "I just don't like being told what to do" I'll get you in for a full body scan. "Thanx"
2:30 I like how house empathises with not liking being told what to do.
Dr. House might not be the nicest doctor, but he's the most real.
Legend has it that he still waits for someone to help him with the MP3
House could empathize with Jodie's honesty, because what she said resonated with him deeply. She was quite shy, mild mannered because I suppose that she must have been a free spirited youth, but her pain and financial instability took a toll on her and she forcefully had to submit to it. Perhaps she was not allowed to follow her true vocation in life... Or at least a tragedy or a divorce could have led to that specific impediment.
"I don't like being told what to do." Well, that could have many connotations.
One of my absolute favorite Doctor-Patient interactions on the show.
Excellent performance from Hugh Laurie. It left much to collective interpretation and that's a good thing, as both individuals do not like to be told what to do!
"I don't like being told what to do.", that line pretty much nailed House to empathize with her.
You do realise that this is not real hey?
Most people get their dreams crushed by some aspect of reality lol. It warrants about as much sympathy as the flu.

Interesting.. I've seen this episode.. Most explosive scene if you could remember.. 7:01 camera panned out.. Chase watching and studying House through the looking glass... Observing House doing what he does best. It foreshadows the very last episode..

In that first clip when he says "so, who wants me." I would of said yes me so quick
"I'm gonna wait."
the only way to beat the final boss as the level collapses around you
It’s always funny when they include the video games and House says a Level of somekind even when it’s not a level by level game nor do the sounds of the game match the specific game half the time. 😂
I love how this shows house's thought process as well and him working on the problem.
“This is Vicodin. It’s mine, you can’t have any!” 😂😂😂😂
The fake sounds for Metroid is bad enough, but saying you're on level four? Ugh.
Metroid on that gameboy still was flashback lol
He was being sarcastic. Remember, the target audience for this show were for people who played video games in the 70s and early 80s where almost everything was nothing but level -X.
Not only that, but it played a death noise for literally progressing the game.
What level was that then?
@@Chris_Cross No "levels" in that game. You can go back and backtrack or revisit areas, it's kind of open.

Also House: Acts like he just died, while the game plays a "you clearly died" sound effect.
