This was the one episode where we truly understood Cuddy's and what she goes through
She's the GOAT.
Its super hard working there, economics dont care if you save lives, or pave roads, all the business see, is columns and margins. I wish i had a boss like that !
@@hsandev8972 Agreed, reality doesnt just barge like some epic heroic movie plot. It is purely cold for people struggling and yes they simply dont have cards or leverage to get better terms. For that I liked very much the lines from characters here. I'd rather business people negotiating on middle grounds in the first place than blindly giving out donations afterwards when the damage is already done(and they did it to avoid tax).
The great part of the ep is that she gets to be on both begging/warm side and the begged/cold side. So the point can be this is nobody's fault, or the finance/insurance system is just making us less human, just like media system is holding the power to tell the truth but they are never honest.
And she has to deal with House's nonsense to top it all off.
Hard job.
The board didn't just think she walked on water, she turned an entire Olympic pool to wine and freaking breakdanced on it.
When we watch House and think "jesus, how is she still in charge after this?" that is why
Lol that gave me a good laugh
Lol
Slick 😁😁😁😁
cringe
and here I thought she just hangs out in her office waiting for house to do something stupid.
dwll
Sometimes that's the case
well, that's not a lot of wait
That's why I love episodes like this that focus on "minor" characters. It's just funny to think of a show like Doctor Who where aliens are taking over London but instead we just see a frantic blonde lady in a too-big white overcoat pulling a delighted yet harried Pakistani-British woman behind her as we go about picking up the Times and some fruit on the way home.
I mean, that's 90% of her job.
The American health care system should be it's own horror genre
I was super confused why someone wouldn't want to have their thumb reattached, i had completely forgotten that American healthcare system is all about profit.
It doesn't have to be a horror genre, because "horror genre" assumes fiction.
@@CompagnonDeMisere25 theres no price ceiling for medical supplies in the usa. Plus there is a price floor mandated by the insurance companies and the government. As well as artificial price floors set by the owners of drugs and their rights to said drugs. Because of this hospitals literally cant even turn profit and are forced to do deals with insurance agencies.
@@CompagnonDeMisere25 he's like "yea I'd rather collect disability rather than sell my house rn I'ma keep it a stack"

I loved the fact that every once and again you'd see her walk by House's crew doing something that has better place in a circus, and then you realize "Oh... so that's what this logical, professional and intense department looks with the eyes of the "uninitiated"".
But we are initiated, aren’t we, House?

Hadn’t thought about that
Not only that it also shows how much house cares for her, in his own weird way watches over her and how much they are part of her life

Cuddy was one of the best female characters in House and one of my favorites. I missed her after she was no longer on the show. And she was the one person who could handle House...until he drove his car into her home. She was pretty ballsy.
She wanted a 12% raise! In real life 12% don’t happen, 3-4% at best! CUDDY YOU ARE FIRED!
She wanted more money and she got eliminated
yeah the writers really jumped the shark after season 5
Cuddy was probably the Best Woman ever put to the Small Screen.
She was the Right kind of Woman in business. She was Assertive, but not bullish, and not *hypermasculine*
she's a jewess...
I know this is Cuddy's ep and she's obviously amazing, but I really appreciate that insurance guy, Eli's performance here. A charming antagonist, not too sinister.
I believe that guy is the actor who played Jonathan Turner in Boy meets World.
That's because he's not a villian, he's just a guy doing his job.
@@Folsomdsf2 he functions as an antagonist since he is the face of what cuddy is fighting
@@Folsomdsf2 yeah. thats how they get you to shoot people. its literally the same sentence. you do the bidding of the powerful...dont get surprised if people are pissed at you.

Big Yes, sure but did she lose cred because the salesman was still there to hear it? A sign she had expected to lose? Why no offer of 10 or 11? Cuddy was right about the thumb especially because the guy would only have to pay $16000. The lawyer was an ambulance chaser
@@budbuddybuddest Because they already agreed. You can’t take it back because they’re happy with the result.
@@budbuddybuddest A jury might well have given the man whose thumb was saved nothing. His was a very unappealing cause of action. I would have taken Cuddy's offer and worked out a payment plan.
Cuddy talking about the insurance company's private jet and the lawyer talking about BMWs and Porsches in the hospital parking lot which apparently belong to the doctors is intelligent script writing. It's as if to insinuate that The larger fish consumes the smaller one in a world of predator and prey.

I just realized in the CEO scene Cuddy took a page straight out of House’s book by finding out where he was having lunch and crashing it.
Dude Cuddy is the greatest, she’s just like “Nah homie I want 12” even after they offered double.
I think the CEO screwed up by offering her 8%. That showed Cuddy that her leverage did have some sway over them, and while it was risky to hold out for 12%, she took the gamble and won.
@@wusscake if they didn't offer anything, the contract would most likely be terminated with Cuddy getting fired lol
I don't think she had a choice. Like Malcolm X said, you don't offer relief to a man who's been stabbed with a 9 inch blade by pulling out 6 inches.
This was one of my favorite episode. It shows how much Dr. Cuddy cares for the hospital and how crazy her life is trying to run it. Especially since House always have crazy plans.
Not ''especially'', house is just one of her problems, in fact in this episode he was the less of her problems (if any at all).
Imagine if one day she was like "wow, things have been surprisingly calm these last four days" and then immediately walked into House shooting a gun at a corpse in the MRI.

Obviously, what Cuddy _meant_ to say was, "Do you know how many years it takes to train someone in microsurgery...if they're *not* Chase?" 😁
Wait, hadn't he already specialized in that during his first stint in House's team?
@@Aivottaja No, initially Chase was an intensivist, i.e. his expertise was in intensive and critical care. That's why he was so often the one doing the "hands-on" procedures (including some surgeries) and handling the emergency cases.
@@wobby1268 isn’t microsurgery training a part of that.

One of the best episodes. It was so much fun observing House’s antics from Cuddy’s limited perspective and just imagining the episode that’s happening congruent to this one.
Chad Dean of Medicine vs Virgin Insurance Bastards

I love how that insurance guy is so brutally realistic but he's obviously rooting for Cuddy anyway. The most cynical people secretly want to be proven wrong, it's just that the world disappoints them most of the time.
Right? I swear he was happy for Cuddy and the hospital in the end)
8:25 The fact that there are never jumpshots like this anywhere else in the series perfectly shows just how much emotion Cuddy felt in that singular moment.

I admit Lisa Cuddy would have made a good series, but the problem I see with it, Cuddy is too serious. After that stunt House pulled that involved him driving his car through her dining room, there is a 0% chance she would have tried dealing with another House. A day in the life of the Dean of Medicine was probably a lot like a day in the life of Alison Cameron in an ER somewhere in Chicago. Mundane, boring, and not all that entertaining.
@@peachydarl They absolutely were. And many of them *still* are. 😉
This episode shows us how vital the House's department is for that small hospital. It's no wonder he can do anything he wants.
he is the heart
Season 6 was so experimental, this was one of the best ones, also I wish foreman just updating us on this "week case" should have been a recurring gag on later episodes.
Love how this episode debunks the year/season long 'myth' that existed during the running of the show that Cuddys only job was House. He literally is a tiny portion of her day.Insane portion but still tiny and her day is HECTIC.Never fails to give me anxiety during a rewatch.
More importantly, in my opinion, he's an enjoyable part of her day. No really, compared to those lawyers, the ex-patient who couldn't pay her or that CEO, dealing with House's antics seems like a welcome distraction. It really puts their whole relationship into perspective if we see House as actually being the least stressful part of her day, it's no wonder she was always willing to cut him some slack even if we disregard any potential romantic feelings.
Her smile is radiant.
I love how the reference house’s quote about people just getting what they get and it’s not about what they deserve 👌🏼after 5:31
Nice to see Jonathan Turner doing something other than school teaching after that motorcycle accident

I absolutely love this episode! Perfectly played, I felt the increasingly awful pressure Cuddy was under every step of the way. Then when she won, I had tears of joy and relief. Fantastic that she cheered at the win so openly, shared by all! And then tearing up the check of Mr. Acevedo, the icing on the cake, a win for all!

If there are Lisa Cuddys out there in this world, they're superstars. Plus, this Cuddy has to deal with House.
An attorney for a patient would never speak directly with the dean of medicine, or rather, the dean of medicine would never allow herself to speak with the attorney
If you are on the lawyer's side, remember, they get paid to get cases to court. They will use language around their client to convince the client to proceed.
I loved this episode. Made me cry.
Cuddy was a great doctor. Not so great disciplinarian. But she's SO much more than we see. She's the mama bear watching over a top notch bastion of modern medicine. She's a brilliant, passionate, emotionally stable genius in the trenches AND the boardroom every day.

Such a great episode and a solid performance from Lisa Edelstein.
But I feel like one of the darker and more subconscious meanings behind the episode, like a few other House episodes, is the fucked up financial and insurance systems of the American healthcare.

Seeing a country as rich and as advanced as the US arguing about throwing a thump or not because of money is just weird, like really weird and the fact that many americans don't see the problem in that is even weirder.
i come from a country with free healthcare for anyone making under 50k$~, while its abit insane they are worried about costs you have to realize that alot of that money doesnt just go to the hospital or doctor, they have alot of other expenses. hopefully one day america will have freehealth care instead of buying more tanks, but their clearly isnt enough of a push for it since they are so used to it.
@@bigboi5134 The Competitive Healthcare system in the US leads to a much larger amount of innovations (proportionally) other countries, while also allowing Private Citizens to get the Care they Want & Need without having to worry about getting put on a years long waiting list (Except for Donor Organs, but we've also been working on that)
Yes, it sucks that some people can't afford their medical care, but it's not this 'predatory racket' that other countries make it out to be. Hospitals have to Purchase Medical Supplies, Pay property taxes (as well as many other forms of Taxation, Pay their Staff, and Pay for Doctors, who in turn have to pay for the Specialized Education they receive (Unless they got a Full Ride Scholarship, which is only awarded for Excellence)
Now, you might say "Why Doesn't the Government just foot the bill?" Well, quite simply, because it would be unfair *and* Unconstitutional (Thank God). The Majority of Americans do not require frequent visits to a Medical Doctor, but would be required to pay Massively increased taxes to do so. To Support a Fully Socialized healthcare system, Americans would be looking at a 10-20% Tax increase Across the Board (That's for all Americans) While The Government would impose 'Quotas' for the amount of a certain procedure can be performed per year/Quarter, and Doctors/Hospital Staff would be looking at Pay Cuts, because the only people who get paid well on Government Paychecks are bureaucrats.
(My Evidence for this being the UK/EU Healthcare systems) Yes, you can get basic care, such as PCP (Primary Care Physician) and Basic Pharma, you're looking at Waiting lists for most procedures more specialized than setting a bone. Not to mention the vastly different *Scales* of these Healthcare systems.
You might also go with the "Build Less Tanks, America" Sadly, that's not how it works Either. NATO Members are supposed to supply 2% of their Annual GDP to the Defense Fund, the overwhelming majority of Members pay less than 1.5%. "Why do we Need NATO?" Look at Ukraine and Taiwan. Look at China, who is threatening all of her neighbors, *and* the US, or Russia, who threatened nuclear action on Europe if they sent Forces to aid Ukraine. NATO is the only thing that has kept another World War from being Sparked, and America contributes almost 4% of their Yearly GDP, just to make up for the deficit of the Non-Compliant nations.
So, in conclusion, American citizens could not afford to pay for Socialized healthcare, as it would only be paid for by raising taxes, and making Americans Poorer, while doing nothing to deal with the base problem.
Free healthcare has it's issues as well, like insanely high taxes. And even free healthcare sometimes isn't free. Like in Germany for example, you often have to buy certain medicine for your own money, but then why the f can't I pay for it with my insurance card , that has like 10k on it?
@@raimondsstokmanis1892 I live in germany and can confirm, almost half my salary is paid to taxes, but all serious conditions are covered by the insurance

Always a good example of why privatized Healthcare is one of the many failures of the US and any free market.
Imagine if its the government, it would be much worst, at least the hospital has options with other private insurance, when the government handles the health care system everything goes haywire, why? Because its subsidized and third payer wont disclose the prices of their services, which means it will raise the prices of private insurance, simple economics my friend, this is why Canada’s health care sucks, you need to wait 1 week for an appointment
@@billie0429 As a European i am sorry but you are still saying a large amount of bs
@@TheSamgo I just gave you an example of why it is going to get worst, if universal health care works then why no one goes to Canada to have a major operation? Do you even understand that no one wants universal health care because it is unconstitutional? If you want to be free you need to be responsible for everything in your life, if you want universal health care then move to Canada
It being private or not doesn’t matter much when the real reason things are bad is because there aren’t enough doctors, specifically general practitioners. Low supply of doctors with high demand for medical care, as America has, leads to high prices.
