      You should make your own activator mate. It's just xylene and thinner. 70/30 mix. Question :....When dipping a "taped off project" ...for example taping of a gas tank or fenders ect . for flames , and only wanting the pattern to appear in the flame , Do you have to score around the masking tape before removing to prevent damage to the area intended for the pattern ?

    • @AllThingsFunHydrographics
      @AllThingsFunHydrographics  Před 3 lety

      Price depends on what film you buy and where you buy it from. I always order a minimum of 3 meters for all projects so I know I have enough for re-dos if needed. 90-92 degrees at the surface of the water... we just did a video on water temps if you want to check it out.

    I’m having issues where my film is wrinkling, not when placed or activated but around the item I am dipping during the dip, then drying with raised creases or ripples on the item. Any idea what is causing this or how to fix it?

    • @AllThingsFunHydrographics
      @AllThingsFunHydrographics  Před 3 lety +1

      If the film in wrinkling as your dipping then you either have bad film or you are not activated enough. Film can go bad if it is not stored properly. It needs 40-50% humidity and 70 degrees.

    Today was my first attempt at this art. I dipped a wooden skate board blank. It came out pretty good. A few small imperfections but overall I was tickled to death. I rinsed it off for what seemed like forever then pat it dry. About an hour after that, I applied Rusto Oleum Acrylic Enamel clear over it. About 30 mins later the entire board was a mess. The Clear cost reacted with something and caused the print to crack and blister up. Any Suggestions?

      I don't think its difficult at all. I bought some film and activator from Amazon then went to 99 cent store and bought a laundry basket with trash bag liner. first attempt was ok with a few imperfections, second temp was almost perfect, third attempt was great with only a trained eye able to see imperfections. I did one job which allowed me to cover initial costs to setup. I dont know if my experience in paint and body made it easier but it was a simple process. I am currently about to build a larger tank and start using wonder paint as base and start a new business dipping to cover any slow times my other businesses may come upon which is rare but always nice to be diversified.
