Technically, what that cop did was rather manslaughter, unintentional killing and so on (depending on the laws and customs of the particular countries and legal definitions therefore). But over the world, murder in vast majority of cases requires intent to kill, or at least intent to commit a grave harm to the body. Reckless shooting burst in the air, that ricochets and unfortunately kills someone is not considered so.
Well, should they sent him to prison for that, they would have saved his life ... But because the system was crooked, they sealed his fate by not serving the justice.

Love that it was Decker who got to avenge Isabel 2 by taking out the man who killed his daughter, while Tristan took out the other scumbag.
One thing I just noticed that I hadn’t before: Decker and Tristan are so much alike. Decker is an outlaw, a rebel, who chooses to settle down with an indigenous woman, living happy in the outskirts of society. Tristan is a wild man, who has issues with authority, and also chooses to live outside of society. No wonder Isabel falls for him.

For reasons I can't fully put into words, I've always found the Decker character especially compelling. Maybe it's because he's basically a good person who somehow ran afoul of the law. The mystery behind his back story adds to it. And, of course, the casting and acting are superb. A great example of a minor character played to the hilt by the actor.

Wow, you were not wrong when you said he lived an extraordinary life. So much material he had published, ranging from novels, poetry, screenplays and essayist. He surely does definitely deserve the acclaim and respect for all his endeavors literary and likewise.
Being British I am abit surprised at myself for not discovering him before. He definitely sounds like one of America's modern great authors.
For some bizarre reason which I cannot explain, in my mind I put him on par with Jack London who I am definitely familiar with and have naturally read most of his works. He too had an interesting and hard life but was tragically cut short. One of America's finest, maybe I'm overreaching when saying that Jim Harrison recalls to my mind Jack London because as of yet I haven't read any of his novels which will be addressed soon.
Maybe it's because of the story and backdrop to The Legends of the Fall that suggests it to me.
I hope I haven't inadvertently given offence to anyone who passionately has followed Jim Harrison or J London alike.

And I'm not putting myself above anything here... there's crap I love that my wife finds stupidly juvenile. But then we watched 'Fury' together. @Ban this youtube Pitt tends to go for 'Heathcliffe' type roles where he's always melodramatic and dashingly moody. I thought the trope was dumb in high school while being forced to read Charlotte Bronte and Jane Austen, and my opinion hasn't changed much. And that was Pitt all day long in LOTF and Troy. I've just never been a fan of the whole faux-heartthrob routine. It comes across as fake, trite, and trivial.
In 'Fury' he portrayed a very credible NCO that was just trying to get him and his crew home. It was very against type for him, much the same as Tom Hanks' Capt. Miller in 'Saving Pvt. Ryan'.

@Ban this youtube Well, if you're thinking about becoming a reenactor, let me offer you a couple-three bits of advice:
1] Find a good unit to reenact with. Shop around. There's more than one unit out there interested in what you're interested in.
As an aside, let me also say that if you want to portray a German, that's fine. But for fuck's sake, DON'T portray the SS. That's just a personal opinion, but I'm a lifelong military historian. It might be just my opinion, but it's an **informed** opinion. And I'm confident enough in that opinion that I'll be happy to argue facts of the case any time, any where, with any one.
2] Buy absolutely nothing more than what you need to 'get along' until you know what your unit is wearing /using. A vanilla, generic private's uniform of the military you're interested in will do you just fine.
3] Last thing: read everything about the period and military you're interested in, **especially** the stuff that's highly critical of them. When you dress out, people expect you to know more than they do, so take the time to learn it.
And let me know if you want to be a Civil War reenactor. I can offer some specific advice on that.

As time goes by, the girl they won over wishes she'd made a different choice, perhaps the guy she passed on. Its a small consolation when you find out 20-30 years later that she wishes it was you. This doesn't happen 100% of the time but it does often enough to where its likely, for both sexes.

@@if6was929 Science proves you correct--when we say "nice guys finish last", what generally happens is a younger lass sows her wild seeds and once she's looking for a husband and contributor to her child, if she has matured by that time, she wants the nice, nuturing male. Frankly, if she's maintained her physical appearance, she'll obtain him, too. I know its crass to say that, but we are animals designed not to dilute the gene pool.
Of course, this means just nothing when we're 18 yrs old--"oh, wait a bunch of summers, and then you'll land one woman" :) we want what we want right then--i had my own "pad", no roommates, and I enjoyed a simple life but it would have been nice to share it. Most teens were looking for the next party while I was out at social events mentioned in the local papers, so I certainly wasn't what most women were looking for at that time (hard to get drunk at a public event at that age). Of course, considering the divorce rate is nearly 50%, most people fall out of love (lust?) with their partner no matter what led to their choice. "Seven year itch" and all that.
In my particular case, that coworker did marry the BMOC after he cheated on her during their time in college together, and had kids, and they may still be married--but she sure doesn't look like she used to :) I was working my way thru college in a small town, and ran into the usual small minds. As for the BMOC cashing in on their reputation, that's what its for, and it does them well enough--that's the age they might be looking to marry or get their dream job and work their way up the corporate ladder. Its up to them after getting that foot in the door to not be another "peaked in school" candle that burns twice as bright and fades twice as fast.

That was rather hypocritical of Alfred, I think. At least he redeemed himself in the end.
