Straight Outta Guantanamo. New Bike Reveal! Something that's not CRAP.

  • Most of the time, we have useless crap on the channel but for once I got something decent. Time Scylon is my new bike frame. I didn't buy it for the aesthetics, I bought it for the engineering, adherence and the fundamental fact that the defect rate on Time frames has consistently been very low.
    This frame was supplied by Time directly, their dealer network is somewhat haphazard. If you want one you can email them at info@timebicycles.com www.timebicycles.com
    A video coming on the build up will probably come shortly!

    Kevlar in the the steer tube layup is a awesome thing to finally see. I have been saying for years that it should be mandated that strands of Kevlar be used throughout bicycle frames. In a failure situation of the frame it would at the very least keep things from complete failure allowing a greater chance of a rider maintaining control and avoiding serious injuries'.

    • @johnandrews3568
      @johnandrews3568 Před 2 lety +3

      totally agree... I had kevlar reinforced carbon fibre XC ski polls about 25 years ago. It's just the right thing to do.

    • @Bendersnatchling
      @Bendersnatchling Před 2 lety +3

      Kevlar seriously raises the first though.
      It blunts knives, scissors etc. almost instantly. So the production of pre-cut kevlar is time and money consuming.
      Considering the markup on high-end bikes this would be bad for us customers.
      Already high-end bike frames are initially sold for over 4.000€ (Cervelo S5, Canyon Aeroad SLR, Specialized Venge, Scott Foil etc.)
      I think the market for even more expensive frames is extremely limited. And limited sales increase the price even more...

      At the very least when a rider drives into the back of a truck all the parts will be connected in one form or another for easy clean up. All joking aside , we really don’t know the life cycle of carbon frames. There are a great deal of these bikes getting past down from racer to racer to newbies. It would be nice to have a bicycle manufacturer standard. It may only take a few long strands like race cars have tethers on open wheels and suspension components, woven into the all ready under weight frames. Kevlar is a DuPont patent but there is other things similar out there. Kevlar is only cut with special shears and is most commonly known use in bulletproof vests.

    one thing about seeing just clearcoated carbon is they have the balls to straight up show you "this is how our carbon quality is like, look over and try to find any imperfections". granted that's only the aesthetic layer, but I figure many brands can't even make that look good without paint.

    Interesting that Time is using the weave and epoxy injection technology when 3T claims they had to invent it with bespoke equipment designed and built in house. I first saw this used in the 90s by John Britten for the front suspension of his V1000 racing motorcycle. Britten was a genius, but no Luke Walker.

      3T says that because probably they were not able to buy the tools and equipment that other manufacturers (i.e., Time) use. Most of the time, these manufacturing processes are very complex and optimized, so you don't really want to sell your equipment because that is part of the industrial secret you are trying to protect.

    Yowzers that's nice Hambini!
    Seeing the weave is exactly what you want from carbon. When I got my first carbon bike I was quite Disappointed that the weave wasn't visible. Especially coming from motorcycles where carbon parts have the weave shown.
    Good to see they've gone back to a conventional style seatpost too. Put me off getting a 2nd hand one when I bought mine (2nd hand time or brand new Ultimate CF SLX) as it might not have fit me and couldn't realistically be adjusted.
    GIS A GO MR! 😉
