255 days sober at 32 years old after never going more than a month without drinking since 18. Feeling great and going for the full 365, felt like pumping the brakes on drinking was a good idea, but think I could maybe live without it the rest of my life, drinking is expensive too.

I gave up drinking to get drunk years ago. However, I do drink to taste and accentuate flavors.
When I went keto almost 6yrs ago, i gave up beer permanently and wine for the first 3-4 month's of strict keto. What I found out was both wine and spirits tasted completely different. I could taste what the experts were tasting and it made drinking wine and whiskey fun.
However, I have rules about when I drink. Main rule is I dont drink during the week when I train. When I do drink on the weekends, I keep it in extreme moderation.
And before anybody jumps down throat, I have a serious wine/whiskey cellar and host tasting parties.

im 35 days away from my 1 year sober. I lost 62 lbs, have abs now, and look crazy shredded. Of course as every addict knows, you have to find something else to occupy your time with. So i hit the gym and picked up a few hobbies that cause me to "grind" to get better. And that really rings my bell, if you will. Ive always been a chubby guy too, so seeing this progression in my body and in my other hobbies is insane... In my 20s, my testosterone would be consistently around 350-450 ngl, i had no drive, and i was just tired all the time from being hungover 5 days out of the week. Now im hitting anywhere from 750-850ngl on the testostrone scale, i eat clean, and have tons of energy. I wont ever drink alcohol again. I will say though, im california sober. Ive always smoked cannabis, and its always added to my life. On the flip side, alcohol has always ruined my time/life/friendships/etc.
If youre reading this, take the challenge. You will impress yourself. Youre worth the commitment and effort it takes to see the change. Im telling you this as a former acholic fat slob who had a horrible attitude and outlook on life.

I stopped consuming alcohol in 2021. I also did it for the health. It did help. But, altering from SAD to gluten free then grain free then dairy free then carnivore now Lion Diet has solved my chronic fatigue. It also put my hashimotos into remission. I now have my energy level everyday at the same level as when I was in high school back in the early 2000’s. I feel lucky and blessed to get another chance at this life.
Thanks for all you do and keep up the great work.

Alcohol was the first thing I gave up when trying to start losing weight. The first week was a bit rough, made me realize how much I had actually been drinking.
The reduced caloric intake alone has helped tremendously, but I've also picked up new hobbies that keep me entertained at night that don't involve sitting in front of a screen and consuming calories lol.

I’m always happy for anyone that does anything that improves their health. If that means not drinking, then good for you.
I’m 60 soon to be 61. I work out five days a week anywhere from 45 mins to an hour. I’m 5’8” and 175 lbs. My blood works always shows great numbers in HDL,LDL, over all cholesterol and in triglycerides along with liver enzymes. I’d say I’m in above average shape for my age.
I also brew and drink beer. I love the hobby. On average I may drink about six beers a week. I don’t ever seeing that stopping until my doctor says I should quit.
    Just saying that’s all.

He decided to celebrate. He hitched a ride to a bar a couple of miles away. Got good and drunk. Some guys he met gave him a ride back. On the way he got sick, so they stopped on the shoulder of the interstate. He got out and walked down into the grass and puked. When he turned and walked back toward the car, he went past it and walked into a traffic lane right in front of a big truck. Needless to say, he never became a truck driver.

I definitely support people who decide to limit or eliminate alcohol intake, but at the same time, I reject this health model that treats life like some kind of middle class morality play. We have spent decades talking about smoking and drinking, when it was the food, water, and medicine that was killing us the whole time. Life is a morality play, but it's a lot different, a lot bigger, than the model admits.

I heard that unlike sugar, affinity to alcohol is a learned behavior. I never developed such an affinity, and I am 36 at the moment. Alcohol would always make my esophagus and stomach feel dry and cramped, while non-alcoholic drinks lubricated me. I developed some appreciation for wine, but it is not something in which I would show an initiative were I alone or in company. If there is some wine at a gathering, I might take a sip or two to learn its taste. Other than that, I have neither attraction nor aversion towards the substance.
So I cannot understand the thrill that people feel from alcohol consumption. I just accept that they do.

During the pandemic, my level was 795 after drinking 10-15 drinks daily for 4 months straight and was 37 yrs old. From what I understand, ~2 standard units of alcohol actually boost test levels but anything beyond that causes test levels to drop.

I'm 42 and mine is in the 200's. Been drinking up to 24 beers a day for 20 years. Recently quit and hopeful mine will increase. Life sucks with test this low.

@@driftingdynamicyou’re in for some very extreme improvements. Keep it up. I went from 300 to 700+ with only quitting. 130%+ increase off just that

I've cut it down dramatically to just celebrations and may even cut that out. Since the start of the year, I have had less than 10 drinks with the longest period alchol free for 2 months....in that 2 months, I lost 10 lbs and slept way better.

For anyone with health issues, a😅ctual alcoholics, or anyone who over does it, quitting makes sense. an occasional quality beer or wine to accompany a quality meal is one of life's small pleasures. You can say the same thing for marijuana.. some folks benefit medically but just getting high and doing it all the time is going to have negative impact on brain and body. I was that person but quit at age 30 and don't miss it.

Alcohol free? does that means 100% no alcohol ever?
I drink 1/2 drink maybe 3 times a week period, never ever more and has never interfered with anything I do. I workout (serious) 4-5 days a week and pretty much disagree with the idea that 100% is needed... and I am 100% caffeine free.
But I do have a problem.... graving simple carbs!

I wish giving up alcohol enabled me to sleep better, but it hasn’t 😕.. For my health I gave up alcohol, sugar, all grains, dairy, soy and corn, but sadly I still wake up every 2-3 hours😳… however, I have improved my health in many other areas☺️

Ray peat perspective would say you look a bit older than you are due to stress on the body. Guessing you fast a lot/avoid sugar/train to complete exhaustion just looking at you. Those things will stress the body
