As an italian I can tell you, that in my country we appreciate vocals more than anything else, and I'm pretty sure french people do the same. For once real music won over autotune (sorry Belgium).

My mum hate eurovision, but when Latvia came on she said 'I like this. This is good' and then they qualified IO;ANFSL;ALKAFALALAOL
I feel like it's a song that people's mothers like! My friend's mum loves it, my dad likes it, etc. I also love it personally. I think it's one that older people like more and maybe that's what pushed it through
This semi-final had so many bops and so much crazy stuff happening on the stage. Latvia didn't bring any gimmicks or over the top staging they kept it authentic, simple, and powerful. I couldn't be happier for Dons and Latvia.
I'm sooo happy for Dons! He has been such a lovely charming presence on social media and seemingly behind the scenes at Eurovision. And of course his voice is great and you could see his emotions on his face when he performed. Really pleased for Latvia!

He had maybe pretty voice but the song is for exemple much more boring than Belgium or Czechia

I was not because his vocals were weak and depended mainly on the backing vocals again. He only got better at the end and thats it.

Latvia is now the second biggest shock qualifier in history with 15% only 2% more than lithuania 2011 that has a 13% chance to get rhgouhg accodring to the odds . Well done latvia!!

As a dutch who is going to the live grand final... Im heartbroken. Imo Belgium was way better than Latvia...

This Eurovision has a diversity of fan favorites as I could see by the comments on CZcams videos, and that's what I love about Eurovision.
I'm so heartbroken over Denmark and Belgium, but I'm so happy for Latvia.
So happy that Latvia and Georgia broke their NQ streaks. But Latvia's Q was one of the most shocking Q ever. 😄😄😄. Ok, I had a feeling that Austria or Belgium could flop, but I thought that in this case Czechia or San Marino could Q. Latvia was last from I expected to Q.😄😄
Guessing 8/9 is a very good prediction!!! Honestly nobody expected Latvia, but they definitely deserve it!
I think Latvia had better vocals than many other contestants...there is a big discrepancy in terms of vocals when it come to videos vs. live performances...just a handful of singers has shown consistency in their vocals
France, Latvia, Armenia, Italy, Malta, and Israel were the only ones that could sing - roughly in that order of competence. Everyone else consistently missed notes or sang too quietly/timidly. Very disappointing. Many songs whose studio versions I liked were borderline unlistenable live.
Agreed! I was so surprised by how off the vocals sounded in some songs.

SF2 was so much better than SF1 and I'm more than happy for Dons, for whom I voted also.
2015 was the last time all 3 Baltic states were in the final together!
As a Belgian I'm heartbroken for Mustii. I'm also so sorry for you, losing your top song before the final ! I can't possibly grasp how Latvia got the 10th most votes in that semi-final, utterly mindboggling ! 8/10, I lost San Marino and obviously Belgium. I still don't know how the Walloon delegation managed to make all the wrong choices for the staging.... That puts such a mood debuff on my satrurday :(
i agree with you. RTBF made the worst choice ever and is full responsible for his flop. We all knew that Musti was to weak for this kind of concert. Better a national final such as in Flanders
I'm still crying for Belgium as a Greek 😭😭😭 Mustii was my favourite! 😭😭😭 💔At least I follow him as an artist now, so I won't loose touch with his great artistry! Belgians are giving us great art! Stromae, Angèle, Loïc Nottet, now Mustii 🖤
Echt balen, super bummed as well. Mustii did struggle before but I thought his vocal was alright tonight. Staging was weak indeed,..hope that the VRT sends a good candidate next year!

I’m shocked that Latvia went through as I wasn’t expecting them to qualify, gutted for Belgium but I feared they would be a shock NQ after hearing those vocals, happy that Norway qualified and I’m ecstatic for Georgia I just wish Denmark would have qualified tonight
I was concerned for Belgium after tonight too, it just didn't land right although the song is great. Thought Czechia had a chance, I was so shocked when Latvia qualified too. So happy Armenia and Greece through, hopefully Marina can recover to deliver even better performance on Saturday.

My Belgium’s Mustii didn’t make it 😢 he’s been nervous and struggling for weeks, ever since the tough pre show parties. Ironically I voted for Latvia and Armenia, I genuinely liked them, and they both went through.
2015 was the last time all three Baltics were in the final!!! I'm so happy!!!
My joy for Latvia's qualification is intense, but not as intense as my sadness for Belgium's NQ. I'm shocked because I voted for Dons thinking Mustii was a clear favorite and didn't need my votes. 😥
Belgium really shows that a song dependent on good vocals cant have a performer with a vocal tone that destroys the magic that is needed for a song like this to work

Is this the first year where the actual BEST SONG didn't make it? Unbelievable. I know the staging and vocals were not on point but still... Devastating for Mustii, I feel for him, he's talented. When they first announced Latvia and Austria, I knew it was over...

So sad about Mustii, but he was too fast in the beginning, slightly off pitch, drowned out by the backing track… will always love the studio version!

I got 9/10! I went for Belgium and it was Latvia! So pleased for Latvia and Georgia thou after all these years! So sad for Malta! Can’t believe that!

Last year, my favorite (Latvia) didn't qualify to the final. This year it is my second favorite (Belgium) that failed to qualify.
Next year you should start worrying about who ends up in your third place 😅😭

I am very disappointed that Mustii from Belgium did not qualify with the song "Before the Party's Over", because he participated in all the ESC pre-parties and his song was one of the most catchy. Some other songs, however, were chosen by subverting any predictions of the betting agencies. Congratulations to all !
Still stunned that Denmark did not qualify! I thought her performance was phenomenal. I did think Belgium would qualify too but after watching his performance I had a feeling he wouldn't. Something just felt off during the first half of his performance.
My reaction was EXACTLY the same. After every country I went “ok they qualified” and then started talking about Latvia again
Beside the final on Saturday I am now very very interested to learn who were the two eleventh places and how large the gap to the tenth place had been…also I may have to re-assess my enthusiasm for removing the juries from the SF…😳😳😳
I put a bet on yesterday at 6/1 that Latvia would qualify. After hearing the live I didn't think it would. It's a very underrated song.

I knew Latvia will Q!!! On the night of the 1st semi, after all qualifiers were anounced one of the comentators instead of 'all 3 Balkan countries' said ' all 3 Baltic countries' go to the final. I knew its a sign and posibility that all 3 Baltic countries will go to the finals, the same as all 3 Balcan countries did!!!! Yeahhhh!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Honestly - I am so happy for Latvia and Georgia for qualifying after long droughts.
Belgium was my winner too, even with the lackluster performance I really though Mustii deserved to qualify. That one hurt, but at least Dons seems like a really sweet and sincere guy and Latvia definitely deserves a break from the NQs. Such a crazy year!

2015 is the last time we had all three Baltics. Almost ten years! Latvia is one of my favourites (I have it 4th) and I had resigned myself to losing it but I was so happy! Imagine if they'd left Latvia to be announced last, lmao

I literally squeeled after they said Latvia because I love this song, but I didn't expect people did too. Sooo sad about Belgium, but I agree, the live just wasn't it. Glad to see so many redemption arcs for usually non-qualifying countries. Btw, love the Jane Austen look 😍.

I liked Switzerland and Norway's performances, so happy for their qualification; biggest surprises for me were Belgium out, Georgia and Estonia in.
I have a feeling that you influencers sometimes get blind. You all form a unified opinion against some songs - like in Latvia's case. Then you can't understand that a great melody with impressive vocals and stage presence gets through. I was rooting for Dons from the start and I screamed when he qualified.♥♥♥
Latvia was an amazing performance, I am very happy that they passed! Clear vocals, straight forward without nonsense. First year that I agreed so much with the countries that passed to the finals. I was sad for Belgium, but it could have been a better performance indeed.
Deary me that was quite a night. Sad for both my countries, would have been nice to have just one. But oh well, the final lineup is bloody strong, so still gonna have a fantastic night.
- I nearly threw a fit when Latvia made it - who saw THAT coming?! As soon as that happened I knew it was over for the ol' Ġebla. Still, Latvia and Georgia both making it and breaking the longest running NQ streaks is really quite awesome, and I am happy for them both.

I had this exact same moment at the tenth qualifier slot, but I'll say I abandoned Belgium very quickly. Armenia was soooo fun and I loved the visuals and staging so much, it really just had to be them!

I mean, I think we all did, kinda! I was just surprised as you (and millions, I bet) to hear Latvia's name right away.
Belgium not qualifying was a shocker. But like you said, he didnt nailed it. I LOVE the Studio Version, one of my favorites this year, but it was so harsh live. Latvia was superb, he deserves it, but i could have spent my house on predicting, that he will not qualify. Beside that, im happy with the Result.

I did slightly better with this semi - eight out of ten, for a total of 15 out of 20.
I had Malta and Belgium through over Austria and Estonia. My wife and I said to each other during Belgium's performance that it wasn't all that great, and she really likes that song too. I really wanted San Marino to qualify, but who would they have knocked out?
Also, I think that Maria from Nebulossa has been improving her singing since the Spanish selection show - she was much better last night. Nice to see they've kept the butt cheeks for the grand final 🙂

So ofc the semifinal that houses 8 of my top 10 entries had to be cruel to balance it out.

It's interesting that foreigners make it seem like it's important for "Baltics" to be together. These three are just geopolitically grouped together but are pretty different from each other. For starters Lithuania and Latvia are Baltic speaking countries, while Estonia is Finnic like Finland. I'm more happy that Finland and Estonia are both in the final!
You are wrong. Latvian language has incorporated a huge amount of Livi language in it, the language from Finno-Ugric language group. And Latvia's history for nearly thousand years has been very similar to Estonia's. Lithuania is completely different cattle of fish, but, obviously, a very dear and loved one :)

I I think the problem with Belgium's song isn't the vocals.It's that it takes too long to get going. It needed the refrain repeated earlier on.

The situation has arisen from a series of bad decisions by ESC,
in handling a difficult dilemma, but really nothing new in that. Peace.
Marinas vocals weren't there tonight because she is sick with fever and pharyngitis for the last couple of days.
Due to this her vocals(sore and inflammated throat) and endurance took a toll.
So I'm happy she still managed to deliver and I hope she will be healthier for saturday so she can slay even more.
In my opinion Greece and Austria should not be classified....they did not do well at all

My winner ( Denmark ) also didn't qualify, but I stayed positive, my 2nd and 3rd this year are Slovenia and Georgia, so I'm really glad I got at least those 2 🥰
Very happy my top 3 Greece, Israel and Georgia qualified! Happy for Latvia and well deserved! Sad we lost Czechia cause the performance and staging were awesome.
We should had got Czechia through instead of Austria with the weak vocals, mainly posing around and Estonia with their jumping around (though they were rather fun though).
For me is Austria one of the best and I am from Czechia :-)
